1 GLORY OF HRIST LUTHERAN HURH Missouri Synod The Fifteenth Sunday After Pentecost September 6, 2015 hurch Office: Welcome all in the name of Jesus, especially those who are worshiping for the first time with us. Please sign our guest book (make sure to indicate if you would like the Pastor to visit) and accept our invitation to worship with us again. Who should commune at the Altar of Glory of hrist Lutheran hurch? According to the Scriptures and the onfessional statements of the church only those should commune who have been examined and absolved by the pastor. If you wish to commune at Glory of hrist for the first time, please talk to the Pastor before doing so. Holy ommunion is the most intimate expression of hristian fellowship and it is important to the members of Glory of hrist Lutheran hurch that all who commune have a common understanding and commitment to the Gospel teachings of the Bible.

4 At Glory of hrist the pastor typically makes announcements after the service. So the service just starts at the appropriate time without a specific welcome. (The welcome actually occurs in the service itself when the pastor says The Lord be with you and the congregation responds.) To follow the service you should turn to the page indicated at the top of your bulletin insert. This week the page is 184. Usually we simply work through the service interrupting the process for the singing of hymns, certain prayers and the scripture readings. The prayers are usually printed in the service folder as are the Scripture readings. Hymns are found in the latter half of the Service book. If you are having trouble following the service you can ask someone nearby and they will help you. You can also comfort yourself with the knowledge that almost everyone has a little trouble following the service the first time through. It gets easier. Worship Notes Sunday of the Passion Scraps and hildren Jesus has just finished pointing out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders, and you would think that he would have a little more compassion for this poor woman, even if she is a foreigner. But she is still a foreigner, a Gentile dog who did not properly belong to the people of God. After all, Jesus comes to save his people from their sins. But this woman knows that she has no claim to be one of God's people. She has no pure lineage, no holy track record, nothing. So this nothing of a woman doesn't even dare to even ask to sit at the table with the children (Israel), but she was wondering if the Lord would be so gracious as to let her take some of the scraps that fall to floor. But Jesus gives her more than scraps. He treats her like one of the children at the table, for none of the children deserve to be there, and she knows that better than anyone. And she returns to find that her daughter has been healed. 5 SERVIE OF THE WORD INTROIT Ps. 28:1 2, 6 7; antiphon: Ps. 28: :8 The LORD is the strength of his people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- nointed. To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me,* lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help,* when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctu- ary. Blessèd be the LORD!* for he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;* my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the be- ginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. The LORD is the strength of his people;* he is the saving refuge of his a- nointed. KYRIE page 186 GLORIA IN EXELSIS page 187 SALUTATION page 189 OLLET O Lord, let Your merciful ears be open to the prayers of Your humble servants and grant that what they ask may be in accord with Your gracious will; throughh Jesus hrist, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 35:4 7a 4 Say to those who have an anxious heart,, Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you. 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped;

6 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. A This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. EPISTLE James 2:1 10, My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus hrist, the Lord of glory. 2 For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3 and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, You sit here in a good place, while you say to the poor man, You stand over there, or, Sit down at my feet, 4 have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called? 8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? an that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, You have faith and I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. A This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. ALLELUIA and VERSE page 190 HOLY GOSPEL Mark 7:31 37 P The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the seventh chapter. Glory be to Thee, O Lord. 31 Then he returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32 And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged him to lay his hand on him. 33 And taking him aside from the crowd privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36 And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. 37 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.
