Time flies when you are having fun. July 31 marks the end of my contract as your Commissioned Ruling Elder. It was a privilege to lead worship and be part of PIPC s discernment process, and to be able to continue after the merger to help integrate the two congregations. Part of the planning for the merger included having me stay on for a while after the merger to help llison with the transition and assist as needed as the members of the merging congregations got to know each other. You made that part of my job easy! The transition was smooth because everybody was so willing to embrace each other and make things work. Each of your previous congregations had its trials, but your collective spirit, energy, and creativity moving forward have been wonderful. I remember hearing somebody say, Because we re a new congregation we don t have to be married to we ve always done it this way; we can try new things! Those were exciting words to hear. It was a delight to collaborate with Pastor llison this year. I greatly enjoyed our sermon dialogues, collaborations, and brainstorming conversations. I am glad that the congregation is in such good hands as you go forward. I appreciated the high quality of the rest of the staff as well. s a musician, I was tickled pink to hear Caleb and Wanda s work and had fun performing with the choir and bells. Debbie and Carolyn are total sweethearts to work with, and Joe always has a cheerful word for everyone. I don t know what my next adventure will be, but in the meantime I will be back on the Carlisle Presbytery s pulpit supply list, so I may have the opportunity to pop in and see how you all are doing. Jim Milbrand and the Lower Paxton Township Variety Band will be playing. There will be bingo and games for kids of LL GES. Look for the (potluck) sign-up sheet in the gathering area, walk-ins are welcome. Note: Drinks and a main meat will be provided. We look forward to our friends from Hope joining us as well! 3 MUSIC NOTES Caleb Flick Growing up, my Great unt Peg, who lived to be nearly 100, often remarked that the Summer was halfway over by Independence Day and if there was something you wanted to accomplish that Summer that you d better do it soon! I think we ve accomplished a great deal at Faith Immanuel this Summer! Various renovations have taken place around the property, including beautiful new windows in the music rooms. We ll finally have a pair of rooms with a view. We ve welcomed some special musicians, such as the Jubilate Chorale and Karen Click, and before the Summer is over we ll have some others too! In ugust, Jim Milbrand s band will provide entertainment for the picnic, and we ll be joined by at least one friend of Roz s, a handbell soloist, on her last Sunday with us, July 29. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Roz Presby for all of her contributions as I will be away the last two weeks of July. In addition to wonderful service as Pastoral ssociate, Roz has been an invaluable addition to our music program. Roz has graciously sang, rang, and provided hints and encouragement all the way through the past year, and I am very grateful for this. Thank you, Roz! major focus of my Summer has been preparing to travel to Klaipėda, Lithuania, along the Baltic Sea, to perform in a piano festival, Klaipėda Piano Masters, for which I have received gracious, partial support from Faith Immanuel in the form of continuing education money. I will be leaving Sunday, July 15, right after worship, and I will return the evening of July 31. I will include a detailed update of what transpired, and perhaps share my program of Mozart, Debussy, and Prokofiev, when I return.
