4 1 st Reading: Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8 Thirteenth Sunday after Trinity ~ Year B And now, O Israel, give heed to the statutes and the ordinances which I teach you, and do them; that you may live, and go in and take possession of the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, gives you. You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it; that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you. Keep them and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people. For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is to us, whenever we call upon him? And what great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law which I set before you this day? Response: Thanks be to God. Responsorial Psalm 15:2-3, 3-4, 5 The People sing the Responses: R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord. One who walks blamelessly and does justice; who thinks the truth in his heart and slanders not with his tongue. R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord. Who harms not his fellow man, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor; by whom the reprobate is despised, while he honors those who fear the LORD.

5 R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord. Who lends not his money at usury and accepts no bribe against the innocent. One who does these things shall never be disturbed. R. He who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord. The Epistle: James 1:17-18, 21B-22, 27 Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures. Receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. Response: Thanks be to God. The Gospel: Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, Now when the Pharisees gathered together to him, with some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem, they saw that some of his disciples ate with hands defiled, that is, unwashed. (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they wash their hands, observing the tradition of the elders; and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they purify themselves; and there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing of cups and pots and vessels of bronze. And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with hands defiled? And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men. You leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. And he called the people to him again, and said to them, Hear me, all of you, and understand: there is nothing outside a man which by going into him can defile him; but the things which come out of a man are what defile him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a man. Response: Praise be to Thee O Christ

6 Announcements The Ordinarite is having a mandatory clergy conference in Chicago, from September 28 th to October 2 nd. Vicar General, Fr. Charles Hough III, requests that all congregations cover the cost of this conference ($500), as well as the airfare to and from Chicago (which, in our case, will be $250 round trip from DFW to Chicago) for their priest. Special Collection envelopes for this purpose will be available at the September Sunday Masses, and it is the hope of the Ordinariate Leadership that the St. Timothy's parishioners will respond generously to this directive. The September parish potluck is next week! (September 6th) Let's say "Good Bye" to Summer and "Hello" to Autumn together at the Parish Potluck after the Solemn Mass on Sunday, September 6th. The monthly potluck is an especially good week to invite friends who may be interested about the Ordinariate, St. Timothy's, traditional liturgy, or who perhaps just want a nice home cooked meal. As always, we remind our parishioners -- the more people who participate in the Pot Luck, the more fun (and food!!) is enjoyed by all! Father Tom Kennedy s ordination to the priesthood was yesterday at the Catholic Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Arlington. Although he will mostly be assisting at St. Mary's in Arlington, we hope to be able to call on Father to be with us at St. Timothy's (where he learned so much about the priestly life whilst serving under Father Acker) on occasion as well. Congratulations Father Kennedy! 2015 Confirmation - who remembers the 7 deadly sins/7 cardinal virtues? Interested in the Catholic faith? The Ordinariate? The change of seasons from Summer to Autumn means it's time for another St. Timothy's Inquirers/Confirmation/RCIA Class The 2015/2016 Class will begin Wednesday, September 16th in the purple classroom in the School Building. For more information, see Father Stainbrook -- All are Welcome!! 40 Days for Life Campaign is from September 23 to November 1. The Fort Worth Kick Off Rally will be Sept. 23rd. Using this following link to sign up to be a prayer volunteer online at Unfortunately, the website does not list a phone number for those who do not have a computer. Fr. Stainbrook has appointed Gimarie Menchaca as the St. Timothy s coordinator. Please contact her for additional information. Thank you for your continued prayers throughout the year to End Abortion.
