2 Mother Carol s Column It seems appropriately ironic that Maundy Thursday falls this year on April 1, April Fool s Day. What kind of fool would wash the feet of a friend who would betray him? What kind of fool would put himself at the mercy of an angry, violent mob, when escape would be simple enough? Passion and crucifixion seem like foolish ways to inaugurate a new Way of Life, the Living Way, no less. But St. Paul reminds us: For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. (1 Corinthians 1:25) What might appear to the casual observer as a foolish, wasteful tragedy was actually an earth-shattering event of cataclysmic goodness. The joke was on those who intended evil, when God intended good. The Paschal story reminds us to hold loosely the events of our own lives; what might appear at first glance to be foolish or evil, may very well be an opportunity for God s great goodness to take root and flourish in our lives. That s the mystery of Easter: life from death; light from darkness. Thanks be to God! I look forward to our observations of Holy Week: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and a glorious Easter Sunday! Remember to come for Easter breakfast and to bring flowers for the Cross! Blessings abound! Carol 2

Dear Ones, In our continuing efforts to be good stewards of our resources, as of April 1 we will send newsletters electronically to all those who have computers access. This enables us to save postage and paper costs and enables you to read the newsletter in full color on your home computer the minute that it is completed! No waiting for the mail! Each month, you will receive an e with a newsletter attached; it will also contain a link through which you can find the newsletter on the website. There will be some hard copy versions available at church for pick-up as well. Thank you for your continued support in helping us to cut costs and be good stewards! Blessings and best wishes, M. More than 13 cartridges are discarded in the U.S. every second. Learn how to recycle electronics Many thanks to Bob Stawarczik and his fish fry team for 6 great fish fry dinners! We served 500+ meals and raised approximately $2,980! 4 Greg & Lori Hawkins 12 Mark & Becky Hlavaty 18 Walt & Dianne Kilgus It takes about 80% less energy to remanufacture plastic than to produce it new. And remanufactured laser cartridges use about half the amount of oil (a nonrenewable fossil fuel) needed to make brand new ones. So buy recycled cartridges to begin with. You'll save them from entering the waste stream. 4
5 Parish Particulars From the Children s Ministry.. The Comforter Kids (ages three through five) have been busy hearing stories about Palm Sunday and Easter. They will learn about baby Moses, Joshua and David during the month of April. Parents, please feel free to bring your young ones to Sunday School to hear stories from the Bible. The Godly Play children have been busy learning about the story of Jesus from His birth until His resurrection. April will be busy with more parables and the Mystery of Pentecost. I know this is a busy time of the year with all the school and sports activities. Please be sure to find time to bring your children to church!! Deborah Music Notes What glorious weather we are enjoying this Spring. The church grounds are just teeming with new life. I want to especially thank the choristers and other musicians who have led worship since I arrived last year. Their dedication is inspiring. Later this spring, I'm looking forward to exploring some new service music to hopefully enhance our worship together. In the meantime, plant those gardens and enjoy this glorious Easter season!
