Our services are all slightly different, but each offers a friendly space in which you can worship God and be part of God s community. St Andrew s at 8am: Holy Communion is a less formal worship service. The first Sunday of the month is usually Morning Prayer. St Luke s at 10am: Holy Eucharist has a more formal style of worship. The Eucharist is also celebrated at St Luke s on Thursdays at 8:30am. St Andrew s at 5pm: Sunday Night Live or 4:30pm: Messy Church (3rd Sunday of each month) is a space for families with children and the young at heart to join in informal and fun worship, discussion and activities. At our Sunday morning services you will need the middle pages of this booklet to join in the prayers and the Psalm that we read together. If you need a gluten-free wafer at Communion, please tell the person who welcomed you at the front door before the service. We pray in silence before worship Before worship speak to God. During worship let God speak to you. After Worship speak to each other. Both of our churches are equipped with an audio loop. If you use a hearing aid, use the T switch to connect. 1

2 From the Parish Rector's Reflection Dear friends, This past week I spent a few days in the Hunter Valley at the annual clergy conference. The mood was a little more subdued than usual given the royal commission at present, but the evenings afforded us an opportunity to enjoy collegial fellowship and imbibe some liquid refreshment over dinner. Despite our collective grief as a diocese, I gleaned a sense of hope from laity and clergy alike at both convention and conference. I want to thank the fifteen parishioners who accompanied me to the convention last Saturday, it speaks volumes and I don't believe there was greater attendance from any other parish. The disclosure of historical abuses in the diocese has left many of us shocked and dismayed. It touches us all at different levels. For the clergy of our parish it is quite personal as some of the victims and perpetrators are known to us. In some cases we've felt conflicted, in others betrayed. As with grief in all circumstances, there are several stages to undergo before arriving at a place of resolve. Whilst our parish has not been directly effected, we are still members of the diocesan family and, as such, not impervious to these revelations. But we draw strength from each other as members of the body of Christ - the church is a place of hope and good news. We mustn't forget that resurrection follows death, that we are an Easter people and that 'alleluia' is the song on our lips and in our hearts! We received word on the final day of the clergy conference that Bishop Greg and Kerry had become grandparents for the very first time. Knowing what our bishop's been going through presently, this news filled us all with a sense of thanksgiving. I've taken the liberty, on your behalf, of extending our warmest congratulations to their family. The birth of a child is always a great joy within any family, and we share our bishop's joy at this time of great trial. Brothers and Sisters, may I prevail upon your continued prayers for Bishops Greg and Peter - as yet to take the stand at the royal commission - both exemplars of episcopal integrity. Please pray for me and our parish ministry team as we seek to lead you in the truth of the gospel. May The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you His peace. Amen. Fr Michael 2

5 Readings for this week Jeremiah Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. Then I said, Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy. But the Lord said to me, Do not say, I am only a boy ; for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and you shall speak whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord. Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me, Now I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. Psalm (To be said by alternate half verse) 1 To you, Lord, have I come for shelter: let me never be put to shame. 2 In your righteousness rescue and deliver me: incline your ear to me and save me. 3 Be for me a rock of refuge, a fortress to defend me: for you are my high rock, and my stronghold. 4 Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked: from the grasp of the pitiless and unjust. 5 For you, Lord, are my hope: you are my confidence, O God, from my youth upward. 6 On you have I leaned since my birth: you are he that brought me out of my mother s womb, and my praise is of you continually. 5

6 Hebrews You have not come to something that can be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that not another word be spoken to them. (For they could not endure the order that was given, If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned to death. Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, I tremble with fear. ) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking; for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven! At that time his voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven. This phrase Yet once more indicates the removal of what is shaken that is, created things so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for indeed our God is a consuming fire. The Gospel: Luke Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, Lord, will only a few be saved? He said to them, Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able. When once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, open to us, then in reply he will say to you, I do not know where you come from. Then you will begin to say, We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets. But he will say, I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evildoers! There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrown out. Then people will come from east and west, from north and south, and will eat in the kingdom of God. Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.
