1 First Baptist Church Halifax Fourth Sunday of Advent December 23, 2018 Art by Church Member Julia Crowell Come, Lord Jesus, come! We light a purple candle this morning as we long for the Love that only Christ can offer.

2 The Community Gathers for Worship Prelude O Word of God Incarnate - arr. Wyton Organist, Lynette Wahlstrom Please use this time to settle for worship *Please stand as you are able Welcome and Announcements Rev. Jenny Drewitz Silent Preparation *Processional Carol #58 While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks (Winchester Old) *Call to Worship: Deacon Bryan Darrell Come let us dream God s dream again. Come, one and all, let us go to the manger scene where those of old saw God s new day on earth unfold. Come let us dream a dream of love. Let us journey to Bethlehem where Magi from the East came to offer gifts of love to God s salvation for the world. *Prayer of Approach Lover of creation, may we be reminded today and throughout the Christmas season that you come to bring us love. In this time of worship, remind us of your love for each one of us. As we depart, prepare us to enter the joy of Christmas with love for ourselves, our families, and our neighbours. Amen. Anthem: Mary, did you know - Greene/Lowry Jon-Paul Decosse, bass-baritone Prophetic Reading: Isaiah 65:17-25 (pg. 696) Dave Gibson *Sung Response: Come Let Us Dream Come let us dream God s dream again Come, one and all, let us go to the manger scene where those of old saw God s new day on earth unfold. Prophets are scorned in their own lands and martyrs slain by righteous hands; Though dreamers dies, the dream will live, for we have yet our lives to give.

3 The Lighting of the Love Candle - Bathsheba Deacon Anne Marie Kruger Naug and David Bourque (read more about Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11-12) Throughout Advent, we remember the four women listed in Joseph s genealogy. Today, we remember Bathsheba the Hittite whose husband s death was orchestrated by King David to cover-up the affair he forced upon Bathsheba. Her sorrow was broken with the birth of her son, King Solomon, who the Lord loved. Though mistreated by powerful men, she found love as the mother of King Solomon, and through Solomon became an ancestress of Joseph and Jesus. We light the candle of Love, remembering Bathsheba and the many people in our world dreaming that they might love and be loved. (Lighting of the Love candle) *Children s Carol: #16 The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came (Gabriel s Message) Children s Story Rev. Jenny Drewitz Children in primary grade 12 are dismissed for Godly Play. Story: Advent 3 and 4 *Gradual Carol #38 It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (Carol) Gospel Lesson: Matthew 2:19-23 (pg. 2) Sermon: Dream with Joseph - Dreams of Home Rev. Dr. Rusty Edwards Offertory Anthem Song to Mary Shephard Senior Choir *Presentation of Offering: Doxology (Veni Emmanuel) Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, Praise Christ, all people here below, Praise Holy Spirit evermore; Praise Triune God, whom we adore. Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel, Shall come to thee O Israel. Prayers of the People and the Lord s Prayer Deacon Bryan Darrell Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those that trespass against us.

4 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. *Recessional Carol #22 Angels from the Realms of Glory (Regent Square) *Benediction & Choral Response Rev. Dr. Rusty Edwards Postlude Gloria -French carol. arr.
