HOLY COMMUNION We welcome all confirmed members of the Anglican Church and visitors who are communicant members of other churches to share in the Holy Communion with us. Our practice is to have the Holy Communion by intinction (dipping of the wafer into the wine). If you are not partaking of the Communion, you are welcome to come forward to receive a prayer of blessing. Please keep your hands clasped to indicate that you are not receiving the Communion. CAR PARKING There are very limited carpark lots available within the Cathedral. Members and visitors are encouraged to park at the surrounding carparks on Sunday - The Adelphi, ($3.21 per entry), Capitol Piazza, ($2 per hr. for first 2 hrs), Raffles City ($2.20 per hr for first 2 hrs), and National Gallery ($1.30 per 30 mins). 2 THE VICAR WRITES few months ago, we made an A appeal at a Town Hall meeting for volunteers to serve in our English teaching class for Myanmar folks on Sunday. A few responded and as a result, the classes today have multiplied. A new befriender ministry has also started with walkabouts to chat and reach out to the foreigners on our grounds. One of our staff proposed to the Myanmar Worship Service (MWS) leaders to move the postservice refreshments to the tented area near the Nave. This brought them closer to the grounds. All in all, the response has been good and on recent weekends, the MWS is almost reaching 200 in attendance. We have also received various feedback and suggestions and we can say that on a whole, we are getting closer to a good balance of outreach and boundaries. I met up with Revd Dickson Chiu this week, who serves as our chaplain for Cathedral Home for the Aged. This is, literally, a ministry for the homeless. For various reasons, they are not able to have their own roof over their heads. Such are 'need' gaps which the church needs to continue to fill. There are many volunteers who are serving and visiting. That is really appreciated. But more help can be given to reach them spiritually and socially. Perhaps some of you can consider helping? We have an active Heritage Committee. Cathedral is blessed with many points of interest, physical and historical. It is our way of blessing our wider society by being good custodians of our heritage. Along with that, precious opportunities to share the Christian message. In fact, a mini exhibition of the Cathedral in the War Years will be held in August. Much work needs to be YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE 2 done: research, archiving, writing etc. Can you help? Some of us may be unaware that Cathedral is also running a Childcare Centre in Jurong. The pre-school landscape has gone through massive changes. It is currently below capacity in spite of the low fees. In a new season, how may we strengthen this work? Can you help? Acts Centre is our church plant, led by Revd Michael Lim. They have been facing some challenges as well. But the opportunities are there, as they are worshipping in the midst of a growing neighbourhood. Being a small congregation, their resources are limited. They need help in various areas including worship etc. In this new season, we are stepping up our efforts to help them grow into an independent congregation or parish one day. I cannot imagine how SAC can start a new church plant if our current ones are struggling. Can you help? The list goes on, on the various ways you can make a difference. I leave the rest to another Vicar Writes. A little here, a little there, but together, the accretion swell of energy and time (=love!) will make a lasting difference. That said, one of the most significant differences we can make as Christians is to pray. When we pray, we become alive to God s purposes. We become more aware of His will that needs to be "done on earth as it is in heaven. Every night from 1 July to 8 August, there is a "solemn assembly - a worship and prayer gathering - in various churches across the city. No skill is needed. Just a lot of heart and love. 3 PRAYER HIGHLIGHTS WORLD Libya Libya remains in a state of anarchy and civil war, seven years after the fall of its dictator. Pray for the success of international efforts to resolve the lingering political stalemate. Libya has also become a gateway to Europe for refugees from all over Africa. Pray for the dissolution of smuggling networks that control the coastline, charge exorbitant sums of money and send these refugees on treacherous journeys. Pray for God s strength and protection over the Libyan church under violent and intense persecution. Pray that the gospel would continue to reach many in Libya through satellite and web broadcasts. Pray that the translation of God s Word into Libyan Arabic will continue unhindered. SINGAPORE Solemn Assemblies (1 July 7 August) Pray for the Holy Spirit to fill Cornerstone Community Church, Victory Family Centre, Bethesda Bedok-Tampines Church, and Covenant Evangelical Free Church as God s people gather to fast and pray for our nation; for God s revelation to be released through the operation of His gifts; for deep conviction, humility and contrition as we repent of our sins and cry out to God for His divine intervention and mighty revival that will transform this nation. DIOCESE God s Mighty Visitation Pray for every member in our Diocese to sense the urgency of the times, to know God s agenda for His Church and for this nation, that we will press in to lay hold of our calling and our destiny and be ready for God s mighty visitation upon our land in revival. Pray also for our Bishop, Assistant Bishop, Archdeacons, Diocesan Boards, officers and staff to unite around God s mandate for the Diocese and to move in tandem with His purposes, under His divine anointing and empowering. CATHEDRAL CITY Community Services Thank God for the ministry of CITY Community Services which aims to develop Character in the Young. Pray that our Befrienders Clubs and Student Care will provide excellent avenues for the building of strong, mentoring relationships. Pray that through the godly counsel of our ministry teams, the young people will cultivate right values and be empowered to make right choices in their lives. Pray also for the CITY Family Carnival on 7 July (theme: Every One A Gem! ) as CITY celebrates 11 years of community outreach, that the carnival will provide a wonderful opportunity for the children of our Befrienders Clubs and Student Care to bond with their families. Diocesan Certificate of Biblical Studies Module 14 The Book of Revelation (5 July 2018) Thank God for the good response to this course. Pray for the two instructors, the Vicar and Pastor Stanley Tay, that they will impart God s word with clarity and depth of insight. Pray also that those who hear the Word, will understand the times and the seasons, and be stirred to prepare for Christ s second coming. 3 JULY COLLECT FOR THOMAS THE APOSTLE Almighty and eternal God, who, for the firmer foundation of our faith, allowed your holy apostle Thomas to doubt the resurrection of your Son till word and sight convinced him: grant to us, who have not seen, that we also may believe and so confess Christ as our Lord and our God; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
