HOLY COMMUNION We welcome all confirmed members of the Anglican Church and visitors who are communicant members of other churches to share in the Holy Communion with us. Our practice is to have the Holy Communion by intinction (dipping of the wafer into the wine). If you are not partaking of the Communion, you are welcome to come forward to receive a prayer of blessing. Please keep your hands clasped to indicate that you are not receiving the Communion. CAR PARKING As there are limited parking lots within St Andrew s Cathedral, members may wish to park at carparks in close proximity to the Cathedral. Visitors who worship with us and park their cars in the Cathedral can collect a free pass from the Information Desk or from the Welcome Centre. 2 THE VICAR WRITES A TIME FOR EVERY MATTER For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 don't remember missing an AGM ever I since I joined a church when I was 13. It is just a sense of responsibility and how I saw my church as a family. In fact, if you are not a legal member but one in heart, you are most welcome to join in. I have prepared a separate message from that written in the report which has more the future in mind. I sense we are at an exciting season of opportunity and that this generation of SAC members is being led by the Lord for a new season of witness and ministry. The present is never better than the past. It is just different. When CNS was built, we had the wonderful visitors welcome centre. Many knew then that it would be nice to have a proper Cafe there but it just wasn t time for it. Perhaps URA wasn t ready then to consider a cafe on church land. Perhaps we did not have a suitable cafe team yet, or that the leadership then was not called or equipped to manage something like that. They did accomplish many significant things, just that the cafe wasn t one of them. I am just using the cafe as an illustration of what could be true across the board. I could also use the bells as an example. When the time is right, the Lord will allow us to deal with the issue. And every generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before. Our work is evolutionary, not revolutionary. The history of the Cathedral is not 200 years. It is a 2,000 years' worth of history between the cross-shaped death instrument which our Lord Jesus laid on and our cross-shaped building which we are sitting in. So much has happened in 2 between as the gospel traversed through different cultures in time. It is now for us to seek the Lord and be imbued with a wisdom to know how to serve God in our generation. The Cathedral has a deep and unique calling. It goes beyond the beautiful building and locale. We embrace all that the Anglican Church is called to be in our part of the world and for the wider Communion. Due to our colonial past (and I dare say, foundation), we are inextricably bound to the political life of the nation. At times, we have to play our role as a member church of the Body of Christ. Our theology, practices and ministry heritage is varied, complex and rich. On one hand, as a part of the One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, we share in what the Catholic Church stands for in time and space. And yet, we have our own emphases which help keep parts of our Church's heritage alive. There is so much that the Cathedral can unearth. That the Cathedral is a wonderful place for seniors is obvious. Perhaps less obvious is the fact that she is also wonderful for people from every season in life. If I am a young adult (I am not, though sometimes I feel like one!), I think it is very exciting to see how I can grow in this place and the contributions I can make. There is a unique potential in some areas of our Cathedral life which I sense will be tapped in this season. If everyone - young and old - participates, I believe that together with each other and the Lord, there is much we can be and do for His glory. We will continue our conversation at AGM. 3 PRAYER HIGHLIGHTS WORLD Turkey Pray for peace, freedom and economic stability in Turkey. Pray for President Erdogan and his government - that they rule in righteousness and justice. Pray for God to grant them wisdom and compassion to resolve ethnic conflicts, seek the welfare of refugees and build relations with neighbouring countries. Lift up believers in Turkey under tremendous pressure for their faith ask the Lord to protect, strengthen and encourage them as they press on to spread the love of Christ. Pray for our brothers and sisters in prison - for God s manifest presence, comfort and supernatural deliverance. SINGAPORE Pray for Minister for Health, Mr. Gan Kim Yong and our healthcare professionals, as they raise public awareness, formulate policies and put in place systems, to tackle dementia and other medical issues confronting our ageing population. Pray that God will continue to bless His Church in Singapore with skilled manpower and necessary resources, to support our government leaders in caring for the needs of the people in Singapore. Pray that God s love will shine through us and bring hope to those in despair. DIOCESE Theological Education Board Pray for Director of Lay Training Canon Terry Wong and the Convenors of the 5 Training Tracks, Revd Dr. Ivan Ee, Revd William Chee, Revd Jonathan Wong, Revd Joseph Goh and Canon Titus Chung, that God will give them divine wisdom as they discern, plan and organise the training needs of the Diocese, to nourish the saints and equip them for the Lord s work. St Peter s Hall Pray for Warden Revd Joseph Goh and Sub- Wardens Canon Dr. Michael Pooh and Canon Mervyn Moore in their ongoing ministry to seminarians and church leaders, that God will use them and richly resource them, to provide for the needs of those He has entrusted to their care. CATHEDRAL Medical Missions to Batam and Tanjong Pinang (12-13 May) Pray that the Lord will watch over the 90 volunteers who will be going to Batam and Tanjong Pinang on medical missions, grant them safe travel and make them channels of His love and blessing, as they care for the medical needs of the villagers. Filipino Service Thank God for the faithful ministry of Ps Joyce Carino and her leadership team, to our Filipino brothers, sisters and others. Pray that our Filipino family will grow from strength to strength and they will be a community marked by love for one another, vibrant worship, devotion to God and fruitfulness in service. COLLECT Philip and James, Apostles Almighty Father, whom truly to know is eternal life: teach us to know your Son Jesus Christ as the way, the truth, and the life; that we may follow the steps of your holy apostles Philip and James, and walk steadfastly in the way that leads to your glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 7 BATAM MEDICAL OUTREACH The Batam Medical Outreach is a regular medical outreach work of the St. Andrew s Cathedral Healthcare Fellowship. Each mission extends over a weekend and comprises 4 teams which serve 4 different locations. While this is a medical mission, there are many opportunities for service for non-medical persons as well. The cost per person is $100 ($80 for day-trippers) and includes all meals, 2-way ferry, hotel accommodation, travel insurance, and land transport. Do register early. MOBILE MEDICAL SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY (MOFOW) This mobile medical mission provides free healthcare and health screening to : The migrant workers living in residential dormitories The elderly living in the 1-room HDB estates. It only requires about 4-5 hours of your time on a Saturday evening or morning. Non-medical volunteers also welcome. In 2018, the mission dates are: 19 May, 23 Jun, 14 Jul, 18 Aug, 15 Sep, 13 Oct, & 10 Nov. This ministry will start from mid-may, and will take place from 1pm-3pm each Sunday. Volunteers can serve weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
