The cry of the Israelites has now come to me; I have also seen how the Egyptians oppress them. So come, I will send you to Pharaoh to bring my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. But Moses said to God, Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? He said, I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you that it is I who sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God on this mountain. 3 Second Reading Ephesians 6:10 20 Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power. Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For our struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints. Pray also for me, so that when I speak, a message may be given to me to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it boldly, as I must speak. Carri Patterson Grindon Nicene Creed (standing) BCP Page 358 Prayers of the People In joyful celebration and thanksgiving for the life and legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leader All Father, we pray for your holy Catholic Church. That we all may be one. Leader O God, in every era you choose and equip men and women to serve the needs of your people. We are deeply thankful for the life of your servant the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birth we celebrate. All May the wisdom and words of Dr. King rekindle our faith. Let us be guided by the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. Leader May Dr. King s struggle for social transformation continue in this generation. May all people come to believe that, with perseverance, We shall overcome. All Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. (Amos 5:24). Leader May we continue to cultivate the non-violent discipline of Dr. King, abandoning unrestrained acts of force and violence. All Dr. King taught us that a heart filled with love is strength for our journey. He believed in self-respect and dignity, even though he knew that there would be difficult days ahead. Leader May we have the courage of Dr. King as we continue to stand up for justice, peace, reconciliation and truth, despite challenge and controversy. All Dr. King said that war is never a victory, regardless of the outcome. Leader All Leader All Liberate us, Lord, to celebrate life and all the gifts of life. Especially the gifts of diversity, race, ethnicity, culture, age and gender. May the peace of the Risen Christ cause the fury of war to vanish from the face of the earth. Lord, lead us to Eucharistic lives of thanksgiving, praise and proclamation. For the love of God compels us to lift every voice until we are all free at last. As Dr. King made a difference, Lord help us, as we journey together, by your grace, to make a difference.

These three have worked together to take a careful and thorough look at our CYF offerings, have listened deeply to those of you who have shared thoughts and ideas, and have created a renewed vision and description of this area of ministry at Saint Mark s. They are eager to share it! Our meal will be potluck, so bring something to share. Childcare and programming for children and youth will be provided for the later part of our gathering. As we make the transition from the wondrous season of Epiphany to the more reflective season of Lent, what better activity than to share thoughtful, provocative and inspiring conversation that deepens our experience of this significant transition. In gratitude to our community, the students and mentors of Saint Mark s EfM group will offer this behind the scenes experience of a typical EfM meeting: a short reading, discussion and reflection and brief opening and closing worship. As focus for the morning, we will be reading, discussing and reflecting on short readings from Father Gregory Boyles latest book Barking to the Choir which we will be happy to provide for you prior to the event. They are quick reads and can be done at the session, too. Whether you have been curious about what the heck EfM is anyway, are an EfM graduate, or looking for some spiritual food, you will find it at this annual public Education for Ministry event.
