THE HEART OF OUR WORSHIP Week 4: The Holy Communion Liturgy, Part 2
TWO GOALS 1) To help us better connect head and heart. 2) To tune our ears to hear the gospel in worship.
THEOLOGY The central question being asked in the Reformation: How are people changed? By a work of God in the heart. And how does God do this work? Through His Word, particularly in the gospel.
THEOLOGY The driving force behind the Reformation, and therefore the driving force behind a Reformation understanding of worship can be summarized in this statement: THE WORD OF GOD BIRTHS FAITH
GOD WORD FAITH US
HEART Unleashing the Word of God to convert the heart through the power of the gospel.

WORSHIP BASED ON THE GOSPEL Because the gospel was at the heart of any true power in worship, the Reformers were concerned to promote two things as they formulated the Prayer Book: 1) A gospel-based structure over against a merit-based structure. 2) Avoidance of worship words, practices, and rituals which distracted from the clarity of the gospel s voice.
