1 WELLINGTON CHURCH SUNDAY, 28TH OCTOBER 2018 Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God. (Romans 15:7) We welcome into the life and worship of our congregation all people whatever their ethnic origin, gender, background, age, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability. We affirm our diversity and the dignity of each person. Love one another, as I have loved you. (John 15:12) Living Differently Only after the last tree has been cut down Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then will you find that Money cannot be eaten. Opening Voluntary: Cornet Voluntary in G Introit: Behold God is my salvation Eric Thiman Welcome and Notices Opening Responses: We have one God without whom nothing exists We have one faith that the world might be as one We are one body Christ s body here on earth (Cree Indian Prophecy) Maurice Greene We are one family the human family Let us as one church sing God s praises with one heart, one mind, one soul, For God s sake That the world might be one. Amen

2 Hymn 122 Let all the world Prayer of Approach Prayer of the Day (said together): Excluded God, who even in birth found no room at the inn. Help us to include all those trapped in-between treated as strangers ignored as other. Help us to recognise that by including them we are including you. Amen Responsive Psalm 65:8-13 Happy are they whom you choose to dwell in your courts. You visit the earth and water it; you make it very plenteous. The river of God is full of water; you prepare grain for your people, for so you provide for the earth. Happy are they whom you choose to dwell in your courts. You drench the furrows and smooth out the ridges; you soften the ground with showers and bless its increase. You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths overflow with plenty. Happy are they whom you choose to dwell in your courts. May the pastures of the wilderness flow with goodness and the hills be girded with joy. May the meadows be clothed with flocks of sheep and the valleys stand so thick with corn that they shall laugh and sing. Happy are they whom you choose to dwell in your courts. Drama : Planet Earth Video clip: One World Week Song 2

3 James My brothers and sisters, do you with your acts of favouritism really believe in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ? For if a person with gold rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and if a poor person in dirty clothes also comes in, and if you take notice of the one wearing the fine clothes and say, Have a seat here, please, while to the one who is poor you say, Stand there, or, Sit at my feet, have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who love him? But you have dishonoured the poor. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court? Is it not they who blaspheme the excellent name that was invoked over you? You do well if you really fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. Hymn 259 Beauty for brokenness Reflection: Are we partial? Anthem: Here, O my Lord Alan Viner Here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face; here will I touch and handle things unseen, here, grasp with firmer hand the eternal grace, and all my weariness upon thee lean. Here would I feed upon the bread of God, here drink with thee the royal wine of heaven, here would I lay aside each earthly load, and taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven. Here, O my Lord, here, O my Lord, I see thee face to face. Hymn 543 Longing for light Offering and Intercessory Prayers: (the offering is presented) Response: Help us to live differently 3

4 Invitation to Communion Hymn: 658 Before I take the body of my Lord The Lord s Prayer: The Peace: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. May God, who watches the world with us, grant peace in our hearts and hope in our lives, that we may be at peace with one another. We offer one another the sign of peace We share bread and wine We share our resources in an offering for the Well Multicultural Centre in Govanhill, a place where no one is a stranger twice it s a place where friendships are made and relationships are built. Coming into The Well is like coming into someone s home. The vast majority of people come for help of one form or another, but many also come simply for a chat or to read the newspaper. All are offered a cup of tea, all are treated with respect. Hymn 673 Let us talents and tongues employ Benediction Hymn 795: Take, oh, take me as I am; summon out what I shall be; set your seal upon my heart and live in me. Closing Voluntary: Grand March in D F Mendelssohn Organist: Alan Kitchen 4
