3 The liturgical color for the season of Pentecost is green. Green is the color of vegetation, living things and the promise of new life. It is used for the Seasons of Epiphany and Pentecost. As we speak of Pentecost Sunday as the birth of the Church, so the lengthy Pentecost season reflects the life and growth of the Church. Kinder-kids through grade 6 gather for fellowship and music in the dining room on the lower level. Students in grades 7-8 meet in their room in the east wing downstairs.

5 This week (Nov ) is food drive for Upper Des Moines Outreach. Please bring donations of food/hygiene items for the pantry anytime this week. We ll deliver them to Upper Des Moines. Thanks for your support! Thanks to all who auditioned for the Sunday School Christmas Program! Just a reminder rehearsals for those with roles will be held from 7-8pm in the Sanctuary on Tuesday evenings throughout November. And a reminder to the congregation mark Sunday, December 18 on your calendar and save the date, as you won t want to miss the program! It will be held at 5:30pm and followed by a fellowship supper. Plan to be here! Ministry Teams & Church Council will meet on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:00pm and 8:00pm, respectively. Some of the committees meet prior to the Ministry Team meeting. Not sure if/when your committee is meeting? Please check with your team leader. Thanks! Saturday, November 19, Stephen Baker will present the second of three recitals for charities in the Sanctuary at Bethany on the concert grand piano. Come to enjoy piano music and consider supporting some great local mission projects at Bethany and in Spencer. The November 19 recital Anything Goes Your Requests (proceeds to Room at the Table & Feed Our Children) will feature a variety of songs that have been requested by members of the congregation and community. Many requests were submitted with bribes in the form of donations to the local charities benefiting. The third recital is Your Requests Christmas & Holiday Favorites on Saturday, December 10 and will benefit the Multi-Church Community Assistance Fund. Requests are due by November 28. Hurry and get yours turned in!! Bethany s Milestone Ministries celebrates Cradle Roll on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the 8:30am service. Children 3 & 4 year olds who have started Sunday School in the past year will be recognized. Join us as we celebrate this faith milestone with our little ones. On Sunday, November 20 is Bethany is scheduled to round-up the residents for worship at St. Luke Home. Many thanks to those who have already signed up to help! One more volunteer is needed. See information at the Welcome Center. All are joyfully invited to celebrate the installation of Rev Jennifer Henry as pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church at a special service on Sunday, November 20 at 4:00pm. Area clergy and representatives from the Western Iowa Synod have been invited to join the Bethany family of God as we celebrate this new pastoral partnership. A light meal will follow the worship service. Many thanks to those who are helping with the details of this special day at Bethany!

6 Do you have some shoes in your closet that you don t wear anymore? We are helping Soles 4 Souls, a program through Village NW Unlimited in Sheldon, by collecting shoes that have wear left in them. Sneakers, high heels, loafers, dress shoes, flip-flops, work shoes any kind of shoes. Leave them in the collection box at the Welcome Center. Thank you! The Nominating Committee is seeking engaged & energetic individuals to be involved with Ministry Teams and Church Council leadership at Bethany. If interested in finding out where/how you can serve, please contact Sue Metcalf ( ), Steve McAllister ( ) or the church office. Bethany Lutheran Church is seeking volunteers to join the Altar Guild. Altar Guild is responsible for setting the altar for Sunday service, changing the paraments (altar & pulpit linens) and banners to match the appropriate season of the church year, filling the candles with oil, and setting the communion table. Would you be interested in helping with this ministry? Also, help is needed in decorating the Sanctuary for fall and Thanksgiving. If you have an eye for detail and a creative flair, please share your talents! December worship volunteer opportunities, sign-up at Welcome Center! Now that we are back to two worship services and with our special Christmas Eve worship services coming up in December, we are in need of more worship volunteers. If you re able serve as an usher, greeter, reader, communion helper, recorder or projectionist, please sign up to help. The November Loving Spencer project is the Grand Meander Toy Giveaway. Share the Love of Christ by donating a gift to brighten a child's Christmas morning. To participate: buy a new gift appropriate for toddler through age 12 (don t wrap it). Drop the gift off in the collection box in the foyer of the Dream Center and pray for the child that will receive it. Let the November kindness explosion begin! Many thanks to all who have donated fleece for the Blanketed in Faith project!! Mark your calendar for the Social Ministries Fellowship Evening on December 1, at 6:00pm. We will get together as a congregational family to cut and tie the fleece into blankets. No experience is necessary, it s very easy to learn, and everyone is welcome! Blankets will be donated to Lutheran Social Services & Iowa Kids Net for kids entering the foster care system.
