3 .Church and Narthex Improvements Coming Our Pastoral Council pointed out at its last meeting that one of the reasons for the building of the Narthex was to get the noise out of the church so people could pray. So we are going to relocate our Ministries sign-up from the back of church and into the Narthex in the near future. We will also eventually move the bar out, giving us more space and eliminating the bottleneck by the doors going into the church. The Narthex needs help, too. When I arrived here I was very conscious of how sound bleeds from there into the church. I learned to tune it out. But then someone who came to see me said they d love to join our parish but it s too loud meaning the Narthex. And so I called in Steve Olsen, a local sound engineer, to make suggestions on how we could decrease the volume. He recommended acoustic panels in strategic locations, and the use of banners to further cut down the echo. I called our resident Good Taste Committee (my name for them, not theirs) to decide what colors should be used for the acoustic panels. Marcia Griglak, Bobbie Rooney and Connie Padilla made their recommendations; I ve received bids; and ordered the panels. After their installation, we ll tackle the banners. I suggested we use the colors of the liturgical year for the banners and that was accepted. Besides decreasing the echo from the Narthex into the church, these panels and banners will also give some badly needed color to the Narthex s static space. Other Grounds Improvements The new signage for the location of our parish office off Horseshoe Drive has been completed and looks great! The first 3 bushes along the office entrance have been removed so we no longer have to play peekaboo as we exit the parking lot to avoid crashing into the speeders along Horseshoe Drive. We also have two new signs for Adrians Hall that will be hung in the coming weeks. Fr. John O. Vendors are needed for the Altar & Rosary Society annual Christmas Gift Shop. Call Inez at , or Sandy at to reserve your space. Amazing Parish Update The Grounds Committee has added one more member: Rik Bergethon. The Committee is fully stocked now. It s first meeting is this week. As mentioned previously, it has a limited duration (will end by November) and a limited focus: improving the front/back of the school, the 4 flower planters along Bonforte, the office entrance courtyard and a small strip along the parking lot. This Committee s recommendations will be implemented early next year; plants will be ordered in January and planted in April. Would you bring Communion to someone in your neighborhood? It can be any day that works for you. And you get grace for it! We have a growing need for ministers to the homebound, and need more communion ministers. 6 CALLED BY GOD Today s scriptures invite us to listen to two calls. The first is the call issued by the LORD to the prophet Amos, the shepherd and a dresser of sycamores (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out two by two (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God destined us for adoption (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and places of work. Let us be inspired today to say yes to the call we hear once again through God s living word. Join the parish staff in wishing Fr. John a fantastic birthday on Sunday, July 15th!
