Welcome to our visitors. We are glad you are here to worship with us today. Visitor forms are on the inside back page of the bulletin. Please complete, tear off and place in the offering plate, so that we may contact you. Also, use this form for prayer requests or for any activity signups. The Lord s Supper will be served today. Should you have any questions regarding the Lord s Supper, please see Understanding Communion in the bulletin. May God s blessings in Christ be with you. Let us never be afraid of beginning to serve Christ. But let us begin seriously, thoughtfully, and with a due consideration of the step we take. And having once begun, let us pray for grace that we may persevere, and never fall away. - J.C. Ryle Hold Thou Thy cross, before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee; In life, in death, Lord, abide with me. - Henry Lyte Please turn off or silence all communication devices. Courtesy walker and wheelchair are available at the main entrance. Hearing Assistive Devices (FM Receivers) are available at the back sound booth. Congregation standing
Worship March 18, 2018 Preparation for Worship The Greeting Leader: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. The Call to Worship God calls His people to worship REVELATION 5:9-12 And they sang a new song, saying, Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth. Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! 2

Invocation We seek the Lord s presence among us Doxology We respond in praise LASST UNS ERFREUEN Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below. Alleluia, alleluia! Praise him above, ye heav nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia! Confession of Sin We acknowledge our sin O Lord, receive us in repentance; O Lord, leave us not; save us from temptation and grant us pure thoughts; O Lord, grant us tears of repentance, remembrance of death, and the sense of peace. Grant us mindfulness to confess our sins; O Lord, grant us humility, charity, and obedience; grant us tolerance, charity, and gentleness; implant in us the root of all blessings: the fear of You in our hearts. O Lord, vouchsafe that we may love You with all our heart and soul, and that we may obey in all things Your will. Shield us from evil persons and devils and passions and all other lawless matters; O Lord, Who knows Your creation and that which You have willed for it; may Your will also be fulfilled in us sinners, for You are blessed forevermore. Amen. - John Chrysostom (c AD) 5

The Preaching of the Word Pastor Ryan Moore JESUS ENCOUNTERS THE CROWDS: WHAT IS DISCIPLESHIP? Discipleship is 1. Single-minded 2. Preferential 3. Cross bearing 4. Unconditional 9
Communion Prayer of Thanksgiving The Encouragement Pastor: People: Pastor: People: Pastor: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. Words of Institution The Confession Pastor: People: Pastor: People: Pastor: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast. The gifts of God for the people of God. Statements for Communion: The body of Christ for you. The blood of Christ for you. You have new life in Christ. You have full forgiveness in Christ. (We do serve wine in the communion trays but you can also find grape uice in the center of the trays.) 10
Understanding Holy Communion For Christ our passover has also been sacrificed for us, therefore, let us celebrate the feast. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 Because we believe the Table belongs to the Lord, it is vital that you come this morning on His terms: 1. You must be in communion with Jesus Christ by faith and repentance, trusting Him alone for your salvation. 1 Corinthians 11: You must be in communion with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Matthew 5:23-24; Ephesians 4: You must be in communion with the church (any Bible-believing church) as a baptized member in good standing. Matthew 18:15-18; Hebrews 13:17 4. Because we seriously heed Scripture's admonition in 1 Corinthians 11:28-29, We invite children who are ready to make a public profession of saving faith to complete the Communicants Class materials available at the book table, arrange a meeting with the elders, and thus become regular communicants at the Lord s Table. "But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11:
Prayers for Those Not Communing For those searching for truth: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me the ability to follow you no matter what it might cost me. Give me an understanding for you that is coherent, convincing, and leads to the life that you promise. Amen. For those who desire to profess faith in Christ: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever believed, but through you, I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead and are now representing me at the Father s right hand in heaven, I turn from my sins and receive you as my savior. Amen. A prayer for those struggling against sin: Lord Jesus, give me the ability to see in you the fulfillment of all my needs and desires, and help me to turn from every false source of satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely to me, and run with perseverance the race that you have set before me, looking only to you, the author and perfecter of my faith. Amen. A prayer for covenant children who have not yet made a profession of faith: Lord Jesus, thank you for giving me the opportunity to grow up in a Christian family where I am surrounded by the good news of the gospel. Help me to grow in my understanding of who you are and what you have done for me on the cross. Help me learn what it means for me to turn from my sins and trust in you alone for my salvation. Teach me what it means to follow you as one of your disciples. Amen. 12
Closing Hymn We respond in faith and song Jesus, I My Cross Have Taken Jesus, I my cross have taken, All to leave and follow Thee. Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shall be. Perish every fond ambition, All I ve sought or hoped or known. Yet how rich is my condition! God and heaven are still my own. Let the world despise and leave me, They have left my Savior, too. Human hearts and looks deceive me; Thou art not, like them, untrue. O while Thou dost smile upon me, God of wisdom, love, and might, Foes may hate and friends disown me, Show Thy face and all is bright. Soul, then know thy full salvation, Rise o er sin and fear and care Joy to find in every station, Something still to do or bear. Think what Spirit dwells within thee, Think what Father s smiles are thine, Think that Jesus died to win thee, Child of heaven, canst thou repine. Haste thee on from grace to glory, Armed by faith, and winged by prayer. Heaven s eternal days before thee, God s own hand shall guide us there. Soon shall close thy earthly mission, Soon shall pass thy pilgrim days, Hope shall change to glad fruition, Faith to sight, and prayer to praise. Words by Henry Lyte; Music by Bill Moore 13
Sending of the Saints The people of God are sent into the world The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 1:5 People: Thanks be to God! Ascription of Praise God blesses his people as they go Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great oy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, maesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. 17 Christian Education Winter 2018 Questions People are Asking about Scripture: We will have a January mini-mester on the topic, Questions People are Asking about Scripture. Here are some possible questions we might tackle: What about heaven and the second coming of Christ? What about angels? What about the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of man? This class is perfect for visitors and members looking to meet people in the church and engage with friends. New topics will be discussed each week (unless the discussion is so good it needs another week to cool down). Join us Sunday mornings to see What s Next! Contact Rev.
