2 FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI Today is the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi. As per the indult given in the USA on November 25, 1885 under Pope Leo XIII, the Mass of Corpus Christi with the Eucharistic Procession will be celebrated today following the 10:30 a.m. High Mass. SOLEMNITY OF THE SACRED HEART Friday, June 23 is the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the 6:00 p.m. High Mass Fr. Miara will consecrate the parish and all of our parishioners to the Sacred Heart. Please plan on attending with your families as we make this Act of Consecration together, begging almighty God for a great outpouring of graces upon us as we take refuge in this Heart which has loved men so much! This will be followed by a Eucharistic Holy Hour of Reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Benediction. Prayer to Our Lady Hail O Queen of Heaven enthroned! 3 JUBILEE OF FATIMA A FATIMA MIRACLE - HIROSHIMA At 2:45 a.m. on August 6, 1945, a B-29 bomber departed from the island of Tinian in the Pacific Ocean to drop the first atomic bomb on Japan. At 8:15 a.m. the bomb exploded eight blocks away from the Jesuit church of Our Lady s Assumption in Hiroshima. A group of Jesuits were close to the epicenter of the attack on Hiroshima, but they survived the catastrophe, and the radiation that killed thousands in the following months had no effect on them. Experts were amazed that the priests had survived. The physicians who treated them after the disaster warned them that the radiation they received would produce serious lacerations, as well as disease and an early death. However, none of this happened. One of them, a Father Hubert Schiffer later recalled that horrible day. According to Father Schiffer, having already celebrated Mass, he was about to eat breakfast, when there was a blinding flash of light followed by an incredible explosion. He was taken up and violently thrown about in the air like a leaf in a gust of wind, he said. He would next open his eyes on the ground, and, upon seeing the absolute devastation around him, was shocked to realize that, though wounded, he would survive. Perhaps even more miraculous than surviving the initial blast was the fact that none of the Jesuits suffered any after-effects from the radiation as was mentioned above. Father Schiffer himself, lived another thirty-three years and both wrote and spoke of his experiences at Hiroshima. The religious fervently believed that they were protected by God and the Blessed Virgin Mary due to their devotion to the message of Fatima. They explained, We were living the message of Fatima and we prayed the Rosary every day. COLLECTIVE MASSES The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for the collective intentions of the donors as follows: Each Tuesday a Mass will be offered in honor of St. Anthony for the intentions given by his clients. On the first Wednesday of the month a Mass will be offered for all of the novena intentions to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. On the first Thursday of the month a Mass will be offered in honor of the Infant Jesus of Prague for the intentions given by his clients. Johnus Cherunilath V.C, a Vincentian Missionary Priest from India, to our parish this weekend to participate in our Annual Missionary Cooperation Plan. He is preaching at all the Masses this weekend and will make an appeal on behalf of the Vincentian Missions. The Vincentian Congregation (V.C.), a missionary sending Religious Congregation, was founded in Kerala, India in 1904, modeled after the Congregation of the Mission founded by St. Vincent de Paul. Members of this flourishing Religious Congregation, all natives of India, are engaged in Mission Work in all parts of India and in several countries in Africa. The Vincentian Missionaries need our help to carry out their many missionary, educational and charitable activities in their missions. They need our special financial support for the training of young men studying for priesthood. There will be special second collection today to help the Missionary work of the Vincentian Missionaries.
