1 To Our Guests We re glad you re here! You may be new in the Shoals area and Woodmont Baptist or a regular, but don t feel alone. We frequently have many guests in our services, and we find many have questions about church membership. That s great, because we have some answers! When do I join? At the close of every service a song is sung and the pastor stands facing the congregation. Walk to the front at this time and the pastor will meet you. Attendance in the Membership Information Class (MIC) or Children s Information (CHIC) is required for membership. MIC is taught regularly by our Pastor. Attendance at the class may be before or after you walk to the front to unite with our church. When do you have baptism? Baptism is usually arranged a few weeks after coming forward in a service. May I be a Sunday class member and not a church member? Of course. Some are. Our Sunday morning classes are called Bible Study Connection classes. These help you connect to God, to His Word, and each other! This is not church membership, but is an excellent way to get to know some of the Woodmont Folks and more about our church. Are there different ways to join? Yes. (1) By professing faith in Jesus Christ and following Him in water baptism. (2) By transferring your letter from another Southern Baptist Church. (3) By your statement of faith in Christ, that is your conversion experience and baptism by immersion after salvation. If I have other questions, is there someone with whom I can talk? Certainly. Our pastor and staff would love to share with you more about our church and ministries. Often, of course, you can get a lot of information from a friend who is already a member. Beginning Sunday, March 4 5:15 p.m. in Room B-106 Larry Miller - Teacher Basic outline and subject matter. This class will help you understand the Old Testament to give you the Big Picture of God s Plan. As you read and study the individual stories then you will realize the bigger purpose behind the story. Seeing the big picture will give you a Frame Work of knowledge that will be a foundation for further study and understanding. This Frame Work will consist of: 1. The study of the land in which the stories unfold. 2. A study of the Seven Major Movements of the people God used in fulfilling His purpose. And the reasons for these movements. 3. To know the main people and people groups God used to fulfill His purpose. 4. Understand the Books of the Prophets and where each tie into the Big Picture. 5. Understand the order of the Old Testament, this will help you recognize the continuous story line. Understand that eleven books of the Old Testament contain 95% of the Old Testament narrative. 6. Understand the Major Events in the ongoing story line. 7. Three major book groupings in the Old Testament mentioned in the New Testament. 8. Three major groupings according to content. 9. To see how the ongoing stories in the Old Testament is God s way of revealing Himself to a fallen and sinful world. The Study Guide, The Old Testament Made Simple, by Melton Short will be used. 3 Bible Study Connections Updates New Young Adult Wing to Open Sunday, February 25 Adult Bible Study Connection classrooms will be re-locating to the new Young Adult Wing on Sunday, February 25. The new adult classrooms are located where the old nursery/preschool rooms were located near the welcome center and elevator. Last year the nursery classes were moved downstairs to place all our preschool and children s classes on the ground floor. Virginia Moore New Young Adult Bible Study Connections Class beginning Sunday, February 25 This new class will meet in room C-102 at 9:00 AM on February 25 in the new Young Adult Wing near the gym and welcome center. This class is for young married and single adults and will be taught by our pastor, Chad Hess along with Faith Carpenter. This class will utilize as a curriculum the book Foundations - A Bible Study Reading Plan for Busy Believers by Robby and Kandi Gallaty. This new class will challenge participants to dig deep into the Word throughout the week. The book and study features a Bible reading plan focused on teaching believers how to study the Word for themselves and highlights foundational passages every believer should know. Each week, the class will focus on one chapter from the weekly reading and utilize the journaling method HEAR Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond. Through this format, everyone will be able to participate by discussing what they learned from that passage. If you are a young adult and not currently attending a Sunday morning Bible study class and are ready to grow in your walk with the Lord, come check this class out. NEW BUS OFFERING Over the next several weeks we are taking a special offering for a new bus. Woodmont currently has $53, in the bus fund. A new bus will cost $60,100. We need to raise $6, for us to purchase a new 15 passenger bus for our ministry needs this spring and summer. At a recent business meeting the transportation committee recommended that the passenger bus and the passenger bus be donated to two Shoals area churches that are in need of buses for local use. They are small churches and cannot afford to buy them. Before we can give the 15 passenger bus away, we need to have our new one purchased. This is a great opportunity for us to bless two sister churches and to provide for our own transportation needs. Please designate your offering to New Bus Fund. 6 Sermon Notes - 10:15 a.m. Sermon Notes - 6:30 p.m. Guest Speaker: Michael Bozeman Michael Bozeman graduated from Jacksonville State University with a BS in Marketing. He also holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and holds a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Michael is a licensed and ordained pastor, and came to Pathways after serving for over a decade in the local church ministering to students. His love for The Lord and people are the driving force behind his desire to be a counselor. Michael s experience in ministry gives him a unique opportunity to incorporate a Christ-centered approach to counseling. Guest Speaker: Brian Denton Brian Denton served as Student Minister at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church from August of 2012 until December of He is a native of the Shoals area. He and his wife, Jennifer, have 3 children. He came to know Christ as his personal savior at the age of 9, and his favorite Bible verse is Acts 20:24, However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me the task of testifying to the good news of God s grace. Brian has a desire to encourage others and make much of Jesus.
