Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. 3 PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Lord Jesus of fisher folk, you taught your disciples to cast a wide net -- not for fish, but for people. Teach us the fishing craft. Make our fingers nimble so we may handle hearts and hands gently; make our minds quiet and patient while we wait for those who are not yet ready to receive you; and make our hearts hungry for your word, for the sake of the one who has captured our hearts already, Jesus Christ. +WORD+ Gospel Reading Luke 5: Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!" For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people." When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him. Word of God, word of life. 9 Annual Meeting is TODAY! Any and all members, please join us down in the Fellowship Hall directly after worship service today for our Annual Meeting, where we will vote on the budget, new council members, etc. Reports can be picked up ahead of time on the table just outside the Library. Prayer Service for Unity: Grace is hosting a prayer service for unity TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. This service is put on by the Ely Ministerial Association, and all area churches are included. At this service, we will pray for unity and peace, both for our community and for the Body of Christ. This year's theme passage comes from 2 Corinthians 5:14-20, and focuses on reconciliation. There will be a time for fellowship and light treats afterward. All are welcome to come join in prayer for peace, healing, and unity around the world. Phone Tree: In an effort to streamline communication, we re creating a church phone tree. If you don t have , or want to be notified by phone as well, please sign up by the office, or call to be on the list. Please contact Pr. Katie or Candy with any questions, and update us with any changes to your contact information. Keep Warm! Keep Warm! is a program that gives winter clothing to any VCC student who has a need. Last year alone, Keep Warm! provided boots for 50 students. Through monetary donations, Keep Warm! is able to purchase boots, hats, gloves, and gators from Ely Surplus. (Coats are gathered through donation only.) Keep Warm! is a way for us to connect with VCC students and build relationships to show them that we truly care about them. Please consider donating (men s coats are the biggest need!) to this worthy program Winter-Spring Graceful Dining: If you are interested in participating in Graceful Dining for February-May 2017, please sign-up by TODAY on the sheet on the outer office. Groups of 3-4 couples will share dinner in each others homes over the next several months. Contact BJ Kobierski for more info. This is a wonderful way to meet and socialize with your Grace family. You do not need to be a member to participate. We welcome new couples. Confirmation Meals: Once again, we are requesting volunteers to provide meals on Wednesday nights for our Confirmation youth. The full group is 7 youth and 1 adult. The sign-up sheet is posted outside the office. Thank you! 9

10 Giving Envelopes for 2017 are available to be picked up on the table outside of the library. A reminder that they have no numbers or names this year. Please add your name to any cash offerings so we can give you credit for the donation. Let the office know if you have any questions. Bread Bakers Needed to bake communion bread for our Sunday services. The recipe is fairly fail-proof, and one batch makes enough for 3-4 weeks. Sign up outside the office. See Candy for the recipe. Be Our Valentine? The Men s Club Annual Valentine s Dinner is Thursday, February 9 th at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased from any Men s Club member or in the office. Don t miss out on this Sir G s catered meal that includes dessert and entertainment! Please contact John Imsland, Bob Jalonen or Jim Haugen with questions.
