People: Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in Heaven! Hosanna on Earth CALL TO WORSHIP This is the day we commemorate Jesus entering the holy city of Jerusalem and being proclaimed Messiah by those who spread their garments and palm branches along his way. Let these branches we hold in our hands be for us reminders of his victory. Grant that we who bear them always proclaim Jesus as the Messiah by walking the way of his resistance to oppression of every kind. In dying, Jesus cast out all fear even the fear of death; in rising he restored us to new life. So now let us all join our hearts in praising God, our minds in knowing God and our bodies in showing up with God in seeking justice that leads to peace. Let us listen once again to the story of Jesus who protested inhuman regimes, challenged selfindulgent religious leaders and nurtured and nourished the people into real discipleship. 6 WHAT S HAPPENING Welcome to Grace Café Grace Café (ASUMC s outreach to folks currently without homes) is open every Sunday through the end of June. After a brief period of faith sharing, those gathered will enjoy a home-cooked meal hosted by volunteer groups. 200 people attended last week s Grace Café. The Robbins Family and volunteers provide today s dinner. There are still openings for hosts to bring food and prepare a meal for about 200 people. If you know of a group that would like to assist in this important mission, please have them contact the church office at or Darlene DiDomineck and Carmen Francesco at gracecafephilly@gmail.com Greeters, servers and clean-up crew are needed and always welcome. On Easter Sunday the front of the sanctuary will be blanketed with the beautiful flowers of Easter and spring. If you would like to order a plant for the Sanctuary Flower Garden, please complete the order form and attach payment (checks made payable to Arch Street UMC,) and place in the offering plate with your form or return form to the office. Reminder: Sunday March 25 th is the last day to submit an order for the flower garden.

8 Calling All Clergy and Laity The National Council of Churches and partners invites YOU to the April 4 th A.C.T. to End Racism rally on the National Mall. Let s travel together, stand in solidarity, and let our presence be seen and our voices be heard! When: Wednesday, April 4 th 9AM-4PM- Rally and Call to Commitment Where: The National Mall, Washington, DC How: Bus pick-up and drop off in Reading & King of Prussia (see more details at Fee: First 30 to register- $25.00/person, Regular Registration- $35.00/person Sign-up online: Unite To End Racism: This landmark event, held 50 years to the day of Dr.Martin Luther King s assassination, is part of a movement to change the horror of the assassination into a strong witness for ending racism. In spite of that awful act, Dr.King was not silenced. We and others are picking up the torch and carrying on with a multi-year effort to finish the work Dr.King began. We are committing to finishing his work: A world without racism is possible. Yet we still have a long way to go. Statistics tell an alarming story of hate crime increase and severely lagging economic and social indicators for communities of color. The A.C.T. to End Racism rally and intiative calls individuals and communities to direct attention on past and prsent injustices-and to plot a course forward for racial justice. In our lifetime, we can awaken to reality, confront the need to change, and we can transform. A Look at Our Faithfulness Combined attendance for last Sunday March 18th was 111. Your tithes, gifts, and offerings help ASUMC make a difference in our community. 3 people attended the Lenten Service on March 21st.

9 Sunday School All those interested in reading, reflecting on and discussing the Bible passages used in each week s sermon are invited to meet in the Chapel every Sunday at 9:45am. The scripture readings for today s class are Acts 10:34-43, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, and John 20:1-18 or Mark 16:1-8. Readings for NEXT week are Acts 4:32-35, 1 John 1:1-2:2, and John 20: Arch St. United Methodist Women s 2018 Calendar We meet on the second floor conference room of Arch Street UM Church on the second Sunday of the month, but there are several exceptions to this schedule so please check the calendar below to be sure of the dates. Everyone is welcome DATES OF UMW Meetings: Sunday, April 8 Sunday, May 6, a week early to miss Mother s Day Sunday, June 10 United Methodist Night at the Sixers Come join United Methodists in supporting the NBA Philadelphia 76ers on March 28, at 7 PM. We will enjoy fellowship together while watching and cheering our home team, as they take on their rivals, the New York Knicks. We have good seats available for $36 and $45 tickets. A portion of ticket sales for this annual fundraiser will go to support ministries of the Eastern PA Conference United Methodist Men.

10 Spring officially starts on March 20! Easter is coming, a time of joy after the sorrow of Good Friday. Trees and flowers that had lost all signs of life are suddenly leafing out and blossoming. It is a time of rebirth in our spirits when the warm sun replaces winter gloom and chill. As Lent ends and Holy Week arrives, it is a good time to use your rising springtime energy to make a difference in the world. There are many opportunities to help the earth, to make sure Philadelphians have jobs and earn a living wage, and to stop gun violence. Please participate in one or more of these events endorsed or initiated by POWER. Ask a friend to join you to grow the crowd and amp up the energy! Demand the Ban rally and march, Arch Street Friends Meeting House, 4th & Arch Streets Postponed from March 21. Check the bulletin board in the chapel lobby for the new date. The rally will feature a melted-down assault weapon that has been made into a garden tool. We will march to Senator Toomey's office to present it to him and demand that he support Senate bill S2095, the Assault Weapons Ban of We Won't Wait actions March 27 at 2:30 PM and March 28 at 4 PM. Both are at PECO, 2301 Market St. Join in the urgent demand for green jobs, clean air, and solar power. POWER's new and dynamic Climate Justice action team is organizing this. I Am Human Campaign April 4 at 5 PM at City Hall on the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King's assassination, to continue his fight for human dignity by fighting for living wage jobs. Lead by Example Press Conference April 5 at 9 AM at City Hall, Room 401, to support POWER and many other organizations as we unveil the 21st Century Living Wage legislation for Philadelphia. You must bring ID to get into City Hall. Come early, as you may have to wait in line to go through security.
