1 The Monthly Messenger A Note From The Pastor... Last year the song lyrics, Summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime were on my mind when July arrived. This year for some reason the vision of Olaf singing In Summer has replaced those lyrics. Olaf is sooo excited to experience something new that he has never experienced before However, he has no idea of how it could affect him. He has preconceived notions of what he thinks it will be like. Kristoff poses the question, Really? I m guessing you don t have much experience with heat. Olaf s reply is, Nope! But sometimes I like to close my eyes and imagine what it ll be like when summer does come. In a world filled turmoil and strife, it is tempting to close our eyes and imagine what it would be like if the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was shown by everyone. If we shined like the Son in a world filled with darkness and pain. The truth is we can but it s not always easy We do have freedom in Christ Jesus to follow His command to love one another even our enemies It s a choice we must choose to make in order for the turmoil, strife, darkness, conflict and pain to cease. Sooo, you see the answer to love God and others is simple. However, carrying it out can be difficult. Jesus never said it would be easy on our own. Dalton United Methodist Church JULY 2018 He did say His yoke is easy and His burden is light because He alone can provide us with the necessary love required to enable us to love others as He has loved us. God Bless, Pastor Dave

6 News from the United Methodist Women There is going to be a fun evening for the whole family, at Ed, Sharon and Scott s home on Sunday, July 22 at 4:00pm. The address is: 5008 SHREVE ROAD, WOOSTER. The evening is going to filled with special ice creams made by Ed. He wouldn t tell me the flavors, but I m sure they will be really good! If you have an ice cream freezer and you would like to help by bringing a batch, give him a call at # Hope you can come and just like it is said in that old time advertisement, We ll leave the light on for you. I had no idea what to write about this month until the new Reader s Digest came in the mail. I was just leafing through the book when an article caught my eye. It is titled Billy Graham s 6 Rules of Living. In his book The Journey, he wrote about his principles for living and in 2007 he expounded on them for Reader s Digest. 1. Make it your goal to live at peace with others. Is it possible to do this with everyone in our lives? Unfortunately, no; even our best efforts may not change another person s attitude. The key is to ask God if we re at fault, and if so, to confess it and seek his help overcome it. Life is temporary and fleeting. We re here for just a short time. We shouldn t waste our days but live them for God s glory. 2. Avoid revenge. Don t be a captive of the past. If someone has harmed us by breaking the law, we have the right to bring that person to justice, both for our good and the good of society. But hurting someone only because they have hurt us is another matter. We can t change the past; we can only seek God s forgiveness for whatever it is we did wrong. 3. Guard your tongue. Use it for good instead of evil. How many marriages and friendships have been destroyed because of criticism that has spun out of control? But the tongue can also be used for good; that should be our goal. When people ask me for advice about their personal problems, which they often do, I always try to give them an answer based on the Bible. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. 4. Never repay evil with evil. Evil is sin; it s a deadly cancer that has invaded our souls. It isn t just an illusion or an absence of good. Ultimately, all evil comes from Satan, according to the Bible. Satan is real, and he is absolutely opposed to God. Still, we are responsible for our own actions. Why some people repeatedly choose to do evil instead of good is a puzzle to me, because evil eventually destroys those who practice it. Only God can replace the evil and sin in our hearts with love and kindness. Page 6 The Monthly Messenger
7 5. Treat others as you d want them to treat you. This simple but profound principle- the Golden Rule- comes from Jesus Sermon on the Mount. How different our lives would be if we actually practiced this! The Bible also tells us, With humility comes wisdom. Every day I realize I m just a sinner like everyone else, and I have been forgiven only because of God s grace. 6. Practice the power of forgiveness. I adhere to the philosophy of hating the sin but loving the sinner. The key is to realize that this is the way God sees us. When we sin, it s as if we re shaking our fists in Gold s face, telling him we know better than he does how to run our lives. But God also hates sin because he loves us, and he knows what sin does to us. Billy Graham was quite a wise person who truly believed in God. May God bless you all and hope to see you at the ice cream social, Beth Johnson UMW Newsletter Contributor The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear?
