3 Check this space next weekend (and every weekend) for thoughtful words and insight from Father Doug. He is taking some much needed time off from writing this week. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today was once called in Latin Dominica in albis, or Sunday in White, because the church was full of newly baptized Christians wearing their white baptismal garments. Another old title, best forgotten, is Low Sunday. There s nothing low about this festive Sunday in Easter, the eighth day since the first Alleluia rang out. In Christian tradition, the number eight is a symbol of fulfillment, transition, breaking through the seven-day rhythm of life to a new way of being. That is why many baptismal fonts have eight sides. The greatest feasts of our calendar are always extended for eight days, called an octave. In a way, this means that this first week of Easter is really considered to be one great day. This octave day of Easter sees the best features of Easter still vibrant: joyful alleluias, lush spring flowers everywhere, sprinkling with water, and a lavish table where the Lord gives us himself as bread and wine. (L to R) Krista Windschitl, Matt Udermann, Mike Webb, Gary Van Eyll, Kathy Bates, Father Doug, Deanna Rosenwinkel, Mary Kingsbury and Amy Gallus SayHey Events was pleased to present the first $10K of funds raised from the SayHey5k to one of the most visible and known entities in Downtown Chaska. Guardian Angels Church and School has been part of the fabric of Downtown Chaska for more than 150 years. The funds raised will go toward the costs of the exterior restoration of Guardian Angels Church. The SayHey5k was founded last year as a way to raise awareness, engagement and funds for the vitality of Downtown Chaska. The first year race was held June 25, 2011 and attracted 400 participants and raised $10, Presenting the check are SayHey Events Board Members Mike Webb (Owner, Chaska Dunn Brothers), Krista Windschitl (Lifelong Chaska Resident), and Matt Udermann (Founder, SayHey5k).. SayHey Events is a not for profit 501(c)(3) corporation. The SayHey5k is held the last Saturday in June in Downtown Chaska. All are welcome. Registration is available at local businesses, on the back of this bulletin or online at 25% of this year's race will benefit Guardian Angels, 75% is earmarked as funds to improve storefronts - these funds will be guided with the help of the Downtown Businesss Alliance, the Chaska Historical Society and the City of Chaska. Visit for more information on the fastest growing event in Chaska.
4 Mass Intentions Mass intentions may be for the living and the departed, with a designating in the bulletin a deceased person. There is a $10 suggested donation per Mass intention. Permission from the sick person or his/ her family must be granted before a name s inclusion in these prayers. To schedule a Mass intention, call Jean in the parish office. Baptism Sacramental preparation is required for all parents. Godparents and Grandparents are also encouraged to attend. Baptismal prep sessions are given every other month and Baptism Masses are held once a month. Call Jean in the parish office to schedule a child for Baptism and the parents for baptismal prep. Prayers of the Faithful. If you would like a name included in our Prayers of the Faithful for the sick, please call the Parish Office. Penance...Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. or call for an appointment. Matrimony...Pre-registration required at least one year in advance; marriage preparation course is required. Initial contact: Dan & Richie Klein (home) , (cell) , or Weddings@GAchaska.org. Anointing If you wish to receive an anointing please call the parish office. Communion for the Homebound...When we come together to pray at our Eucharistic liturgy, we do not forget the members of our community who are unable to be with us because of ill health. We remember them in our prayer, and we wish to include them in our Holy Communion. Members of our community bring the Blessed Sacrament to them to comfort them and to unite them with us in the Eucharist. We are not always aware of those who have this need. Please call the Parish Office to let us know if you or a member of your family would like to have Holy Communion brought to them. That way we can schedule a time for our ministers to visit and bring the Sacrament. Hospital, Nursing Home, Homebound Visits...Churches are no longer notified by hospitals or nursing homes when a parishioner is admitted unless the family has requested it. If you or a family member are homebound, hospitalized or in a nursing home and would like a visit from a member of the pastoral ministry staff, please call Jean Rief in the parish office. 5 Faith Formation Congratulations to our four RCIA candidates who were fully initiated into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil last weekend. With our prayers and support, they have gone through months of preparation and discernment while growing closer as a faith community. There is no doubt that this is not the end of their faith journey, but simply a new phase. Pictured above are Brianna Brickweg, Dena Bretz, Anna Wong and Kim Anderson, their sponsors along with Deacon Jim, and Father Doug. Continued blessings to them all! Education for the Mind~Body~Spirit Thank you to all the parishioners who saved their Cooper's Receipts over the past several months. The competition has ended for now and will resume again in September. Guardian Angels School sent in over $33,000 worth of receipts this past week. We will be able to place an order for some wonderful school equipment in May. Thank you! At Sky, kids discover that everything is possible with God! Sky is filled with incredible Biblelearning experiences kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the Sky activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus, we ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life - something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot! Sounds exciting right? We need you to make this great week happen please contact Emily Klinker to find out where you can use your gifts in this exciting ministry!
