2 FROM THE PRESBYTER'S DESK Greetings to you in the matchless name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!! The first half of this year is just over. It is the time to give thanks to God Almighty, the sustainer and the provider for His blessings in our lives and also let us hope for a blessed year ahead. This month we are specially concentrating on the theme 'Ordained Ministry.' Ordination is the process by which individuals are consecrated, that is, set apart as clergy to perform various religious rites and ceremonies. One of our senior Pastors, Late Very Rev P. D. John, once said, Presbyters, you are like the Doctors who are serving in the Hospitals; your Cassock is the overcoat of the Doctor; your Bible is the stethoscope which is used to understand the heartbeat of the believers; the Sacraments you are celebrating are the medicines which give healing. Prayers and support of the members of the congregation are the back bone of the ministry of a Pastor. Come; Let us move together as a faith community to fulfill the will of God which has to be done through us. Today the most important thing for a society, Church and also for a family is the powerful and fervent prayer. The power of Satan is roaming around us; we cannot simply deny it and we need to overcome this evil power; for that we must have a strong faith in God and a prayerful life. May God almighty bless each one of us. For your kind attention... The Managing Committee recommends merging Bible Class with Cottage Prayer to strengthen fellowship, better attendance and wider participation. To meet this objective we urge each family to hold at least one cottage prayer in a year. This coming together is the time for Bible study, prayer and fellowship. Don't hesitate because of high food expenses. Limit the outgo with serving just tea and snacks. Even that is voluntary. If space is a constraint, consider holding the prayer meeting in the Trust Office. So, for a blessed family life, give an important space for cottage prayer. If you want to conduct cottage prayer on celebration days like Birthday, Wedding anniversary, Memorial, etc that too can be organized on request. Normally, assignments are given to those who have important dates like birth day and wedding anniversary during that particular month or near about date. In any case, have a close look at the TRUMPET to see if you have any task to do rather than wait for reminders. If expected to be absent or of any inability, please ensure you call up the Secretary ( ) or me. All such assignees (Reading, Kiss of Peace, Offertory and ) must be present at least 10 minutes before the worship begins. Choir members and those who handle the PA system are also requested to keep this timeline. Besides the Parsonage, you may meet me in the Trust office also on every Tuesday and Friday between10-12 noon. Please phone before you come to ensure my presence. Malayalam Classes To enable Sunday school children also to learn our mother tongue, Malayalam classes will henceforth be held on every first and third Saturday at 4.45 pm in the Trust Office. NIFYC The 12th North India Family & Youth Conference this year will be hosted by the C.S.I Industrial Mission, Bhilai during October 18-21, The Rev. Subin G. Thomas, Missionary in Charge, will visit us on August 5th seeking our greater physical and financial participation to make this bi-annual function a success. Please support this conference by including it in your Prayer List, by your attendance & a munificent donation. Union Youth Retreat and Competitions August 15, 9:00 am. This is a unique event, first of its kind, when all our Youth Fellowship members from both Mumbai and Pune will come together in Pune to develop a CSI regional youth fraternity. The venue and more detailed programme will be announced later. All Youth Fellowship members keep this date free to participate in this interesting event of YOU, for YOU and by YOU. Shalom Mission Field A few of you may know about Shalom Mission, which is a project of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese in Mumbai Region, for rehabilitation of women rescued from red light areas hailing from across India. This Mission has now five inmates and it functions from Vangani Village, Karjat on Kalyan-Panvel rail route. They are looked after and given also formal education and in house vocational training. Two inmates have already been rehabilitated, having moved out of the Home, and living on their own. The project is managed by the Kalyan Parish. 6 7

5 On Saturday, 23rd of June, an inaugural prayer meeting was held at the new place bought and renovated for Shalom Mission by Union of CSI Parishes in Mumbai-Pune Region. This fellowship, lasting about 3 hours, was attended by many members of the Union Parishes and was led by Rev. Samji K. Sam, Vicar of Parel & Director of Shalom Mission, Rev. Johncy Varghese, Vicar of Kalyan and Rev. Alex Abraham, Vicar of Pune. Our Parish was represented also by Mr. Jacob Zachariah and Mr. George Kurien. The Mission has a plan for acquiring a six acre plot in Mumbai- Nasik route adjacent to the plot owned by the Mar Thoma Church. The future plan is to lead regular prayer meetings at Vangani, on a Saturday by each of the member Parishes. Once started, our Parish will also have to sponsor a prayer meeting, may be once a quarter, with larger attendance and participation by our members. May our Lord grant all of us the strength to carry on this Mission work for the down trodden women and for the larger benefit of the Society. = George Kurien = WINNERS TAKE IT ALL!
