DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Items are available, free of charge, at Holy Trinity Parish for those in need. WEDNESDAY DEVOTIONS: 3:00 P.M. In August the Wednesday Devotions will be at Holy Trinity with the Divine Mercy Chaplet in the presence of the exposed Blessed Sacrament. Prayer to Our Lady Undoer of Knots, Prayer for Vocations, Benediction, Divine Praise and closing prayer. PASTOR S MESSAGE: 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Judgment tends to have a bad reputation. We often associate it with condemnation, and in the Gospels, we associate it with the Pharisees. Today's Gospel features the Pharisees doing exactly what we expect. "They observed that some of his disciples ate their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands." The Jewish people had strict purification laws that applied to all areas of life. The Pharisees attempt to accuse Jesus of not following the ancestral traditions. Jesus doesn't take offense at their judgments per se. He instead points out the hypocrisy of their words. "You hypocrites? this people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." From there, Jesus turns his attention to the concerns of the heart. "The things that come from within are what defile." He lists off a number of sins, including some the Pharisees were likely struggling with, including evil thoughts, envy, and arrogance. When we examine the list, perhaps we're reminded of our own trips to the confessional! As we strive to follow Jesus and live with integrity, we must be aware of our hearts. We must judge our own actions. Are they leading us closer to God or away from Him? Are we growing in love of our neighbor, or are we becoming more closed in on ourselves? As we move into this week, consider the state of our own heart. Perhaps you are overly scrupulous in less important areas. Perhaps there are large areas of overlooked sin that you've excused for too long. Whatever it is, the judgment of God need not cripple us. He offers us a share in His mercy as soon as we turn to Him. This week, allow your heart to be transformed! MOTHER TERESA S CLOSET: We are looking for some extra help for the summer months on Wednesday distribution dates. Perhaps some of our youth as well as other parishioners could lend a helping hand and give of their time during the summer. Dates for distribution are September 12th & 26th. 4 CHURCH OF THE HOLY SPIRIT FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Ann Simonson, Faith Formation Coordinator Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time HOLY TRINITY PARISH FAITH FORMATION NEWS: Cindy Kollar, Faith Formation Coordinator The Faith Formation offices at Holy Spirit and Holy Trinity are not staffed during the summer months. To contact our staff, the parish at or access the addresses above for Ann Simonson and Cindy Kollar. We would like to wish all students a wonderful year as they return to school & college in the next few weeks. FREE BOOKS: Over the next few weeks, there will be tables set up in the breezeway with free books for anyone to take. As the tables empty, we will fill them back up until the books are gone. FRIDAY S TABLE: During the entire month of September, the Hannaford Market in Gloversville will donate $1.00 for every reusable Fight Hunger bag that is purchased. We all use them and can certainly use more. Please encourage your family and friends to buy the Fight Hunger reusable bag at Hannaford in September. The Hannaford Market has always been very generous to the Friday s Table Program. When in the store, please express your gratitude. It s been 20 years since the first meal was served at Friday s Table. We are going to celebrate! Please save the date: Sunday, October 14th. We will be having a 20th Anniversary party and anyone and everyone who ever worked at Friday s Table is invited. Please spread the word to your team members. Don Fleischut OUR COUNTRY NEEDS OUR PRAYERS: Please join us to pray the Rosary to Our Lady of Fatima on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 A.M. at the Trackside Homes meeting SISTERS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The Sisters are sponsoring a Smith s Pie Sale to benefit the many programs we donate to throughout the year. The order form is due by Sept. 17 and are available in the Parish Office. Faith Formation and the Sisters of the Holy Spirit are taking donations to purchase and fill the bookcase with new religious books for our children. Please make checks payable to Sisters of the Holy Spirit-Books and drop it into the offertory basket or parish office. We will be sure to list all the books purchased in early November. Our next meeting will be September 10, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. Please invite a friend who enjoys community service in our Church, and socializing with other members! All are welcome! Please remember to bring travel sized product for the shelter. Mohawk Valley Kids Chorus: Kid singers wanted! This is a great opportunity for children to perform with the Mohawk Valley Chorus, make new friends and receive voice instruction. (Membership dues only $10 for the year). Mohawk Valley Chorus: Singers wanted! No audition-just come to rehearsal; three concerts performed each year; Christmas, Classics & Pops; Membership dues $50 for the year. See information for both groups on the Church bulletin boards. Be Sure Register for Hearts Aflame Hearts Aflame is only a few weeks away! It is important to register in advance. This historic gathering is for everyone in our diocese. Led by Bishop Scharfenberger, the event s primary focus is on our Lord Jesus in the Eucharist. It is a time of joy, fellowship, prayer, and unity. This will be a time of spiritual renewal for our whole diocese. Register at rcda.org/heartsaflame or pick up a registration form at the entrance of the churches or in the parish offices. The Holy Trinity Rosary Society will meet on the first Tuesday of each month. Our first meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 4th, at 6:30 P.M. in the hall meeting room. All members are requested to attend. Save the date: Holy Trinity Parish Pork Dinner will be Sunday, September 30th. Holy Trinity Parish is looking for a few strong men/women who could help trim trees and shrubs at St. Patrick s cemetery. We would need you to bring your tree trimmers and brush cutters.
