Celebration of Baptism The Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell, the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. Congregational Response Through God s covenant and the sacrament of baptism, we welcome these new sisters and brother into this family of faith. We promise, relying on God s help, to order our congregational and individual life and witness that they may grow in the knowledge of the love of God and grow in their commitment to Christ as Lord and Savior. We further seek to surround them continually with Christian love and care, that they may live as Christ commands.

Around Jesus. We live in a post-christian era. After centuries at the center of culture, today believers find themselves trembling on the margins. As unfamiliar as it might feel, the people of God have been here before: Exile. From the rubble of Judah God called a tender and reluctant boy to speak his word. After 40 years Jeremiah earned his reputation as a prophet of doom, but his real calling was to be a builder. Because then - as today - God is building a people for himself. God is a builder. Jeremiah walked through the rubble, but he pointed to Jesus and to the communities God would form among his followers. Let's read the prophet of doom together, learn how to be people who build people, and follow Jesus through exile to help one another find a new home in him.
