2 The Solution to a Common Problem... Dear Friends, Every year, during special occasions, we spend money to purchase gifts for those we love. Too often, however, our gifts aren't really needed. And our God-entrusted money that could have been used to lay up treasure in heaven and help people who really do need it such as those who lack basic necessities such as food, safe water and adequate shelter is wasted. Is there a way David Servant and a friend in Cuba to express our love for family and friends on those special occasions and also serve the "least of these" in our spiritual family? The answer is yes, and this gift catalog is the means to that end. Using it, you can honor your friends and family, express your love for Jesus, and lift the very poor among His family around the world. We've made the process very simple. Just tell us which (s) you want to give to, and we'll mail custom gift cards to you to personally give to your loved ones. You can give any amount towards any of our Focused Funds in this catalog. Please also note that the enclosed Gift Order Form can be used not only to order custom gift cards in honor of (or in memory of) your loved ones, but also to designate your personal contributions to your favorite Heaven's Family s. Thank you for caring! We've made it easy to honor your loved ones and serve the 'least of these.' 1. As you browse through the pages of this catalog, ask the Lord for His guidance. 2. Use the enclosed Gift Order Form, visit HFcatalog.com, or call toll-free to give hope. 3. If you desire that your gifts be given in honor (or in memory) of loved ones, fill out the appropriate spaces on the Gift Order Form. It s That Simple! David Servant, Director Heaven s Family guarantees that 100% of your contributions to the Focused Funds in this catalog will be used to meet the needs that meet each 's criteria. Nothing is used for our administrative costs, as those are paid by contributions to our General Fund. 3 Christian Widows Fund Love Orphan's Tear a child Care for awidow Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression... Caring for orphans and widows in their distress... We believe that orphans deserve families just like other children. By assisting Christian orphanages, orphans' relatives, and godly foster parents, Heaven's Family is helping orphans receive the love and nurture that they need. We also help orphanage directors and foster families start small businesses to help them become self-sustaining, and to set an example before orphans so that they will be prepared to be self-reliant as adults. James 1:27 1 plead the widow's cause. Widows in the developing world often suffer severe deprivation. When gainful employment can be found, it s often farm labor that pays as little as 50 cents a day. Heaven s Family seeks to help very poor Christian widows with small business grants and loans that help them start small, self-sustaining businesses like sewing, selling produce, or raising chickens. We also assist widows with medical care, shelter, food, and other basic necessities. Isaiah 1:17 2 $100 $20 little as $20. But any size an orphan's prayer! little as $100. 4 National Missionary Fund Send a missionary How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news! Romans 10:15 National missionaries are men and women who are passionate about making disciples of Jesus Christ among their own culture or nation. They need no language training. They understand their culture and are more likely to be accepted by those whom they seek to reach. They live very frugally, on 2% to 5% of what it costs to send a Western missionary. sponsor a servant Most national missionaries only need between $150 to $400 each month to live and serve. For as little as $10 per month, you can help send a missionary to reach remote villages in lands where Jesus name is little known. Your monthly pledge of any amount to sponsor a national missionary will be followed by communication from us about the dedicated servant whom you will be helping. 3 Speed So they began their circuit of the villages, preaching the Good News and healing the sick. the Walking is the primary mode of transportation for most indigenous church planters. A bicycle, horse, or motorcycle can help a church planter to travel farther and more quickly than by foot, enabling him (or sometimes her) to be much more fruitful. mobilize a missionary We provide sturdy bicycles for shoe-bound missionaries for as little as $60, horses for $400, and small motorcycles for $800. Through your gifts of any size to the Mobilize a Minister Fund, you can be a part of the great harvest taking place in many developing nations by sending the gospel to the most remote regions of the earth. 5 Village Development Fund Liberate a little village He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap... Psalm 113:7 Imagine living in a remote mountain village. You have no electricity, and you have to hike several miles to carry water home from a stream in a container strapped to your back. You survive by slash-and-burn agriculture, but the cleared forest can only sustain one or two seasons of rice crops. So you have to clear more forest every year. The nearest doctor is hours or days on foot away. Heaven's Family's Village Development Fund is liberating Christians in such villages from their poverty. Micro-loans and agricultural education are the key, as villagers build water supply lines to their villages and then grow cash crops for the first time in their lives. Using their new prosperity, they construct school buildings, hire a teacher for their children, and stock a pharmacy. 5 Micro-Loan Fund Provide anopportunity If you help the poor, you are lending to the Lord and He will repay you! Proverbs 19:17 One reason that the poor remain poor is because they have no access to capital or affordable credit. A micro-loan, however, can make it possible for the poor to start businesses and participate in their local economies. Opportunity Loans from Heaven's Family are helping hundreds of poor believers lift themselves from grinding poverty that has plagued their families for generations. Some use their loans to start bicycle taxi businesses. Others sew school uniforms, sell prepared food, raise chickens, pigs, or goats, plant cash crops, or sell produce in the market. An investment that seems small to most Westerners can provide a first-time opportunity for poor believers to escape dependency and enjoy the blessing of supporting their own families. When their loans are repaid after a few months, the returned money is recycled to help another believer! $50 6 little as $50. But any size help a whole village Through our Village Development Fund, we often make loans as small as $100 to every family in a village, which spawns scores of profitable businesses that begin to lift that village from poverty. $1,000 can lift 10 families, and once they've repaid, 10 more, and then 10 more As with all Heaven's Family's Focused Funds, 100% of your gift of any size will end up overseas directly benefitting fellow believers who currently live in primitive villages. $100 little as $100. But any size help a business for a poor believer We can turn your gift of $50 to our Micro-Loan Fund into part of a larger loan that will, over time, help scores of believers lift themselves from their poverty. Psalm 9:18 Life in the isolated communist nation of North Korea has proven to be a sentence of death for many of its citizens. 8 child s Purify a I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. unsafewater Matthew 25:35 Safe drinking water is hard to find for many of the least of these whom we serve around the world. Water sources are often muddy, polluted, or bacteria-ridden, causing chronic illness and even death. A single Sawyer water filter can provide several families with safe drinking water for years. In addition to filters, Heaven's Family also s wells, cisterns, and rainwater collection systems that provide water for orphanages, schools and villages. Safe Water Fund 11 Feed Food Fund afamily I was hungry, and you fed Me. Matthew 25:35 Food to eat. Life's most basic necessity, but something that is lacked by many of the poor families whom Heaven's Family is serving. Food insecurity arises due to political and military conflict, drought, government policies, persecution, and other circumstances beyond the control of our poor spiritual family. Parents who are weak from hunger cannot function well to serve their children, and malnourished children do not develop properly. We are helping to feed the hungry by providing them with food sources that naturally replenish, such as goats that provide milk and meat, and seeds to plant. 12 provide pure water You can provide hundreds of thousands of gallons of safe water for several families for the cost of one Sawyer water filter, which is just $50. 9 a Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 82:4 Christian Refugees Fund Rescue refugee All over the world there are Christian refugees who have been displaced from their homes and villages because of war, natural disasters, and persecution. Having lost most of their worldly possessions, most struggle to rebuild their lives. Our goal is always to help them become self-sufficient as soon as possible, and so we also offer small business grants and loans. 13 Aid a disastervictim The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Psalm 9:9 Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Hurricanes. Typhoons. Cyclones. Natural disasters strike with little or no warning, and often affect millions. They also provide unique doors of opportunity to show our love for Jesus by serving the victims, and to reach those normally resistant to the gospel. Human Trafficking Fund Millions of women and young girls around the world live in the bondage of modern slavery. Some are abducted; others believe lies about good jobs that will help them and their families to escape poverty. Still others are simply sold by parents to traffickers to feed the girl s siblings another month or satisfy their own greed. Heaven s Family is combatting this evil through prevention, rescue and recovery: 1) Prevention, by serving villagers and slum residents the most vulnerable through the gospel and education that will make them aware of the tricks of traffickers; 2) Rescue, which involves developing relationships with girls who work at bars frequented by sex tourists, winning them to Jesus, and helping them start a new life; 3) Recovery, which provides former sex workers with skills and business training that helps them support themselves in their new life of freedom. $30 little as $30. 11 Prison Ministry Fund Remember prisoner Matt. 25:36 I was in prison and you came to Me. Forgotten and left to languish, prisoners often become broken, fertile ground for the message of God s mercy and grace found in Jesus Christ. In developing nations, prisons sometimes also incarcerate the children of female inmates, or fail to provide any food for inmates, who must depend upon friends and relatives on the outside to bring them a daily meal. Through our Prison Ministry Fund, Heaven s Family works with pastoral teams and chaplains around the world to bring the gospel to receptive hearts, disciple new believers, foster reconciliation between offenders and their victims and families of victims, and help released men and women find jobs and plug into local churches. a 17 Rescue an So you are no longer a slave, but a son... Hope is what a man or woman addicted to drugs longs for, but seldom feels. The dreaded disease has been eradicated from most parts of the world. There are, however, places in Africa and Asia where people still suffer its disabling effects and social stigma. This is especially tragic in light of the fact that leprosy is a bacterial disease that can quickly be halted in it progression and rendered non-contagious. Heaven s Family is serving victims of leprosy in India and China. We're providing medical care, food, clothing, blankets, and the means for producing food and earning income. 13 BuildGod s kingdom in Cuba How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news! Romans 10:15 Cuba is changing as the communist government is beginning to wake up to the fact that communism never has and never will work. But fifty years of hardship and persecution for the church has spawned a long-running revival across the Caribbean island that continues today. And with the government now requesting the church's help to solve the nation's social ills, believers are taking advantage of unprecedented opportunities to build God's kingdom. Heaven's Family is at work in Cuba through the training of pastors and missionaries, as well as providing grants and micro-loans to enterprising believers and church planters, helping to lift them out of the inevitable poverty that results from communism. Cuban Christians Fund 21 Restore a brother sister He sent them to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 14 Education Fund Unreached People Groups Fund Educate a child Train up a child in the way he should go; even How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? when he is old he will not depart from it. Romans 10:14 Proverbs 22:6 Besides food, the one thing that impoverished people around the world desire for their children is an education. They know that education is their children's only hope to escape the cycle of poverty. In many developing nations, however, public education is not free. Consequently, we receive many requests for tuition assistance. Heaven s Family helps children from Christian families receive an education by supplementing tuition payments, supporting Christian schools by ing the purchase of books and desks, and even building schools. Reach theunreached 23 An Unreached People Group (UPG), of which there are about 7,000 in the world, is a distinct ethnic group that is less than 2% Christian. Through our Unreached People Groups Fund, Heaven's Family is initially focusing on two people groups the Ha Ni and the A-Che both of whom live primarily in China. The A-Che are mostly animists, in bondage to superstition, worship of demons, and animal sacrifice. Fewer than 1% are Christians, and the local government is hostile towards believers. Leviticus 26:3 25 Poor subsistence farmers around the world often fail to produce enough to feed their own families, but only because of lack of knowledge. Through our Farming God's Way Fund, Heaven's Family is teaching Christian farmers holistic, biblically-based agricultural methods that can increase their harvest as much as five-fold! 16 General Fund Helpus change theworld 27 The administration that is required by Heaven's Family's staff of twenty dedicated servants is massive. Most of us work all day, at least five days a week, seeking to better serve the "least of these" and you, our donors. Many of us spend one or two months overseas every year checking up on projects and interfacing with indigenous and expatriate partners. Throughout 2013, I worked an average of 59 hours per week. All our administration costs money, but we are bound by our core principles, one of which is the desire to serve, with absolute purity, the "least of these" and those who want to help them. We don't want to make appeals on behalf of the poor and keep any of the money for ourselves that our donors contribute to help them. That is why 100% of all contributions to any of our Focused Funds are sent overseas. Yet it costs us thousands of dollars each year just to wire money around the world to our trusted partners. We also have to pay reasonable salaries, office rent, utilities, printing, postage and so much more. For those reasons, we must have a general to which people can contribute. We do all we can to keep our administrative costs low. Many of our staff members are paid nothing, or raise their own support. No one is getting rich (but we hope we are getting rich in heaven). Office staff (including me) work in cubicles that are five feet square. We buy economy class air tickets. For those reasons, I ask that, with any gift to any of our Focused Funds, you also consider adding a gift towards our General Fund. That gift to our General Fund will help us administrate your gift for the "least of these." Thank you so very much. David Book Shop Give a Book to yourself, a family member or friend!
