Caring for Country This workshop will provide an Indigenous perspective on "Caring for our common home", with particular focus on the concept of Country and its importance to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia. Catholic Social Teachings across the Curriculum Participants will review CST and explore resources that will assist with embedding CST in many different subject areas. Caring for the Carers In a world that needs us to care for it and its people, where can we find the care and nurturing required to sustain our efforts? Through an informal discussion, we will explore multiple sources of spiritual, physical and emotional replenishment. Sacred Vessels: St Benedict's Vision of Creation This workshop will explore the wisdom of St Benedict, with regards to creation. Writing in the 6th century in a world slipping into chaos, he taught the sacredness of the things we use and the importance of humble reverence with each other as essential for community living. Ecopoetics: Discovering Earth in the Poem Join poet Hannaford as she explores the concept of ecopoetics - the role of poetry in forging deep understandings and connections with both local and global environments. Spend some time creating your own handmade journal using the Japanese stab binding method and a variety of recycled paper. A Culture of Prayer Prayer is central to the relationship we have with members of our family, our community, the earth and with God. It is the way we talk and share with our God. During this workshop participants will create, through art, a prayer journal which can be created with and used across all year levels. CONTINUING WORKSHOP - Participants are required to attend both 1S and 2S. Participants are asked to contribute $10.00 towards the cost of materials please. Why they don't call it "houselessness"...integral improvement in the quality of human life. 19,838 Queenslanders have no place to call home. 17% are children under twelve. St Vincent de Paul s, Why they don t call it houselessness journeys through tangible experiences to connect with the issue, affirming the dignity of those suffering thereby caring for our common home, with the aim of longterm improvement. Participants will create a beautiful adaptable set of 2D paper figures and symbols. These will be ideal in helping your students understand parables and scripture stories, they too will make an excellent visual display on your prayer table, helping to keep this sacred space meaningful and topical. Participants are asked to contribute $8.50 towards the cost of materials please. Integral Ecology and the critique of Anthropocentricism in Laudato Si' In Laudato Si, Francis regularly criticizes excessive anthropocentrism and seems to argue for, instead, an integral ecology that takes the intrinsic worth or dignity of all creatures seriously. The workshop analyses Francis's critique through the lens of a multidimensional conception of human dignity. Excessive anthropocentrism is avoided precisely by taking human dignity (which is of course anthropocentric) seriously. Faith+Religion+Environment The formation of one unity in caring for our common home. How to walk in the footsteps of St Francis, learning from our youth; how to hold on to the wonder of creation. Walking the journey of WYD Panama. Adorning your Home: Decorative Cross Workshop In this workshop we will invigorate the tradition of Catholic families to hang crucifixes throughout their homes as a reminder of Christ's presence and enduring sacrifice. We will transform wooden crosses into embellished artforms through the use of patterned paper, tassels, beads, shells and paints. Give Welcome, Give Hope 710 kilometres from Melbourne to Canberra. 17,000 signatures and a high school teacher to carry them. If you didn t think Australians were welcoming, think again. Through an informal discussion, we will explore multiple sources of spiritual, physical and emotional replenishment. 2D Let us give thanks to the Lord our God Just as he had done many times at a meal, Jesus took bread and gave thanks to God (Lk 22:18-19). We too have many reasons and many ways to give thanks to God for gifts such as creation. Eucharist is an action of thanksgiving to God, so this workshop might help participants to see "Eucharist" in a different light. 2E Ecopoetics: Discovering Earth in the Poem Join poet Hannaford as she explores the concept of ecopoetics - the role of poetry in forging deep understandings and connections with both local and global environments.
