We begin in the Name of God the Father, C: Who has made us and cares for us, P: And in the Name of God the Son, C: Who has redeemed us. P: And in the Name of God the Holy Spirit, C: Who brings us to faith and renews our faith. CONFESSION OF SINS AND FORGIVENESS P: Dear Friends in Christ: Whereas Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, among whom we are numbered, let us come before our gracious God and openly confess our sins to Him, asking Him to grant us forgiveness for Jesus sake. All: Heavenly Father, although you have set forth the way of life for us in your Beloved Son, we confess with shame our slowness to learn of him, our failure to follow him, our reluctance to bear his cross. Have mercy upon us, O Lord. Wash us thoroughly from our sinful filth and empower us to conform our lives to Your Holy Will, for Jesus sake. Amen. P: Hear the good news! This saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin and be alive to all that is good. In the name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven. C: Amen. RESPONSIVE READING Psalm 25:6; 115:11-13, 18 Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. You who fear him, trust in the Lord he is their help and shield. The Lord remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, He will bless those who fear the Lord small and great alike. It is we who extol the Lord, both now and forevermore. Praise the Lord. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen

2 PRAYER FOR 2ND SUNDAY IN LENT All: O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy, be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. THE OLD TESTAMENT READING Isaiah 5:1-7 1 I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. 2 He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit. 3 Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. 4 What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? 5 Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. 6 I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, 7 and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it. The vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress. P: This is the Word of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. THE EPISTLE READING Romans 5: You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. THE HOLY GOSPEL Mark 12: Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect

3 from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed. 6 He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, They will respect my son. 7 But the tenants said to one another, This is the heir. Come, let s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard. 9 What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven t you read this passage of Scripture: The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; 11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes? 12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord C: Thanks be to God. AUGSBURG CONFESSION ARTICLE 15: ON CHURCH REGULATIONS Concerning church regulations made by human beings, it is taught to keep those that may be kept without sin and that serve to maintain peace and good order in the church, such as specific celebrations, festivals, and so on. However, people are also instructed not to burden consciences with them as if such things were necessary for salvation. Moreover, it is taught that all rules and traditions made by human beings for the purpose of appeasing God and of earning grace are contrary to the Gospel and the teaching concerning faith in Christ. That is why monastic vows and other traditions concerning distinction of foods, days, and the like, through which people imagine they can earn grace and make satisfaction for sin, are good for nothing and are contrary to the Gospel. He will make announcements during worship and give a more detailed report during the education hour in the Parlor. Also, he will bring Every Kid to Camp awards for some of our children. Finally, a door offering for the Filled with the Spirit campaign will be collected. THRIVENT CHOICE deposited $ into our school account. LENT WORSHIP SERVICES ON WEDNESDAYS AT 1:00 PM AND 6:30 PM CANCER SUPPORT GROUP AT ST. PAUL A group for victims, survivors, families, caregivers and others to talk, listen, and support one another will meet again on Saturday, March 23rd & April 13th at 9:00 a.m. in the Conference Room next to the church office. Please join the group to support and comfort all who struggle to overcome the effects of cancer and pray for all who are touched by this disease. STOP THE BLEED CLASSES for anyone and everyone in the church and school will be held on March 31st and April 7th in the lunch room in between services, from 9:30-10:30. Sign up sheet is on the table in the back of church. These classes will teach everyone how to pack a wound or apply a tourniquet during a traumatic situation. We have 'stop the bleed' kits that will be put with each AED so if there is ever a situation that they are needed they are available. But we can't put them in until we conduct the class. KWIK TRIP DISCONTINUED MILK MOOLA PROGRAM - Please bring in all your Kwik Trip milk caps, bag tops, and Glazers price ovals by March 25th so we can send in what we have collected. This program will be discontinued the end of March. ST. PAUL SPRING CARNIVAL The annual Spring Carnival will be held on Friday, April 5 from 3:30-7:30. Individuals or businesses that are interested in donating a raffle basket should contact Mr. Elmhorst. The spring carnival provides for the transportation costs for all school fieldtrips. MEN S CLUB will be meeting Sunday, March 24th between services in the Conference Room next to the Church Office. Fish Fry will be Friday, April 12 serving 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Fish Fry tickets are available from any Men s Club member, Men s Club will also be selling Fish Fry tickets between services Sunday, March 31st & April 7th, or you can buy them during the week in the Church Office. CAMP LUTHER TEEN CAMP Teen Camp is a five-night program specifically for high schoolers that takes the awesomeness of Camp Luther up to the next level.
