The disciples, some of whom as fishermen should have also been experienced sailors, were unable to cope with the situation around them. It wasn t until the situation seemed hopeless that the disciples decided to wake Jesus up. As you know, when Jesus woke up, he rebuked the storm that surrounded the disciples and the water became instantly calm. After the storm, Jesus asked the disciples why they were so afraid. Verse 41 says And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? It seems to me that they were afraid because they still didn t recognize who Jesus was. I wonder how often we are like the disciples in the boat. We are very ready to look at the storms of life around us and not as ready to recognize that the Creator of the Universe has promised to never leave us or forsake us. It is easy for us to see all of the obstacles to ministry and not very easy to remember that God who calls us to ministry will also equip us for that very ministry. I have to confess that it is easy for me to have peace and calm when the circumstances around me are going well and way too easy for me to doubt when the circumstances get a little stormy. But Jesus reminds us that he is still God even when there are storms about. He is still God when what we see doesn t appear to align with the promises of Scripture. So remember, that even the winds and the seas obey Jesus. Remember that circumstances don t hinder God s ability to be faithful. And remember Jesus will always keep his promise to never leave us or forsake us. Pastor Keith

5 Hello Everyone, There is so much in the works for children and youth and I could not be more thrilled! The Wednesday and Sunday evening programming has gotten off to a great start. I want to thank everyone who has volunteered their time and committed to being here on these nights. I pray that these programs will continue to grow. As a church we will be teaming with other churches to put on a fall festival on October 28th so look for upcoming information about that! As things get rolling I am beginning to look even further ahead. I am hoping to get a group of youth and children together to perform a skit for the 6:00 pm Christmas Eve service. I have been working to plan a trip to Winter Blitz for the youth January in Louisville, KY. More information will be given at a later date. I am also planning a summer mission for those that are high school age. For our summer mission, we will be traveling to St. Simons Island, Georgia to work with Epworth by the Sea, a ministry owned and operated by the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. We will be teaming up with the youth group from Sacramento UMC in Sacramento, KY for the trip. In order to raise money for these trips we will be having fundraisers so look for those coming soon! 6 My Church Family, I wanted to thank you all again for the wonderful school supplies that have been donated for the Costa Rican children. I wish that each one of you could see their faces when they receive these. The feeding program continues at Pital and Santa Fe. They are feeding about 75 children twice a week at these sites. God s hand at work using us. What a blessing! I am about 75 percent sure that we will be building a parsonage for the church at Santa Rosa la Palmaria. I also know from years of experience that may change. We also will be having VBS and ladies crafts, at several yet to be determined sites. The team has 45 members: 12 from our church, 25 from Crestwood UMC in Louisville and 8 from Maryland/Georgia. I know that God has great plans for us since we are blessed with such a large team. The dates are February 2-10, Will you please pray for us as we are working for Our Lord. I will put a team list in the November newsletter. The team will be having another lunch on November 4, 2018 featuring Larry Kirkpatrick s famous, delicious pulled pork along with all the sides and desserts. This will be by donations only. All the money will be used for team supplies to further God s work through the mission team. The lunch will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Please come and join us for lunch and fellowship.
