From your Priest Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal. John 6: 27 What is our Lord Jesus pointing us to today? He is saying that there is another kind of food and another kind of hunger which bread or rice and curry can not satisfy. The way of Jesus is deeper; it invites us down to the level of heart and spirit. There is a space in each of us that only God can fill. That deep space is a hunger. During prayer, we let that hunger become conscious. The food that matches this deep hunger is relationship with Jesus in faith. Jesus is offering this relationship. It is as if he is saying to each of us, believe, come into the circle of relationship with me. It is satisfy your deeper hunger. I felt this feeling of hunger, longing for God s presence more and more after my mum s death. It has made me think how we can be close to God who can fulfill our hunger. True prayer will help us to move closure to God. It will satisfy our hunger, we are made for this, it is worth working for it. In true prayer we cross over to the other side-not of the lake of Galilee, but by ourselves. We reach down to our authentic self. We go over to God s side. Our Our sincere thanks to Andrew and Felicity who donate all the bread for all centres of our Brekky Club Programme journey leads us to Jesus, the bread of life. Prayer means idleness for God, emptiness before God. Prayer time is time put beyond usefulness to ourselves. We bring ourselves and our time and our desire to be with God. But what happens in prayer is God s agenda. Please try to participate all our Christmas events. Please pray for all our Christmas outreach programmes, which helps us to meet all our community in the new developing areas. Calliope Community Carols please pray and participate in the community carols on the 28th November at Rodeo grounds. We need more volunteers to run the market stalls and help in sausage sizzles. Please contact if you have time. Children s ministry year-end event will be on the 29 th Nov at St Saviour s hall, for details please contact Brad Krebs. Please pray and participate in the confirmation service on the 23/11/14 at 10 am at St Saviour s church followed by lunch at the hall. Please let us know if you are coming and bring a salad or sweets to share. Please kindly remember Jemma Smith, Kale Robinson, Zane Robinson, Jake Robinson and David Kingston who are to be confirmed and Parker Krebs and Sofie Fredericks who are to receive early admission to communion in your prayers. Please continue to remember in your prayers those who have recently received the sacrament of baptism; Charlotte Guest, and Amelia-Ann Redshaw; along with those preparing for baptism; Tynieka Thompson, Seth Hunter, David Harry and Mya Kirk. Your s in Christ Daniel 2

The following was written by a 15 yr. old school kid who got an A+ for this totally awesome entry The Lord's Prayer is not allowed in most public schools in America anymore because the word 'God' is mentioned... A kid in WINNIPEG wrote this as a NEW School prayer: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Our hair can be purple, orange or green, That's no offense; it's a freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise. Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone we must meditate, God's name is prohibited by the United States. We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks, And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks... Guns are allowed, but Not the Bible. To quote the Good Book makes me liable. We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen, And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King. It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong, We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong. We can get our condoms and birth controls, Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles... But the Ten Commandments are not allowed, No word of God must reach this crowd. It's scary here I must confess, When chaos reigns the school's a mess. So, Lord, this silent plea I make: Should I be shot; My soul please take! Amen Sourced from the internet A reflective and inspirational article About 30 years ago in response to a questioner, the then Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Fraser commented that Life was not meant to be easy. It was a disastrous comment that his political opponents would not allow the electorate to forget, they threw it back at him at every opportunity and it probably contributed to his losing the next general election. Among his many sayings, we are told that Jesus once said to his followers Those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for the sake of the Gospel will save it. (Mark 8: 35). It s hardly any wonder that many of those followers quietly crept away and left Jesus to the mercy of the High Priest and his henchmen. Human nature is like that. For thousands of years, humankind has been searching for the easy way. Most of the wonderful inventions that surround us and are taken for granted, were devised to make someone s life easier, or more comfortable, or to enable us to live longer. But that s not Jesus way! Some of us have been Christians all our lives, while some have tried other faiths, or no faith at all. There is usually great joy soon after conversion, a realisation that we are now included in the body of Christ, maybe a great spiritual experience; but others like C. S. Lewis have accepted the reality of their conversion with reluctance. Then, after a while, life seems to go on as usual, there are challenges and there will be pitfalls, even sin we need to confess. We wonder what happened to that first enthusiasm that is the time to remember Jesus words, our faith needs to be grounded in the scriptures. That s the time to ask him for help, to pray and to remember his example, the example of the Apostles and Jesus many sayings that warn us that Christianity is not the easy life. Believers find that their study and their experiences confirm their beliefs, unbelievers find that their experiences confirm their unbelief. To paraphrase Malcolm Fraser: The Christian life was not meant to be easy. To love ourselves means to love God. It means to experience a deep, inner gratitude for the mystery of our creation, for the mystery that we exist at all, for the mystery that God exists before we do; that we emerge out of the unfathomable mystery of God, of God s love, that somehow, we are born out of the love of God. (Aspects of Love 2, by Laurence Freeman). 3

Solution on page 7 Men s Breakfast Air safety has been on our minds recently and this was the fascinating subject of Alan O'Connor's talk to Men's breakfast at the Marina on 11 October. Thanks to his career in Air Traffic Control with the Department of Civil Aviation in Australia and nearby countries, Alan was able to speak with authority and depth. Men's breakfast is held at the marina at 7 am on the second Saturday of even numbered months and the next will be 13th December 2014 then 8th February

Lion facts: Lions are the second largest big cat species in the world (behind tigers). The average male lion weighs around 180 kg (400 lb) while the average female lion weighs around 130 kg (290 lb). Lions can reach speeds of up to 81 kph (50 mph) but only in short bursts because of a lack of stamina. The roar of a lion can be heard from 8 kilometers (5.0 miles) away. Answer: My God sent his angels and he shut the mouth of the lion 5

What are you reading? Title: Angels in the Fire Author: Dann Stadler Publisher : Bethany House Year : 2013 ISBN : As someone who has worked in Emergency Services, albeit in industry not road accident, I found this book intellectually very interesting. As someone who believes in miracles, I know they happen, I found this book brought me incredible evidence of more miracles. As a mother, I found this book touched my heart with compassion as they described the struggles they went through. Yet, none of these single perspectives even begin to do justice to this book. The story of a couple in a car accident, how they got out of it, and even more importantly the journey of their healing, is a heartfelt one. Written by the husband, it tells of the love and support they both received during the months it took them to recover and redeem their lives. I chose this book because it sounded interesting. It was more than that, I read it in a day and a night because I couldn t put it down. At the end of the book, I was disappointed that I couldn t spend more time with this family I have come to know. I hope you get to know them too. By Allison Hutton Editors note: Due to work commitments this is the last book review from Allison for a while. I would like to thank her for the wonderful insight to some very interesting books and wish her will in her busy year ahead. Please send your stories, comments and suggestions to: gladstone@anglicanrock.org.au or drop them to the parish office, 70 Auckland St Gladstone or post to P O Box 72 Gladstone 4680 by 1st of each month 6
