1 Office for Human Dignity & Solidarity Immigration Ministry Las Posadas offers an opportunity to reflect on the story of the Holy Family searching for shelter that is part of the journey of immigrants today seeking legislative shelter through compassionate comprehensive immigration reform. Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago celebrate this uniquely Mexican tradition in different ways. We are inviting parishes to pray for immigration reform as they celebrate Posadas. This year, we ask that parishes particularly pray for DREAMers and for Congress to pass the DREAM Act. Just as Mary and Joseph did not know when, where or who would give them shelter, we do not know when undocumented immigrants will have legislative shelter. This year marks the 12th year that undocumented immigrants seek legislative shelter Posada. We are people of faith who are called to seek God s light during times of darkness. Let us join immigrants in the search for light and justice. See below for dates and times to join in this journey of hope and experience this rich celebration of joy, Las Posadas, in the coming of Christ into our lives and our society. Amen. God of mercy and compassion, as we prepare ourselves with Posadas to celebrate the birth of your son Jesus in our humanity, help us open up our hearts when you are present and real in our immigrant brothers and sisters. That we don t shut the doors on those who walk alone when their families have been deported. That we don t shut the doors of compassion on those who are tired from journeying and yearning for justice. That we don t shut the doors on those who bother asking us to talk with legislators to change immigration laws. Give us your light and help so that we joyfully welcome our migrant brothers and sisters, not only at Christmas but every time you knock the door of our lives asking for posada as a foretaste of eternal joy when the doors of your kingdom open for us too. Amen. Posada Prayer 2017 May this prayer light your way this Advent season Por favor, utilice esta oración durante el tiempo de Adviento o durante las Posadas. Please use these prayers at your Parish during the Advent season. You may choose to distribute them amongst your members, put them in your Parish bulletin or liturgical program, read the prayer during your gatherings, or set time aside during the liturgy to read them. Have a wonderful and blessed Advent season! Office of Human Dignity & Solidarity Immigration Ministry esegura@archchicago.org (312)
