C: And also with you. THE CONFESSION OF SINS P: We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy. C: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in 2

2 Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. P: God, our heavenly Father has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will. C: Amen. THE FIRST LESSON...Acts 16:6-10 The word of salvation spreads as God directs his missionaries to preach the gospel in Macedonia. 6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. Through your living and abiding Word, give us hearts to know him 3 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in 'all the earth!* You have set your glory above the 'heavens. Revelation 22:12-17,20 Although Jesus ascended, he does not leave us on our own. He continues to send the Spirit and to offer salvation full and free. We eagerly await his second and final coming when he will take us to himself in heaven. So we pray, Come, Lord Jesus. 12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. 14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. 16 "I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star." 17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" John 17:20-26 In his high priestly prayer, Jesus prays that his church might continue to know and believe his message of love and through that message enjoy unity and eternal life. 20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. 24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them." 5 6

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. BIBLE CLASS: The Sunday morning Bible class is looking at Song of Songs. It has been called one of the most challenging books in the Bible to study, being compared to a lock for which the key has been lost. But in a society where love and sexuality is treated in a coarse or careless way, this book offers a refreshing perspective for the Christian on what love should be, both between husband and wife and between Christ and his church. Sunday, May 12 The Golden Oldies SUNDAY ADULT BIBLE CLASS & G.R.A.C.E. PLACE LAST DAY: The last classes will be on this Sunday, May 12 th. CONFIRMATION EXAMINATION: Thursday, May 16 th, will be our Confirmation Examination service at 6:30 p.m. CONFIRMATION SUNDAY: The Confirmation Service will be next Sunday, May 19 th at 10:00 a.m. (Please note that this service will begin at 10:00 a.m. and not 10:30 a.m.) The other services will continue to be 8:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. as usual. SUNDAY SERVICE TIME CHANGE: Our Summer Sunday worship schedule will begin on Sunday, May 26 th (Memorial Day Weekend) at 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. CALL/VOTERS MEETING: There will not be a Voters meeting on Monday, May 13 th, as was announced last week. Instead the Coordinating Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. They will discuss Board of Lutheran School recommendations, salary committee recommendations and the budget implications together with calling options in the future so that a total picture and staffing plan can be brought to the Voters at a future date after it has been discussed and recommended by the Board of Lutheran Schools and the Coordinating Council. NEW MEMBER COOKOUT: The Board of Outreach is hosting a cookout here at St. Paul s on Sunday, June 9, at noon for our new members who have joined over the last year. If you would like to attend and meet the newest members of our St. Paul s family, please sign up on the sheet on the counter in the narthex. If you would like to bring or donate food items, there is a sign up sheet for that as well. The deadline for sign-up will be Memorial Day weekend

7 BOARD OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH: The Board of Spiritual Growth will meet on Tuesday, May 14 th at 7:30 p.m. CHURCH ORGAN: As many of you are aware, last weekend the organ in the church stopped working. It is being looked at and options are being researched at this time. For now, we will be using the piano to lead our worship services in the church. SHARE THE MISSION DOOR COLLECTION: Beginning in the summer of 2000, Wisconsin Lutheran High School has sent dozens of groups of students to work in mission fields in the United States and throughout the world. Hundreds of different students have participated to date, and this summer a total of 8 groups will travel to Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Mexico, Southeast Asia and Zambia. From our congregation, Austin Wirtz will be going to Mexico, Nolan Romeis to White Mountain Apache Reservation in Arizona and Kyle Brightsman to Palm Coast in Florida. In order to assist this program, we would like to have a door collection after the services this weekend, May 12 th and 13 th. ST.
