For more information, please contact Father Ray at or Jackie Lampton at Dates to Remember 11/2 Stewardship Sunday 11/16 Pastoral Council Elections First Reconciliation Parent Meeting 10/27 St. Thomas will hold a meeting for the parents of the students preparing to receive First Reconciliation this year on Monday, October 27 at 7:00 PM in the Church building. All parents are urged to attend. 40 Days for Life 9/24-11/2 The 40 Days for Life campaign includes prayerful vigils, prayer & fasting, and community outreach. This campaign will be from September 24-November 2. For additional information, please visit All Saints Day 11/1 All Saints Day will be celebrated on Saturday, November 1. Since the feast falls on a Saturday, it is not a day of obligation. It remains a special feast day, and St. Thomas Parish will celebrate Mass at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 1. Book Remembering the Deceased There will be a Book Remembering the Deceased in the gathering area for you to write the names of your deceased loved ones for remembrance at the Masses during November. This book will be placed on the altar for the month of November. All Souls Day Envelopes All Souls Day Envelopes are available in the Gathering Area. The envelopes will be placed on the altar during the month of November. Wed. College Student Mass and Dinner St. Thomas Parish sponsors a special Wednesday evening Mass and Dinner for college students each Wednesday while the University of Montevallo is in session. The Mass is celebrated at 5:30 PM at the Campus Chapel on the corner of Highland and Moody, and a dinner prepared by teams from the parish follows immediately after Mass. Through your generosity, St. Thomas collected $ for World Missions. Parish Stewardship Pledge Weekend 11/1-2 St. Thomas Parish will celebrate Parish Financial Stewardship Weekend on the weekend of November 1-2. Pledge materials will be mailed to all parishioners on October 22. We will offer our financial pledges during the celebration of the Eucharist at all the Masses that weekend. Please be generous. Christmas Adult Choir Rehearsal The Adult Choir has began rehearsals on Wednesday, 7:15-8:30PM in preparation for the 9:00 PM Christmas Eve liturgy. Contact Ann Hicks for more information at Knights of Columbus Yard Sale 11/8 The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2574 will be holding a yard sale on Saturday November 8, 2014 in the St Thomas parish hall. The sale will start a 8:00 am and run until 1:00 pm. If you have any items for donation to the yard sale, you can contact Matthew Stitt at and/or bring them by the church during normal business hours. You may get further information or register at or by calling Joy and Bob Hernandez at K of C Flag Retirement 11/15 The Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2574 will be collecting old United States of America flags for a retirement ceremony which will be held on November 15, 2014 after the 5:30 Mass. There will be a box placed in the gathering area where you can drop the flags off. All parishioners are welcome to participate in the ceremony. Knights of Columbus Monthly Meeting 11/9 The K of C Council will hold their meeting on Nov. 9, The meeting will 7 pm in the modular building. These meetings are open to all Knights in good standing. We will be having our Assembly meetings for fourth degree 6:pm prior to the Council meetings. Ladies' Auxiliary 11/9 The next Ladies' Auxiliary meeting will be on Sunday, November 9 at 7:00PM in the St. Joseph room. All ladies of the parish are invited and encouraged to attend our meetings. Moms & Tots We are an energetic group of mommies & children birth through preschool. We have scheduled weekly activities. Newcomers are always welcome! Evening Scripture Study The Wednesday evening study group has began and will meet in the St. Joseph s room. This session we will be studying the book of Revelation using the book, The End by Dr. Scott Hahn. In this dramatic Bible Study, Dr. Hahn demonstrates why this littlestudied book contains many of the keys to understanding the Gospels. He explains that, for those students willing to examine the historical background to the New Testament, the Book of Revelation actually summarizes the central doctrines of Faith. OLV Marriage Enrichment 10/30 Our Lady of the Valley Marriage Enrichment Program will be presenting our fourth session for the Fall season on Thurs., Oct. 30th. It will be on Ageing Parents and the issues and the problems that occur. This will be presented by Dr. Dale Wisely and is a topic that most of us can relate too or will in the future. As usual, we will start at 6:30 p.m. with snacks and drinks, and the presentation will start at 7p.m. and last until 8:30 p.m. This will be held in the social hall at Our Lady of the Valley and free babysitting is provided. Seminarian Education Fund The Diocese of Birmingham is changing the name of what was formerly the Burse Club to the Seminarian Education Fund. Currently, parishioners at St. Thomas Parish are invited to make a contribution to this fund through envelopes or through on-line giving each January. The Diocese of Birmingham is blessed with 10 seminarians studying for the priesthood for this diocese. The average annual cost for a student in seminary studies is $35,000.00, which includes tuition, room and board. Additional donations are always welcome.
