2 FROM THE PRESBYTER'S DESK Dearly Beloved in Christ, Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Redeemer Jesus Christ. This month we celebrate three important days- Choir Sunday, Family Sunday, & CSI Formation Day. You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. Desmond Tutu Family is a blessing of God to Humanity. It is instituted by God Himself as sign of the reign of God where one finds warmth, love, joy and forgiveness in plentitude. Earlier in our society we easily used to find a joint family system but now it is replaced on by a nuclear family. The joint family system used to be a great blessing to the members of that family because all were taken care equally like the aged, children, etc. The main advantage of joint family is that the older generation used to equip the younger generation to carry out the faith and family traditions, also used to impart the cultural and moral values, and also religious practices. That's why the Holy Bible says Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness Proverbs 16:31. As the generations are passing on, the respect, care and love for the older generations is gradually deteriorating that is the reason why the number of Old Age homes are increasing. As a Christian, it is our responsibility to care, love and respect the Older Generations. A good Christian family is one that lines up with biblical principles and one in which each member understands and fulfills his or her God-given role. So, on this family Sunday, let us come before the Lord in worship as a family with our thanksgiving for the countless blessings that we have received from Him. When the Church of South India (CSI) was inaugurated on 27th September 1947, it was acclaimed as the most significant event in the Church Union movement, because for the first time after centuries of historic divisions, churches with Episcopal and nonepiscopal ministries were brought together in a united Episcopal church. Four different church traditions had been brought together in the CSI, Anglican (Episcopal), Congregational, Presbyterian and Methodist. The CSI is a united and uniting church moving forward with a dynamic vision for The Communion of Churches in India. As a Christian, songs and singing are the integral part of our lives. From the beginning to the end, the Bible is full of music and songs, Jubal, is referred as the first musician in the Book of Genesis 4:1. As we turn the pages, we find many who follow in Jubal's musical footsteps. Moses sang a song of praise after the Exodus; Deborah sang after the victory over Sisera; King David played the harp, and wrote many of the Psalms; the Lord Jesus sang a hymn with his disciples at the last supper; Paul and Silas sang a hymn of praise to God in jail; and the book of Revelation tells us that there is plenty of singing in heaven as the heavenly choir joins in praise to God. It is referred in Hebrew 13:15, is that the sacrifice of praise that we offer to God when we sing to him is the fruit of our lips. Singing is the thankful response of the believer to the entire God's grace. Singing has to be a manifestation of the fullness of spirit. Singing depicts the spiritual state of the believer's life. So let us always come to His presence in Singing even in the midst of our worries, sickness, loss, failures, sufferings and tribulations. I request all the members of the Church to actively attend all the Church Activities, especially the Family Sunday along with your family. The total Offerings offered was Rs 4,41,150 from 90 persons. This means still many have abstained from taking part in the Tithe Offering and to them we request to do so without any further delay. Let s not be a debtor to the God who has showered his many blessings on us, abundantly." MISSION TO THE BLIND Mission to the Blind is a nationwide expression of God s love and concern for the visually challenged people in India. Bro. Chacko Joseph, Regional 6 7

5 Director of Pune, along with his team members had attended the Service on 14th August Bro. Chacko had delivered the Word of God on that day. He has requested our Parish for continued prayer and financial support for the physically challenged. Through your magnanimous offerings he could collect Rs. 12,750/- on that day. YOUTH ONE DAY RETREAT The 28th One Day Youth Conference was held on the 15th of August at the Trust Office, presided over by Rev Christy David Daniel. Mr. Benoy Mathews, Mr. Samkutty John and Mrs. Sheena Mathews supported event through their presence. The topic for meditation was Divergent: Going Against the Tide of Contemporary Culture. The Rev. Dr.Wilson Paluri, a faculty member from UBS, delivered the keynote address. Sixteen of our YF members enthusiastically participated. The conference started with the hoisting of the national flag by our presbyter Rev. Christy David Daniel, in the presence of the dignitaries and the youth members. Sweets were distributed as a part of the Independence Day celebration. The flag hoisting was followed by a lively praise and worship session led by Mr. Benjamin Ebenezer of UBS. After a short tea break, the session started, which was led by our guest speaker Rev. Dr. Wilson Paluri. The speaker stressed on the different vices and challenges a Christian youth faces in their day to day secular life. He enabled the youth to face such situations through the words in St. Paul s letter to the Ephesians 5: A Christian youth should seize this opportunity, understand Lord s will for him in this situation and use Christ s compelling love to overcome such situations. In the question answer session, the speaker cleared the several doubts and questions raised by the participants. In the post lunch slot, a praise and worship service was conducted, followed with the Presidential address. In the business session, future activities and plans were discussed and finalized. The outgoing VP conveyed his gratitude to the committee for its committed and dedicated services and wished the new committee all the best in the challenging year ahead. 6 The day ended with the lowering of the flag and the Committees handing and taking over ceremony. On behalf of the youth committee I thank Rev Christy David Daniel, Mr Benoy Mathews, Mr. Samkutty John and Mrs. Sheena Mathews for gracefully accepting our invitations and offering their support to us with their presence. I would also like to extend my thanks to the church committee for their support. A special thanks to our speaker Rev. Dr. Wilson Paluri for a meaningful and practical message. I would also like to thank Mr. Benjamin Ebenezer who led the joyous Praise and Worship sessions. Last but by no means the least; I thank every youth member who attended and everyone else who worked hard behind the scenes in the days leading up to the conference. Sabin John TEENAGER S MEET Teenagers meet was held at our Trust office at 10 am on 21st August 2016.The theme was In search of a meaningful life. The session began with an open prayer by Mr. Sonu Danny (UBS student). Introduction & felicitation of our guests on behalf of our Church & Sunday school was done by the secretary. For praise & worship we had 2 UBS 2nd year students, Mr. John Paul & Mr. Robin Mathew. We had a good strength of 26 students & all participated in praise & worship. Jessy Johnson took over the next session. She highlighted that each individual is special & God has a plan and purpose for one and all. Teenager s issues, the challenges they face, how to be open & positive were discussed. Each person has to surrender to God & keep praying according to Jer 33:3 before venturing any situation. In the present world misuse of mobile & internet, parties, freedom to do anything, sexual relations i.e. homosexuality etc are all sins. As a Christian we believe in salvation, so by always confessing our sins to our Lord and seeking forgiveness can only draw us closer to God. God knows each one of us the moment we were conceived, so always believe in Jesus & follow His path. Thank you Lata Johnson FAMILY WEEK As in the previous years, the Managing Committee has recommended celebrating the Family Week commencing Saturday 10/09 and closing with Holy Communion in All Saints Church on Sunday 18/09 with Lunch. All the family members should sit together and also receive the Holy Communion together. Please invite the married daughters along with their families to join our fellowship. If any guests are invited please inform the Vicar/ the Secretary as early as possible so that arrangements could be made. During the Week, area-wise fellowship dinner and talents display will be organized by each area groups.
