Taking up our cross; following the way of the cross is a work of love for and with Christ. At times we must ask Jesus to make our burden light and depend on the Holy Spirit to lead the way. Choices we feel convicted to make may feel counter-intuitive. The answers to our soul searching don t always match up with our expectations and sense of what seems right, practical, or logical. God, however, is faithful to help us and guide us when we call upon him. Now is such a time for our beloved music minister Marlys Anderson- Hisaw. After five years of leading us in worship, there is a new season in which to devote herself to fulfilling commitments to her business and her family. With courage and obedience she is responding to the Lord s guidance to retire from her position at St. Patrick s. There is joy knowing she is in God s will. Yet, there remains a sense of loss for her, for me and for our entire congregation. Her presence as part of our ministry team surpasses her ability as a musician. Thank You Marlys!! Sunday, October 14 th at 10:00 am, we will celebrate Marlys ministry of music. I invite you to be present giving praise and thanks to God for all the Spirit has done among us through her leadership and heart for the Lord. The Good news is that Marlys is not leaving us and she will continue to support St. Patrick s in developing worship. As Marlys expressed to me, We are not always able to see around the bend. In faith let us see what the Lord has for us as we go around this curve. We give thanks to the Lord with grateful hearts for Marlys and pray for God to continue to pour out his blessings upon her and her husband

Faithfully yours, Louise+ Jeanne, Doreen, Linda and Nancy H. Summer / Fall Update This has been a busy summer here at St. Patrick with lots of events to celebrate and be a part of. Here are just a few of them: Parish Picnic Many thanks to Bev and Phil Sheller for opening their summer home, hosting the gathering and providing scrumptious BBQ at our summer picnic on September 9, There was plenty of food and fellowship. Phil the BBQ Master Dodie enjoying the picnic New Music - A treasured instrument finds a home at St. Patrick s by the grace of God. The chancel space at St. Patrick s needed a Baby Grand piano. I learned of the perfect instrument which was designated for an estate auction. Nancy Hammel played the 100 yr. old Chickering instrument. Heaven came down! Four guys and a truck (Merganthaler s) worked the miracle of moving the beautiful antique piano in and transferring the upright to the undercroft. This addition opens up more opportunities for music and worship. The pianist can see the congregation and the organist! The sound is incredible. We can have music downstairs. 3 Page 3 of 6 Haitian Pastor Visits St. Patrick s Sunday September 30 th, Pastor Joseph Myrthil visited St. Patrick s and shared his mission work in Haiti and the founding of St. Francis Christian School. Greetings in our Lord Jesus: My name is Reverend Joseph Myrthil. I am a native Haitian from the city of Leogane, now residing in St. Petersburg Florida. I was a young boy when the Lord called me to the ministry, I answered without hesitation. As a young adult I began serving the Lord and working to win souls for the Kingdom. My calling continued to develop extending to the United States. In September 1980 my first ministry started with a group called The Good Samaritan in Brooklyn, New York and is still growing. Brother Joseph and Pastor Louise Blessing of Bev s kitty In 1998 Suncoast Baptist Association asked me to be a translator for a convention in Port au Prince, Haiti. During the convention the Lord guided me to start a ministry in Leogane, Haiti. At that time, I learned my great grandfather had given a piece of land to the Episcopal Church in Haiti in My mission started December 8, exactly one hundred years later with two adults and four children. During that time the Lord gave a vision to an American Pastor to do mission in Haiti. Pastor Dixie came to me with the vision and the journey gave birth to Tabernacle de la Nouvelle Jerusalem one year later. The journey continued as the Lord gave a vision to a vestry member at St. Matthew s Episcopal church in St. Petersburg Florida under the leadership of Pastor Louise Baker. Without hesitation and with many prayers and meetings, St. Matthew s answered the call to found St. Francis Christian School in The school today has 65 students and a staff of seven. The mission continues to grow with a second church planted in Port au Prince Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. The Gospel is preached to the lost. Those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour receive education. The Reverend Joseph Myrthil Redeemer Baptist Church of St. Petersburg Florida Blessing of the Animals - September 30 th was also the Sunday to observe the tradition started in the remembrance of St. Francis. A Blessing of Animals can act as a witness to God s and the Church s love, care and concern for creation. Francis heard God s call to live a life of poverty while serving the poor and all of creation. He found the Order of Friars Minor (also known as the Franciscans. Legends say that Francis could communicate with animals. Stories are told of him preaching to birds and later succeeding in getting them to be silent while during a church service.

St. Patrick s School/Child Outreach Programs St. Patrick s Episcopal participates in four outreach programs which directly benefit children in our community. The following explains the purpose, guidelines, and how you can contribute. Harvest Food Receipts: Bigfork Harvest Foods offers financial support to the Bigfork Elementary and Middle School through its receipt program. From September 1 through March 30, customers of Harvest Foods can save their receipts and submit them to the Elementary School office where they are tallied. Harvest Food awards a points value of the total and donates it back to the schools for items not covered within the District s budget. To donate: Save your receipts, bring them to church, and place them in the basket on the entry table. Carol Ward delivers them to the school office. School Mission: This program is specific to St. Pat. s It was started about 14 years ago to directly help students attending Bigfork Schools with needs not addressed elsewhere. Any school counselor or teacher contacts Carol Ward with a specific need; Carol meets the need as quickly as possible and seeks donations from parishioners to cover the expense. Examples of past needs: haircuts and clothing for graduation, cord of wood for older teens raising younger siblings without parents, gas cards for students kicked out of their homes, clothing and shoes especially for cold weather and snow, materials for sewing classes, student mental health evaluation not covered by Medicaid to qualify for treatment which was then covered, scholarship fees, book fair gift certificates, and three college scholarships. Estimated donations to date by St. Pat s are $5000-$7000. To donate: Write a check to St. Pat. s and on the memo line note School Mission. There is a sub account in the budget where this will go, and it will then be used to meet needs. Carol will announce specific needs in Church, but contributions are accepted at any time. Sparrow s Nest: Dedicated to ensuring safe, supportive housing for homeless high school students in Flathead County. Concerned parents and community members have together purchased, renovated and staffed two homes for high school students who are homeless due to being kicked out, and/or violence and other disruption and unsafe conditions in their parents home. Students apply and can reside in these safe homes until they graduate. Some have already graduated and gone on to college! This ministry is amazing! One 8-student home is operating in Whitefish, and the other has recently opened in Kalispell also with room for eight homeless students. Bigfork high school students are eligible to apply for housing in Kalispell and transportation to and from school in Bigfork is available. To donate: These homes are staffed 24/7 and all is provided free to students. Gift cards or monetary donations are needed and on-going. Write a check to

The donation will be routed to Sparrow s Nest in Kalispell. Care Portal: Child Bridge, a local non-profit organization which assists families in Lake and Flathead counties, connects churches and individuals to engage in the support and care of children and families both in and out of the welfare system across Montana. Lake and Flathead county Child Welfare workers and teachers through local school counselors identify a need such as a furniture, diapers, mentoring, meals, etc. and submit it through the Child Bridge Care Portal. The need is assessed by Aaron Scofield, director of Child Bridge for legitimacy. Then, using GEO Radius Technology, the portal quickly sends an invitation to Carol Ward, the Care Portal point person for St. Pat. s. To Donate: Ask Carol to add your to the Care Portal list. She will forward requests to you. If you can assist, you notify Carol with details, and meeting the need is then planned. Please note, replying or meeting a Care Portal need is not a requirement of enrollment. If you are unable to assist with the need, prayer serves as an integral part of the process! Together, you of St. Pat. s through these four programs are having a positive impact on the children in our community! Many times, we have been thanked and told how beneficial and appreciated our contributions are by Sparrow s Nest and Care Portal representatives, teachers, counselors, CPS workers and students!
