6 THE 2018 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES DRIVE (formerly known as the Annual Catholic Appeal) has begun. The Catholic Ministries Fund supports only specific ministries which are focused on: caring for the poor, strengthening families, nurturing our youth and forming clergy and laity. To date, 83 out of our 539 families have pledged $15, toward our 2018 target amount of $34, Please send all contributions to the Resurrection Parish Office. DO NOT SEND DIRECTLY TO THE DIOCESE. Make checks payable to Resurrection Church. Thank you for your generosity. MISSION TRIP KITCHEN DONATIONS NEEDED Several members of our parish will be joining members of other local churches and traveling to Webster Springs, West Virginia July 25th through July 29th to participate in a Mission Trip. Webster Springs is a small town in the Appalachian Mountains that has been hard hit with long term poverty. Our group of approximately 40 high school students and adults will work on various projects to improve homes of individuals and families who would otherwise be unable to afford to have basic repairs done. You can support our mission group s work in West Virginia by donating food and supplies that will be used to feed the teams of workers that will be servicing the several mission projects that are planned. Our mission trip kitchen team will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner for approximately 40 mission group workers each day of our trip. We have identified non-perishable food items and supplies that are needed to prepare the meals for our dedicated workers. There will be a Mission Trip Kitchen Donations tool box at the back of the church. In the tool box will be index cards with items needed for donation. If you can help, please take a card, purchase the item(s) listed and bring them back to the church to a bin that will be marked Mission Trip Kitchen Donations by Sunday, July 22 nd. Thank you for support and please pray for a safe and successful mission trip for our group. May the leaders of our world be bathed in sacred light. May all people put down their weapons and look to the heavens for truth. May loving kindness fill their hearts as forgiveness washes over them and humankind becomes one in love.

7 THE GABRIEL PROJECT PRO-LIFE MINISTRY urgently needs donations of diapers, unscented wipes, baby wash, baby lotion, baby bottles, or new/lightly used baby clothing. Please call Gale at for pick up of items. ST. JOHN GUALBERT CATHEDRAL, 117 Clinton St., will host a Triduum in honor of St. Anne on July 24, 25 and 26. Mass and devotions will be held at 7:00 PM each evening with confessions following Mass. QUEEN OF ANGELS PARISH, Central City, will be hosting a Car Cruise/Block Party on Sunday, July 29 at their St. John site (162 Wheeler St.) from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Live oldies music by Krazy Kat Daddies. Wings, burgers, hot sausage and many other refreshments available. All proceeds will benefit Allen Berkey and his battle with Cystic Fibrosis. THE ST. VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY FAMILY KITCHEN will be holding a Rubber Duck Race - Family Fun Day on Sunday, August 5 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM at Sandyvale Memorial Park, 80 Hickory Street. Tickets are $5.00 per duck and the race will start with a celebrity race at 1:00 PM and the duck race at 2:00 PM. We will have music, food for purchase and other activities during the event. For tickets please contact Greg at the Family Kitchen or Georgia at THE LIONS CLUB: collects used eyeglasses for the needy in our area. If you happen to have an old pair of eyeglasses please consider donating them. There is a collection box in the back of the church LITURGICAL REFLECTION.Following the most ancient Christian tradition, the Church insistently recommends that the bodies of the deceased be buried in cemeteries or other sacred places. In memory of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord, the mystery that illumines the Christian meaning of death, burial is above all the most fitting way to express faith and hope in the resurrection of the body. By burying the bodies of the faithful, the Church affirms her faith in the resurrection of the body, and intends to show the great dignity of our humanity which was assumed by Jesus our Lord. 8 PARISH REGISTRATION We welcome those who have found a spiritual home in our faith community. Parish registration is indicated by a registration (envelope) number. Registration is not to be assumed by simply attending Mass at the parish. Sacraments of Baptism and Marriage are not scheduled within six months of parish registration so evidence of practicing the Faith may be demonstrated. To register at this parish, please call the parish office. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM The sacrament of baptism is celebrated at any Sunday liturgy throughout the year (normally not during the season of Lent). At least one of the parents must be a registered and participating member of this parish for at least 6 months. Baptisms for non-parishioners are arranged after permission is given in writing by the proper pastor of the parents. Arrangements for a baptism can be made at any time before the birth of the child. Normally, a baptismal preparation class is required. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE The sacrament of marriage is arranged by meeting with the pastor. No date or other arrangements are to be made before this meeting. One of the parties must be a registered and participating member of the parish for 6 months before preparations can be made. According to diocesan policy, a date for the wedding is not to take place within 9 months of the initial contact so that all preparation and paperwork can be completed. GODPARENTS AND SPONSORS A godparent/sponsor is to give good example of living out the Catholic faith. A godparent/sponsor is to be fully initiated in the Catholic Church, having received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Holy Eucharist. They are to, and indeed do, receive the Sacrament of Eucharist often. If there is a situation of co-habitation or marriage outside the laws of the Church, that person is ineligible to act as a godparent or sponsor. Church law states that for infant baptism, one male and one female are to be used as godparents. Sponsor certificates can only be given to those eligible and registered at this parish. Participation in the prayer life of this parish must be evident for six months before sponsor certificates are given. Less than six months will need indication from your previous parish that there was participation in the life of that parish.
