1 Whitfords Anglican Community Church Pew Sheet SEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST 8 July 2018 FROM ANOTHER ANGLE This morning we welcome Reverend Rob Healy, who has been the Western Australia Regional Officer since July He served with BCA (Bush Church Aid) as Field Staff in and then in the parish of Dongara Mingenew from He represented Western Australia on the BCA Executive from May 2007 to June Rob is married to Kaye and they have three adult children Cameron, Daniel and Caitlin. The WA Regional Office is located at St Alban's Anglican Church in Highgate, Perth. It covers the three Diocese of the Province of WA Perth, North West Australia, and Bunbury. Bush Church Aid has worked historically in all three Dioceses and at present, their focus is upon supporting ministry in the North West. (From BCA Website) We welcome Rob to our little parish and thank him in advance for sharing his message with us. Now I have to state that the little story I share with you this morning has no bearing on Rob or his message; it is only meant to bring you a smile or two. A preacher was invited to a small rural church to deliver a message. To his dismay he found that one of the parishioners had brought his dog to the service. He spoke politely to the dog s owner and asked if he would kindly remove the animal. The man obligingly took the dog out, then returned to his seat. After the service, the wardens rebuked the visitor for insulting one of their staunch members. They pointed out that the dog made no trouble; he had been accompanying his master to church for years. During the tea after the service the preacher sought out the parishioner, asked him to accompany him to the side and apologised. Don t worry a bit about it, Reverend, the man replied, It all worked out. I wouldn t have had my dog hear that sermon for anything in the world. Keep smiling and God bless you. A subjective person came along and said, I feel for you down there. An objective person walked by and said, It s logical that someone would fall down there. A Pharisee said, Only bad people fall into pits. A mathematician calculated how he fell into the pit. A news reporter wanted the exclusive story on the pit. A self-pitying person said, You haven t seen anything until you ve seen my pit. A fire-and-brimstone preacher said, You deserve your pit. A Christian Scientist observed, The pit is just in your mind. A psychologist noted, Your mother and father are to blame for your being in that pit. A self-esteem therapist said, Believe in yourself and you can get out of that it. 5 THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD 1 ST READING - DANIEL 7: As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. 10 A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousand served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books were opened. 11 I watched then because of the noise of the arrogant words that the horn was speaking. And as I watched, the beast was put to death, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. 12 As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. 13 As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. 14 To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Hear the word of the Lord; Thanks be to God PSALM 103 As a father is tender towards his children: so is the Lord tender to those that fear him. For he knows of what we are made: he remembers that we are but dust. Our days are but as grass: we flourish like a flower of the field; When the wind goes over it, it is gone: and its place will know it no more.

6 But the merciful goodness of the Lord endures for ever and ever toward those that fear him: and his righteousness upon their children's children; Upon those who keep his covenant: and remember his commandments to do them. The Lord has established his throne in heaven: and his kingdom rules over all. Glory to God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit: as in the beginning, so now, and for ever. Amen. 2 ND READING - 2 CORINTHIANS I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. 3 And I know that such a person whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows 4 was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. 5 On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. 6 But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than what is seen in me or heard from me, 7 even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being too elated, a thorn was given to me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep me from being too elated. 8 Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me, 9 but he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness. So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong. Hear the word of the Lord; Thanks be to God GOSPEL - MATTHEW 28: Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. This is the Gospel of the Lord; Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ.
