1 St. Anna Greek Church 3015 E. Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT th Sunday of October 22, 2017 Orthros: 9:15 a.m. Divine : 10:15 a.m. Reverend Father Anthony Savas Reverend Deacon Anatoli Kireiev stannagocutah.org franthony@stannagocutah.org Epistle Reading: St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 1:11-19 Prokeimenon. Mode 3. Psalm 46.6,1 Sing praises to our God, sing praises. Verse: Clap your hands, all you nations. Brethren, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and remained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother. Gospel Reading: The Gospel According to 8:26-39 At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me. For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.

2 (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, What is your name? And he said, Legion ; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you. And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. Resurrectional Apolytikion Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad, for the Lord has shown the mighty power of His arm. He has trampled down death by death, becoming the firstborn of the dead. He has delivered us from the depths of hell and has granted to all the world His great mercy. ( Book page 107) Entrance Hymn Come, let us worship and bow down before Christ. Save us, O Son of God, who rose from the dead, save us who sing to You, Alleluia. ( Book page 37) Hymn for the Hierarch The actual facts of your life manifested you to your flock as a rule of faith and an icon of gentleness and a teacher of self-control. By humility, therefore, you acquired the things on high, and riches through poverty. Father holy hierarch Averkios, intercede with Christ our God, entreating Him to save our souls. Hymn for the Martyrs Your Martyrs, O Lord, were worthily awarded by You the crowns of incorruption, in that they contested for You our immortal God. Since they possessed Your power, they defeated the tyrants, dashing the demons' powerless displays of defiance. O Christ God, at their fervent entreaties, save our souls. Hymn for the Church O God-minded Anna, you bore the pure Mother of God, the one who within her conceived the Conceiver of life itself. You were therefore transported to a place now in heaven. Joyful ones all reside there in the home of all gladness, asking for forgiveness for those who honor you, O blessed one. Kontakion O unfailing protection of Christians, and our faithful advocate before the Creator: though we are sinners, do not ignore our entreaty; but in your goodness, grant your timely help to us who appeal to you in faith. Quickly make intercession; on our behalf make speedy supplication, O Theotokos, for you always protect those who honor you. ( Book 225) Megalynarion (Hymn for the Theotokos) It is truly right to call you blessed, O Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure and the mother, the mother of our God. More honorable that the cherubim, and more glorious beyond compare than the seraphim. In virginity you gave birth to God, to God the Word. Truly the Theotokos, we magnify you, we magnify you. ( Book page 69) Communion Hymn Psalm 148 Praise the Lord, praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him, praise Him in the highest. (3) ( Book page 83)

STEWARDSHIP Thank you to the generous Stewards of St. Anna Greek Church. We as parish leadership, clergy and your Stewardship Ministry Team, wish to express our appreciation for your sincere and generous support of our God-loving and Christ-centered parish. As the end of the year draws near, please review your records to ensure that you have met your stewardship commitment. If you have any questions regarding the status of your commitment or wish to make payment arrangements, please contact Parish Council Treasurer Nick Daskalas at treasurer@stannagocutah.org or Stewardship payments can be made online at stannagocutah.org/?page_id=2666. Please note that a stewardship commitment card does not create a legal obligation, but is rather a commitment of faith. If you are already giving to the Parish but have not completed a stewardship commitment card, please do so. Having the completed card allows us to maintain an up to date and accurate roster of the parish membership and assists us greatly in preparing and tracking against our annual budgets. Visit stannagocutah.org/?page_id=21 to obtain a Stewardship card online. We thank you for your commitments and yet, still remind you that true and sincere Stewardship is the gifting back to the Lord, that which He has already given us. Let us never become complacent in our giving; for when that happens in our communities, the Light of Christ burns less vibrantly in the hearts of the faithful. God bless

4 you always and again, thank you for your sacrificial and wellpleasing hearts. God loves a cheerful giver! St. Anna Pilgrimage to the Holy Land and Asia Minor: More than a few people have inquired about St. Anna's embarking on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Fr. Anthony would like to announce that tentative plans have been established for a St. Anna trip to Constantinople, Jerusalem, Galilee, Jericho and Cappadocia from May 12-26, There is no need for firm commitments or deposits at this point (costs have not yet been established due to several factors, including airfare and the number of participants) but we need to get an idea of who would be interested in going. The sights are otherworldly; the accommodations will be upper end; the guides, together with Fr. Anthony, will lead informative and spiritually relevant discussions; and we will celebrate the Divine at the Tomb of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please contact Fr. Anthony at franthony@stannagocutah.org if you are interested in pursuing further information.
