FROM your senior warden Despite it being autumn, there are signs of new beginnings all around us. Nancy, our new rector, has been with us now for over a month. She has been out meeting parishioners and getting to know us. Our program year has begun with a growing church school and more activities than I can keep up with. We have been working hard in our various groups and committees and on the Fayre. There is a renewed sense of excitement and purpose. We are starting to see benefits from our Sustainability committees, including more requests this fall from people wanting to rent our spaces and a small reduction in our Diocesan assessment. Many more ideas are working through the committees as well. As we begin to focus on our 2018 Stewardship campaign, please pray about how you can help. It is time to plant the seeds for next year, to anticipate all that we could do. Where do we want to be a year from now? Will we have the resources to get there? With your help we will. We are ready for new beginnings. Together we can do awesome work. -Ernie I will walk with each of you on INGATHERING SUNDAY, November 12, as we present our pledges together in faith and thanksgiving. Thank you. Peace and blessings, Nancy+ Page 3
FROM YOUR rector by Nancy J. Hagner Behold, I am making all things new. REVELATION 21:5 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, This quote from Revelation is on my mind these days. God says Behold, I am making all things new. As I settle into my new home and new church I am aware every day, every moment, that God is making all things new for me and for us as a church community. While change is often a source of stress and discomfort, we are to remember that our God, the one who is constantly creating, IS making all things new all the time. Our challenge is to notice, to participate, and to give thanks for the renewal of life in our community of faith, and in our individual lives. Thank you for the warmest of welcomes. You have opened your hearts and your homes to me this past month and I look forward to more teas, dinners, meetings, walks, and coffees together as we begin the wonderful blessing of getting to know each other. Your love is pouring out and I am so very grateful! Thank you. You will receive a letter from me in the mail announcing again the good news that God is making all things new. That letter asks for your faithful and generous pledge to our common life here at Trinity Church. Please respond with the gratitude you have for our community of faith. We need everyone to participate generously so our mission for 2018 may grow and be realized. I will walk with each of you on INGATHERING SUNDAY, November 12, as we present our pledges together in faith and thanksgiving. Thank you. Peace and blessings, Nancy+ Page 4
FROM YOUR associate by Becky Gettel Dear Trinity Community, It s November, which for me is always a time to re-up my gratitude practices; not just because of Thanksgiving, but also because it s my birth month, and I am grateful for my life. Our family recently started a practice of listing three gratitudes a day at dinner. I will share three with you: 1. My garden I think it is so beautiful throughout the seasons, but particularly in the fall when the harvest comes in. I am grateful to my husband for planting and tending it and to my children for inspiring it. 2. Nancy A new colleague and companion along The Way. I am/we are so blessed. 3. YOU ALL! Your mobiles, hanging around the altar on October 1 st, made me so happy to be a part of you, among you, and at home in Christ alongside you. Yours Gratefully, in Christ, ~becky Page 5
Adult forums Sundays at 9 AM NOVEMBER 5: Children & Youth Ministries How wonderful to see the stream of children and youth entering the sanctuary before communion! But much goes on behind the scenes through the help of Trinity volunteers both during the service and throughout the year. Representatives of our children and youth ministries will explain what they do and how you can get involved. NOVEMBER 12: "Imagining Scripture" Painters, sculptors, writers, and poets throughout the ages have explored Biblical stories using their imaginations to enter into the Scripture. Join our rector, Rev'd Nancy, as we listen for God's word through the work and imagination of contemporary poet, Scott Cairns. NOVEMBER 19: God as Trinity in the Old Testament: A Look at the Prophet Ezekiel Is the doctrine of the Trinity an invention of the New Testament or post-apostolic Church? In this discussion, we will examine a text from the Book of Ezekiel to see whether we might find glimpses of a Trinitarian understanding of God. The presentation will suggest the origin and logic of the doctrine of the Trinity in the Old Testament, and make a case for its importance for the Christian faith. Presenter: The Rev'd Dr. Matthew Burdette is a curate at Church of the Good Shepherd in Dallas and serves as associate program director of the Center for Catholic and Evangelical Theology. He studied at General Theological Seminary, and did a PhD in theology at the University of Aberdeen, researching the political eschatologies of Robert W. Jenson and James H. Cone. Matt is interested in the Christian doctrine of God, theology of culture, and the tradition of Christian socialism. NOVEMBER 26: NO FORUM: Thanksgiving weekend Page 6
Music notes by Robert Barney Prelude Recital & Choral Evensong All Saints Sunday, November 5 at 5 pm In 1517, Martin Luther challenged the Church s teaching on several issues, leading to a Reformation of the Church. As the winds of change were blowing in Germany, England s King Henry VIII liberated himself from the Roman Church, setting off a conflict that took years to resolve. In 1725, Johann Sebastian Bach wrote a Cantata for St Thomas Church in Leipzig to celebrate the German Reformation. Out of the English Reformation our Book of Common Prayer was created, which established the Anglican tradition of Choral Evensong. Come hear our Parish Choir, accompanied by a small orchestra, sing Bach s Cantata 79 God is our sun and shield and Telemann s setting of the hymn A mighty fortress is our God to mark the 500 th anniversary of the Reformation as a prelude to the service of Choral Evensong in celebration of All Saint s Sunday. The Choral Evensong will include music by Purcell, Tomkins and Ayleward. Please join us for this special offering, spread the word and invite your friends! Choral Evensong December 3 at 5 pm For many years we have offered Choral Evensong in the Chapel in Advent as a beautiful and meditative service of sung prayer, sung this year by our Youth Choir. Plan to come and spend 45 minutes in the presence of God in this lovely space. Be moved, support our youth, and invite your friends to join you for a brief diversion from the rush of holiday commotion. Ask the Music Director If you have any questions about the choirs or music program, please do not hesitate to ask. I can be reached at the church ( , ext. 20) or at barney@trinityconcord.org. Page 7
Caring connection by Anne Lynch During this month of giving thanks, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to folks who hear of a need, and respond. Sometimes folks do this with my knowing who they are, and sometimes not. But you know who you are, and so I want to tell you how much the Caring Connection appreciates your: providing food for our freezer; driving parishioners to church on Sundays and doctor appointments throughout the week; making calls and sending cards to let others know you re thinking off them and wishing them well; and praying for the needs of our church family and beyond. Thank you! May we all find much for which to be grateful this month and always! And may we remember to thank others for their kindness to us, and to the One who bestows their blessings on all of us always and in all ways! Amen! Page 8

Children s Clothing Drive November 1 through 29 Although it doesn't feel like it yet, winter will soon be upon us, and once again we hope to provide warm clothing to the children at St. Stephens after school program. In past years we have collected hats, gloves and mittens. Last year our drive was SO successful that they have enough leftovers to provide those items for this year's children. So we are moving on to collecting other items. We will be collecting coats, snow pants, and sweatshirts/fleeces this year. Here are the important points! new or gently used items sizes 6-14 boys and girls colors/styles We will be collecting in the wicker basket which will be in the Narthex starting at the beginning of November. Help our outreach to keep these kids warm as they play outside this winter! Thank you! Katie Garnett and Irene Todd, Coordinators Page 13
Trinity fayre The Trinity Fayre on Saturday, November 4 from 9 am to 3 pm is fast approaching, and we hope you will consider helping. Adults of all ages, kids, and teens, are invited to help with: Donations: Books, housewares, toys, jewelry. If it is in good or great condition, we take it except for clothes and furniture. Leave books inside the River Street church entrance and other items in boxes on the porch of the River Street house. Working the day of the Fayre: Work 2 hour shifts or all day. We need help in many areas, especially White Elephant, Housewares, and Books. Baking: If you like to bake, we need lots of goodies! Set-up: If you have time during the week before the Fayre (October 30 through November 3) to help set up for an hour or two, we could use your help. There will be dinner on Thursday, November 3 at 5:30 pm followed by continued work on the set-up of areas, pricing, and the cutting and wrapping of cheese. Children and teens are also invited for dinner and to help with setting up for the Fayre. Clean-up: We will need volunteers to help with the clean up after the Fayre on November 4 and again on Sunday after the sale at coffee hour on November 5. Tell your friends & family: There will be flyers available at the church to hand out to people or post on bulletin boards. Social Media: Consider posting the information about the Fayre on Facebook or other social media you connect with. Solicit or donate a gift card to be sold at the Promise Tree. We can t have a successful Fayre without you, so let us know how you can help. We hope you can join the Trinity community in making this Fayre the best ever. Thank you in advance for your contributions and help. The 2017 Trinity Fayre Team: Carol Burroughs, Cheryl Holbrook, Barbara Morse, and Linda Vieira (Promise Tree) Page 14
NOVEMBER arts council Concord Artist, Liza F. Carter Liza s exhibit of watercolors and large-scale nature photographs will be on display in the Parish Hall from November 1, 2017 through January 7, Both as a painter and photographer, Liza looks to capture a defining moment that goes beyond a simply physical representation. Her images are often small and intimate yet packed with power. In a world where people are oversaturated with data and image, many people don t register the world around them, much less nature across the country or the world. An environmental scientist by training, Liza uses art to beguile and captivate viewers into a loving and caring relationship with the natural world. Her goal is to create images that help re-connect viewers with the true beauty of nature so that we will protect and care for the fragile planet on which we all live. More information about the artist can be found at com. Artist Reception Sunday, November 26, 3-5 pm There will be a guest appearance from the four-part vocal harmony group, Windborne, one of the headliners for this year s A Christmas Celtic Sojourn.
