And now we begin a new school year confident that God will continue to uphold and bless us. Our school theme for the 2015/2016 school year is Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. It is my prayer that this verse will resonate with us and become something parents, students, and teachers can identify with more and more. Jesus said we are the light of the world. Paul also teaches us to shine as lights in the world. What does this mean to shine? When we ponder this and consider what God has said in His Word, there are several things that stand out. Believers have Christ dwelling in us and it should be obvious to the rest of the world. It s not us doing the shining, but it is Christ in us shining out of us. We reflect Christ to the world. How does the light shine? What happens that causes the light to shine forth? We are called to do all things without complaining and disputing, so we become blameless and harmless and shine among the crooked and perverse generation we live in. (Philippians 2:15) We are called to deny self, pick up our cross and follow Jesus daily. His example leads us to put aside our own will and follow God s will instead. (Luke 9:23) We are called to walk by the spirit so we don t fulfill the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16) We are called to put off our old sinful nature and put on Christ s righteousness instead. (Ephesians 4:22) We are told to overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) If our enemy is hungry, feed him. If he s thirsty, give him something to drink. (Proverbs 25:21) 1

2 We re commanded to love our enemy, bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who spitefully use us and persecute us. (Matthew 5:44) We re commanded to forgive one another because God s forgiven us. (Luke 6:37) There are many more examples, but knowing what the Word of God says is one thing and putting these things into practice by obeying the Word of God is what makes the difference. Think about it the next time you re tempted to grumble or complain about having to do something you don t really want to do. What would Jesus do? Would He complain or would He simply serve? We are to reflect Jesus. As a result, our responses to life s demands should cause others to notice there s something positively different about us. Living in obedience to God s Word will have a radical impact on the world around us because it is so different. Just review the above list again. By nature, we do not think or behave like that. But, by the Spirit, we do. As a school community let s allow the Spirit to lead us in obedience to God s Word. By doing so we are shining as a light to the world. In His Service, Chairman s Report Welcome back all for another school year at Tyndale Christian School. The classrooms and halls are once again abuzz with activity and summer is but a distant memory. Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable and safe summer, although I m sure all of the children couldn t wait for the end of the summer so they could return to school. This should be a continual reminder for us of the Lord s providence when we see that all have returned safely back for another school year At the end of the last school year we had to say goodbye to some departing staff members. As we start this new school year we welcome quite a few new staff members. Ms. Welfing comes to us from BC and is the new grade 1 & 2 teacher. Mr. Bouwsema comes to us from Edmonton and is the new high school teacher, primarily for Math and Sciences. The remaining new staff members are familiar to most of us. Mrs. Pasveer, Mrs. Helder, and Mrs. Kok have agreed to become full-time EAs at Tyndale. We wish all of the new staff as well as the returning staff the Lord s blessing, and may you be given the strength and wisdom to carry out your tasks each school day to His glory. As board we have been able to take a bit of a break over the summer as well. As we get into the full swing of things for the new school year there seems to be no end to items big and small that need to be attended to. The first order of business is to tackle the AFS in time for the fall membership meeting. The board will also be continuing to review new government regulations to see them impact they may have on the school, and as well there always seems to be policy writing and reviews on the go. Thanks to the EPRC for their continued hard work in all the education and policy review matters. As we come to the end of this edition of the Tyndale Times I encourage all to continually pray for the following; Pray that the staff may be granted wisdom, patience, and joy in their tasks. Pray for all of the students to have the continued desire to learn about the glory of God in all subjects and that they show love for all their fellow students. Pray for the board to be able to make wise decisions in all matters. And lastly pray that all of us as parents, staff, and students may have the Holy Spirit guide us so that we may be a light in this dark world Yours in Christ, Joey Schouten 2

3 Treasurer s Report I hope your all had a great summer. A lot happens is our community over the summer. You really get a sense of this when you go away for the summer. I did hear it rained a bit in July and my house looks very different from when I left, but there is much to be thankful for. I heard of no major accidents or health issues in our community and also several births and several families moved to Chestermere. As a board we hope that those families who were affected by the flood are able to find the support and help they need to make their homes livable again. It was great to see new faces in staff and kindergarten students at the opening assembly this year. (Have I mentioned that the kindergarten welcome is my favourite part of the assembly). The school s theme of being lights in the word is a wonderful starting point to so many parts in the Bible. We hope the students draw closer to Christ with the discussions that will occur over the school year. We are also hoping to welcome a couple of new families that are moving to Calgary. Our school continues to grow. I put out a call again for continued financial support from our members. We had several members leave last year and no new members joining. Now we face our yearend and things are not looking very positive. Please keep the school in mind in this upcoming year. If you can make an extra donation this year, it will always be appreciated. We would also encourage you to talk to your fellow church members or family to become regular donators to the school. Even a small monthly donation from a single young adult or a family with kids not in school yet, would be very helpful. This community has pulled together and supported each other in the past and I have faith that we will continue to do this in 2015/2016. May the Lord be with each family and individual in all our unique situations and continue to bless you in the year ahead. Tammy Boessenkool 3
