1 Now Is the Season and Time For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: -Ecclesiastes 3.1 Dear Members, St. Peter Communicator 43 N 3rd St., Hilbert, WI Office: (920) September 2018 King Solomon provides words of wisdom from Ecclesiastes. He goes on to name some times that are in opposition a time to be born, and a time to die (3.2); a time to weep, and a time to laugh (3.4); a time for war, and a time for peace (3.8). We might include: a time for work, and a time for leisure. Or, put another way, a time to rake leaves, and a time to watch the Packers. For everything there is a season, and autumn is fast approaching! Our time in every season for every matter under heaven is valuable. Every day we decide what our top priorities are. If you re like me, you make a list; if not written, at least a mental list. 1., 2., and 3., are must to-do s on the list. After that, the lesser to-do s are numerically prioritized. I consider the day extra productive if I cross off anything after 3. One thing we should always prioritize time for in every season is Christian education. I encourage you to put this at the top of your list for you and your children. Bible studies, Catechism Class for 6 th -8 th graders, and Sunday School are prime ways to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3.18). Catechism Class begins on September 5. Sunday morning Bible Study and Sunday School begin on September 16. A small but growing group of us also gather at Terra Verde in Chilton at 7:00 a.m. on Monday mornings to begin our week in the Word of God. Christian education is important for all ages because it feeds baptismal faith. Christians are made in baptism and kept in the true faith of Jesus Christ by the teaching of Christian doctrine. We remember Jesus words: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Mt ). We never outgrow the Scriptures. There is always more to learn about Jesus; more to discover about His life and teachings; more forgiveness to receive from Him. The salvation that He accomplished on the cross positively impacts your day to day thoughts, words, and deeds. Now that He is risen from the dead and ascended to the Father to take His rightful place as the Lord of lords, every second of every day He holds all things together with His almighty power for the sake of His beloved Church for your sake! There is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. There is no better season and time for Christian education than the present. Take advantage of these opportunities. Be immersed in God s promises with other members of His family and be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; being strengthened with all power, according to

2 his glorious might giving thanks to the Father He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins (Col ). Your partner in the Gospel, Pastor Brassfield Mission Matters Back to School Ingathering: Thanks to everyone who donated to our Back to School Ingathering and thank you to the DuPrey family for delivering all of our donations to the school office. We are most grateful to be able to help our local students in need. Comments on Recent Unrest in Latin America: The Rev. Ted Krey, regional director for LCMS mission work in Latin America and the Caribbean, said of the unrest: We pray for our brothers and sisters that the Lord would shield them from bodily harm and grant them His peace as they trust in Him in this most uncertain of times. We pray for a return to stability and that the Lord would bring quick resolution to this crisis. The situation in Haiti highlights for Christians how important it is not only to show mercy to the suffering, but also to be guided by wisdom while doing so. Unrest and violence typically come at the hands of the few, not the many, but those few can put many at great risk. Let s all remember to pray for Nicole Wittman and her fellow travelers as they travel the world seeking to share the love of Jesus. Nicole recently had a 24 hour layover in Chicago on her way to Belize, and Tony and Susan were able to spend that time with her. Parish Nursing by Judy Paulson, RN, BSN, Parish Nurse Relay for Life: I am still looking for someone to be our Relay team captain for next year. The first planning meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 19, from 5:30-6:30 at the Brillion track. The agenda will be to determine if the layout for the relay could be improved. This will be a good time for providing any input for change. Thoughts on Transitions in Life: I m always looking for something new to include in our newsletter. The following was an article in the Parish Nursing Newsletter from LCMS. I thought it might give all of us some food for thought: Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Prov. 3:5 6). When I thought about writing about transition, my mind immediately went to the word trust. Serving as a parish nurse for 20 years, I was involved with many transitions, such as pastors leaving and new pastors coming, the church board giving updated mission statement for the congregation s ministries, helping people move their parents or themselves from their home to a nursing home or assisted living and supporting and caring for individuals who lost loved ones and are learning how to cope with life alone. And I have experienced personal transitions, such as our children leaving home and our parents needing more assistance with life issues. Through personal transitions, professional shifts or ministry changes, God gave me peace and strength. The world around us changes. There will be transitions. But God does not change. May we trust in our Lord God as we each walk the path that He has set before us. pg. 2

What a blessing to be able to put all our trust in the Lord to care for us during these times. As Karen said, God does not change. May we trust in our Lord God as we each walk the path that He has set before us. LUTHERAN WOMEN IN MISSION Meeting Schedule: Now that it s September, we will be going back to our usual meeting schedule. Our project day activities will continue on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 1:30, and on the third Tuesday we will have our business meeting and Bible study with Pastor Brassfield at 2:30. Our project days are a relaxing time of socializing while we complete projects that will be of benefit to others. We come and go as we need any time between 1:30 to 4:30. On the third Tuesday, we meet at 2:30 and finish between 4:00 4:30. Bible studies are from the Lutheran Woman s Quarterly. We are pleased to provide a Quarterly for each woman of the congregation; let us know if we missed you. Fall Retreat: Do you need time this fall to take refuge in the embrace of our Lord? Join your sisters in Christ! Women in Mission (LWML) invite you to this year s Fall Retreat in Oshkosh, WI - it is less than a month away, Sept ! Register today and join us for a fun, Spiritfilled weekend. Registration forms are on the bulletin board or available at lwmlswd.org/retreats. Jan Struck is our keynote speaker, and will help us look with humor at life s up and downs - safe in our Savior's love. Psalm 36:7 reminds us of God's steadfast love: our refuge at all times. Missionary Jonathan Federwitz and family, along with Pastor David Blas of the Plymouth/Sheboygan Hispanic ministry, will update us on their work. In lieu of staying overnight, Oshkosh is close enough to drive back and forth. It will be fun to see Jonathan and his family and get an update on the various Federwitz ministries for LBT and Wycliffe. pg. 3
