2 A Special Event 2: God loves the World and me! This Special Event is an opportunity to invite friends, neighbours, colleagues anyone really to hear someone explain how they came to believe in God s saving love themselves. It also includes a quiz on a Around the World theme. A Powerpoint presentation is provided or you can use the list of questions and pictures provided instead. If you can t think of anyone who can share their testimony, why not invite one of the denomination s workers or one of the ministers! and they can even present the quiz! Planning the Event Please refer to the Dorcas handbook for ideas on how to arrange the Event also available at content/uploads/2013/01/booklet2- EN- FINAL.pdf It would be a good idea to have a collection of suitable Christian books and leaflets/magazines that explain the Christian faith for people to take home. If you put these out before the ladies arrive they can browse as they are waiting for things to get going. What about having a prize for the winners? Think how you will arrange the teams pairs, triplets, small groups? How will they sit in rows, around tables, in circles? Provide answer sheets (template provided at end) and pens to write down answers. Get the technology set up in advance and be familiar with the quiz. Ask for help from someone if the technology is a bit daunting. Invite your speaker and remember to tell them who you expect to be present and how long you would like them to speak for. Tell them the theme of the Event is God so loved the World and me! so they can tailor what they say to include reference to the theme. Consider what expenses you will pay them. Suggested format Arrive and informal chat why not have soft drinks and chocolates set out for people to enjoy as they arrive? 3 Testimony You can link the quiz to the talk by explaining that all over the world today there are Christians, who love the Lord Jesus and read the same Bible, which is the best selling book of all time. Even though in Western countries Christianity is in decline, in many parts of the world it is increasing at an amazing rate. For example, an article in the Telegraph newspaper in April 2014 predicted that because so many people there are becoming Christians that within 15 years China would become the world s most Christian nation and that is in a country that is officially atheist! Introduce your speaker briefly and invite them to share their story of coming to believe in Jesus Christ. End with a short prayer and invite everyone to stay for refreshments.
