Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: In Isaiah s day, the dreams of the nation of Israel had been shattered; they were in exile. But it was an opportunity to rely anew on God and His gracious plans for them when they would return. Saul had seen his Pharisaic dreams shattered when Jesus proclaimed Himself as the replacement for the sacrifice-filled temple. But newly made Paul was forever changed by the gift of Christ s righteousness, given even to him. The Jewish leaders held on to the nation and temple as if they were the owners, not mere tenants, as in Jesus parable. When the kingdom was given to others, God s plans for all people were fulfilled. Our selfcentered dreams must also be shattered so that God may transform and fulfill them as only His plans for us can. How then shall we live out this new life? PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: Almighty God, by Your great goodness mercifully look upon Your people that our shattered self-serving dreams be transformed by Your lifegiving power; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 4 Almighty God, heavenly Father, we confess that we are by nature sinful. We have failed to love You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We have considered ourselves better than others; we have expected You to bless us in all things. For the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord, forgive us, and by the power of Your Holy Spirit cleanse our hearts and minds that we might walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. Christ Jesus, true man and true God, was obedient to His Father in all things and in our place. By His death, He destroyed death, and by His rising opened eternal life to all who call on Him for forgiveness. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The Lord s Prayer is a prayer for all seasons, no matter in what season of life you find yourself! The Lenten Services on this coming Wednesday, March 16 th will be Seasons for Standing Up to Evil, Sixth and Seventh Petitions. 12

13 Wyatt James Phelps was born on Wednesday evening, March 9, at Mercy Hospital in Washington. We praise our Lord and Savior for the safe delivery and good health of the mother. We celebrate with Calab and Bridget on the birth of their son. Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:14) Thank You - to all who came last Sunday to enjoy chili and soup with us, made the yummy desserts and helped cook the chili and soup, set up and clean up after the dinner. It helped to make the fundraiser a success! It could not have been done without your participation. There were approximately 70 people in attendance from Ebenezer and surrounding churches. Thank you especially for your generosity, donating $1100 for the Ingram family. They were very appreciative of your kindness! Jesus Painter coming to Immanuel in Washington Bringing Faith to life in living color through live painting performances is the goal of Mike Lewis, The Jesus Painter, who will be sharing his gifts and talents at a live performance at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Washington. On Friday, March 18 th at 7:00 PM, Mike will present his Faith, Hope and Love presentation at this free performance. Education and Sunday School Teachers Meeting - On March 17 th we will have a special Education/Sunday School Teachers meeting to discuss Summer Sunday School to choose the curriculum for June, July and August. Over the years the Curriculum from Concordia Publishing has been downsizing Summer Sunday School. Concordia has options that we can choose that will supplement their materials being offered. Also plans for Vacation Bible School July will be discussed. The theme will be Barnyard Roundup Jesus Gathers Us Together. Easter Breakfast Plans are underway for our annual Easter Breakfast following the sunrise service Easter morning. The Confirmands and Sunday School youth of the congregation as well as the Sunday School Teachers will provide the egg casseroles, rolls, donuts, juice, milk and coffee etc. A free will offering will be taken for the Leslie Food Pantry. 17 Relay For Life We will have a Pulled Pork and Baked Ham Dinner in our dining hall on April 10 th from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM benefitting the American Cancer Society. All profits from this dinner will go to provide lifesaving work in the fight against cancer. These funds advance the search for new and better cures and also provide transportation and lodging for local cancer patients. A free will offering will be collected with checks written to the American Cancer Society. During the Church service on April 10 th, we will be celebrating a Sunday of Hope. The sanctuary will be decorated with luminaria bags a paper bag containing a candle and displaying a name. We all know someone who has been touched by cancer. If you would like to recognize a loved one by ordering a luminaria in honor of a cancer survivor or in memory of someone who lost the battle, please fill out the following form and put it in the collection plate by April 3 rd.
