Annual Pet Blessing Saturday, October 1, 2016 Baby Bottle Ministry The Baby Bottle Ministry kickoff is scheduled for the first weekend of October (Right-to-Life Month).

All bottles will be collected at the beginning of November.

Monies collected go to 5 agencies which provide support and education for many pregnant teens.

3 Annual Pet Blessing Saturday, October 1, 2016 Baby Bottle Ministry The Baby Bottle Ministry kickoff is scheduled for the first weekend of October (Right-to-Life Month). Parishioners are asked to participate by taking a bottle and filling it with your change for the month, add cash or write a check made payable to Holy Name Church. All bottles will be collected at the beginning of November. Use this month to talk to your families about the importance of life, how it should be valued at all stages and try to share the difficulties young, unwed mothers must endure. Monies collected go to 5 agencies which provide support and education for many pregnant teens. Also remember we are collecting SMALL, NEW stuffed animals for local Police and the Emergency Room as a comfort tool for young children undergoing serious trauma. Thank you always for your continued support. GRA STA DE 2015 Middle School Youth (Grades 6-8) from around the diocese will gather at the Annual Gra sta De! Diocesan Middle School Youth Ministry Day, and Holy Name is bringing a group. Gra sta De! (Gaelic for God s Grace ) will be held Sunday, October 16 th from 1 ~ 7 PM at Andrean High School, 5959 Broadway, in Merrillville. Featuring upbeat music, youth-friendly learning sessions, pizza, dancing, skits, and meeting other youth from across the diocese who LOVE CHRIST and aren t afraid to show it! Guest speakers are Jmmeel McGee and Andrew Collins. Learning Sessions: 8th Grade Confirmation: So What?, 7th Grade Rocked by God, 6th Grade - How Do You Connect? Her order established a hospice; centers for the blind, aged, and disabled; and a leper colony. In 1979 she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. She died in September 1997 and was beatified in October In December 2015, Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa, clearing the way for her to be canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta on September 4, Her Life In 1919, when Agnes was only 8 years old, her father suddenly fell ill and died. In the aftermath of her father's death, Agnes became extraordinarily close to her mother, a pious and compassionate woman who instilled in her daughter a deep commitment to charity. Agnes attended a convent-run primary school and then a state-run secondary school. The congregation made an annual pilgrimage to the Church of the Black Madonna in Letnice, and it was on one such trip at the age of 12 that she first felt a calling to a religious life. Six years later, in 1928, an 18-year-old Agnes Bojaxhiu decided to become a nun and set off for Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin. It was there that she took the name Sister Mary Teresa after Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. On May 24, 1937, she took her Final Profession of Vows to a life of poverty, chastity and obedience. On September 10, 1946, Mother Teresa experienced a second calling, the "call within a call" that would forever transform her life. She was riding in a train for a retreat when she said Christ spoke to her and told her to abandon teaching to work in the slums of Calcutta aiding the city's poorest and sickest people. After six months of basic medical training, she voyaged for the first time into Calcutta's slums with no more specific a goal than to aid "the unwanted, the unloved, the uncared for." Mother Teresa quickly translated this somewhat vague calling into concrete actions to help the city's poor. She began an open-air school and established a home for the dying destitute in a dilapidated building she convinced the city government to donate to her cause. In October 1950, she won canonical recognition for a new congregation, the Missionaries of Charity. In February 1965, Pope Paul VI bestowed the Decree of Praise upon the Missionaries of Charity, which prompted Mother Teresa to begin expanding internationally. By the time of her death in 1997, the Missionaries of Charity numbered more than 4,000 in addition to thousands more lay volunteers with 610 foundations in 123 countries around the world. Page 4

This would certainly include those who are physically, emotionally, or spiritually in need of healing as well as those who are on supportive medication or suffer from chronic health conditions and those 65 years of age or older. All those in need of healing are welcome to receive this sacrament of the sick. Vehicle donation is a simple and effective way to offer hope to those in need in our community by donating your car/boat/rv to the Society of St. Vincent depaul Conference at Holy Name Parish. If you have a neighbor or family member who is seriously ill, or grieving prayer shawls are available the first weekend of the month in the front of church, and during office hours in the Parish Office. If you would like to join the group, our next meeting will be on Monday, October 3 at 11 AM in the Conference Room. All are welcome. Monetary donations and all donations of yarn are always appreciated. Did you like the cotton dish cloths you bought, or received as gifts, from the Prayer Shawl Ministry last year? Bet by now they could use replacing. Well you re in luck! The Ladies of the Prayer Shawl Ministry have been busy making many dish cloths and something new scrubbies. Both items are on sale in the Parish Office 2 dish cloths for $5 and/or 3 scrubbies for $5. All proceeds are reinvested in yarn for shawls and baby baptism blankets. Come and check out our supply while we have a large array of colors available. Both dish cloths and scrubbies will be available in church on the weekend of December 3-4.
