It was a major signal for the student. Easter, Spring break, the end of the year in sight! Wooohooo! Ten days to recharge and make a commitment to finish strong, if not, in a better place and set up for success. Was it the candy in the basket, mom s holiday cooking, visits to my grandparents, religious traditions that fueled the energy needed? To this day, I think, I remember those times and mental images, and I still believe it was all those things. As Knights, I believe we are in that same situation, just brought forward! As an Assembly Officer, or as a Council Officer, or working on a committee, that same month of June is our goal. We must make June 30! As a student I had final exams, and they meant moving on to the next grade level. Well, fellow Knights, it is not much different for us, except some may retire from office and another continues, but, we must be ready to continue and keep our Mission-GROWTH. Recruitment, Degrees are our lifeline, they are a measurement. The 4th Degree Exemplification is in sight for As we finish this year, keep the Exemplification as an attainable goal for all Third Degree Knights. It will be Veteran s Weekend at the Crown Plaza Hotel on Rte. 202 and Namaans Road. Use this time to recharge, rethink, make the finish of this year to put Councils and Assemblies in a fantastic position for next year. One

O'Donnell, O.P Vice Postulator. All Souls Novena of Masses For each day between Oct. 24-Nov. 2 (All Souls Day), a Mass is celebrated by the Vice Postulator, Father Gabriel B. O Donnell, O.P. The Masses are offered for the deceased relatives and friends of Guild members, and petitions sent by the Guild members on behalf of deceased loved ones are placed on the altar. Novena for World Peace During the nine days preceding the feast of the Sacred Heart, which falls 19 days after Pentecost, the Guild celebrates daily Mass at various basilicas in Rome for the cause of world peace. Intentions sent by Guild members are placed on the altar for each Mass. Christmas and Easter Triduum Masses Petitions sent by Guild members are placed on the altar for Masses celebrated in Rome at Easter and Christmas. Each Triduum, or series of three Masses, draws hundreds of petitions from members of the Father McGivney Guild. Write to the Guild to have your special intentions placed on the altar and remembered at the monthly Masses, special Novena, or Triduum Masses celebrated by the Guild. 7 EASTER.AGAIN.FROM AN HISTORICAL & LOGICAL PERSPECTIVE..from the Editor Every year since the Christ left His tomb and continued His evangelization, [even for a brief time], his followers called Christians, make a big deal of this event called the Resurrection. For this historical event not to have occurred, there would be no such thing as Christianity. His followers repeatedly celebrate this Resurrection, A.K.A. Easter, to remind the believing and non-believing world that there is a real purpose of Faith and that Faith is grounded in the hope of eternal salvation. And just what is that? Not complicated! The mortal life of each person created by Almighty God is very brief in terms of eternity. And just what is eternity? Not complicated. Webster defines eternity as being of a timeless state or condition. Eternity cannot be measured. Life on this earth is measured. And so what does Easter have to do with measured mortal life and eternal life? At one time a Jewish woman bore a child and that child grew into Jewish adulthood. That adult lived a brief measured time on this earth. He was murdered by secular authorities and by all reckoning, He should have remained deceased permanently. However a whole lot of events changed that notion. That Man did not remain bound by death and chose to defy the odds and reclaimed human life. That is recognized at the Resurrection. I dare anyone to prove to this world that they can defeat death in such a manner. But, there can be another twist to this and we humans can reclaim life and turn that life into something eternal following the end of our life on this earth. As true Christians who live the Gospels and follow the will of God... and that was expressed so perfectly by this man who is called Jesus Christ. So, in a sense, all of His human creation can claim their own personal Resurrection. And so why do real Christians mark Easter once a year and every year? Simple. We look at history from more than 2,000 years ago and must take example from that humble Man who proved to be the Son of God. Our repeated celebration of Easter is a reminder of our eventual and pending opportunity for a personal Resurrection and that becomes admittance to a place called Heaven and who runs Heaven?.it is He who created it. And who creates humans from humans on this earth? Our Father awaits the faithful to keep Him company eternally. Do not deny Him that pleasure! Open your hearts! Παρακαλώ...ALLELUIA SHALOM Seven

8 NINETY DAYS OUT!..OR WHAT ARE THE ASSEMBLY S ACTIVITIES.HOW TO PARTICIPATE In the quiet corners, at the gathering of Knights, after taking the 3rd. Degree and 4th. Degree Exemplification, the most asked question is, What does the Assembly do, What s Going On? The Assembly is the same as a Council, yet different. Understand that the Sir Knights of the Cardinal Gibbons Assembly may not be from the same Council or Parish. Six Councils help form Cardinal Gibbons Assembly. Our activities must coordinate with six Grand Knights and the Council s they represent. It is extremely important that each Council is represented during the Assembly meeting. The Program of Work or activity lends itself to diversity! Some of our men are trying to get correct addresses and s for our members. A communicating group is vital to a functioning group. We send out most of our communications electronically. We have a website, Newsletter, meeting and activity updates that all require communication. If you like the thrill of investigative work, we can use the help. Sticking with computer activities, were you the guy in school who was going to write the next novel? Or, maybe you were the Editor of the newspaper. Every month, two members of the Assembly produce the Observer. The goal is to reach our membership and inform. This could be your way to be that writer you always wanted to be, the next Dickens. Are you are looking for a more physical activity? Bingo can be in your future. Join us MAY 12 at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere for bingo with the vets. We are the game callers, we validate the winners, we add to the laughs, the Assembly supplies the financing of the game. Not thinking of the VA hospital for bingo? How about every Thursday at the Little Sisters of the Poor on Salem Church Road. A Knights sponsored bingo is sponsored for those living in the facility. The site is close to home! 6:45 pm every Thursday. Your help would be appreciated. My binoculars see baseball! In May, we sponsor a night for VA patients to attend the Blue Rocks. The finances come from the Assembly but we need walkers, assistants, motivators to help the Veterans as needed. The activities include pregame on the field. Help is needed to be attendants for those in wheelchairs. The rest of the night we just interact with the Veterans and enjoy the game. May is not over! How about going to a Veterans Carnival. The VA establishes a carnival type atmosphere on the hospital grounds. Sir Knights help with the ever famous PLINKO. If not involved with plinks, Sir Knights fill in as attendants or buddies to help direct the vets to different activities. The Carnival is enjoyable and only requires a few hours. May is still the busy month for the Assembly. We vote on a slate of Officers! Some find out being an Officer is quite rewarding. You will learn you are not an island, we all help. July is the planning month. The Business Meeting in July sets the goals for Exemplification of the 4th Degree and other activities. The Assembly selects a Veterans activity. We work in conjunction with the Delaware National Guard and assist with a support activity. While we are working with the DNG, we keep our involvement with the VA. The holidays and hospitals are a time to support the VA Giving Tree. You can imagine a veteran in the hospital might need financial support for gift-giving during the holidays. Special Olympics is a special program for the Knights. In February we just finished the Polar Plunge. In the months ahead, bowling, basketball, and Summer Games, track, softball, swimming and more, provide lots of opportunity to participate. If this is not enough for a ninety day view, get involved with the Color Corps! This is a volunteer group. You are not mandated to join the Color Corps just because you are a 4th Degree member. The Color Corps supports the bereaved and offers ceremonial support for the deceased Sir Knights. The Color Corps is involved with State requests for the Color Corps, Special Olympics, or drill team parade. All Knights functions might just give you a very rewarding activity. Yes, to be involved in the Exemplification activities you must be a 4th Degree. To attend an Assembly meeting, having the 4th Degree is needed. Helping with most activities except Color Corps, you can be any degree and your family may join the fun. You must be a Fourth Degree to participate in the Color Corps. Eight
