4 Zion s New Kitchen- Blessed and re-dedicated to the Glory of God On Saturday, February 16 th, we had a celebration and blessing of Zion s newly renovated kitchen. After years of dreaming, writing a grant to the Foote Family Trust and months of design work, the demolition of the old and building the new, our kitchen is now up to health department standards for commercial kitchens. The Rt. Rev. Laura Ahrens blessed the kitchen with prayer and the sprinkling of holy water. Rev. Lucy thanked all who contributed to the project including the trustee of the Foote Family Trust, Regina Collins, Probate Judge Frank Forgione; architect Duo Dickenson who met with us and whose company made architectural drawings for us of the old space free of charge; the Rev. Sharon Gracen from Trinity, Branford, who made sure that Zion received the lion s share of grant money in 2018; Tom Cowell, the North Branford Building Official who met with us prior to the design phase; and the Zion parishioners involved in the project- Diane Iglesias and the Buildings & Grounds Committee, Lisa Latham, Ann Harriman, Debbie Anderson, Carol Esposito, Pat Lovelace, and Diane Pierpont. A new plaque was then unveiled by Diane Iglesias, Zion s Junior Warden and kitchen project coordinator. The plaque reads, 2018 Kitchen Renovation, Through the continued generosity of the Wallace F. Foote Family Charitable Trust and with God s Grace for the Service of Others. 4 After the blessing we enjoyed a delicious meal of pasta, meatballs, and salads prepared by Ann Harriman and Lisa Latham. The dessert table was overflowing with offerings from attendees. Thank you to all who made the evening so special. MILESTONES Baptism Joseph Scott Longo, January 13th. 5 MUSIC NEWS The very dedicated choir continues to help lead us in worship on Sundays. The singers & instrumentalists meet before church, and sometimes stay after the service, to practice for worship and to prepare upcoming music. We have begun rehearsing music for Lent, Holy Week, and Easter. We will begin the Lenten season with singing the Great Litany. We will be singing some beautiful music throughout Lent. The choir will be leading us in hymns and reflective anthems before and during the Good Friday service. Easter Sunday will be full with wonderful and joyful music that celebrates the day! As always, new members who sing or play instruments are welcome to join the choir. Blessings, Ralene Goff Calling All Textile Lovers! To anyone and everyone who knits, crochets, or quilts: we are running low on prayer shawls. Prayer shawls are given to anyone need someone facing surgery, chemotherapy, a death in the family, other catastrophic illness, the stress of caring for aging parents or chronically ill or disabled family, etc. We have received many heartfelt thanks for the comfort the shawls have brought to so many and we would like to have more on hand, so when the need arises, a shawl is there. If you knit or crochet and need yarn or needles, there is a supply in the sliding door closet in the parish hall; please help yourself. If you need patterns or want more information, please contact Jane Chick, ctycampboss@yahoo.com or ADVENT DIAPER DRIVE THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who donated to the diaper drive, it was a huge success and close to two thousand diapers were collected. Three hundred and fifty of those diapers were donated to a local Coast Guard family who were struggling during the government shutdown. The rest of the diapers were donated to the Community Diaper Bank in Branford and will be distributed to local families in need. Thank you to Ann Harriman and Carol Archer for bringing the diapers to the diaper bank. Change for Change During Lent, we look to intentionally give up something (chocolate, soda, etc.), or take on something (reading scripture daily, donating time to a cause, etc.), to help bring us closer in our relationship with God. One way to do this would be to participate in Change for Change. Each day we put whatever change we may have in a container and bring that container to church on Palm Sunday. All of the money collected will then be donated to the Food Pantry of North Branford. Please consider taking on this challenge; it will help our struggling neighbors and also remind us of how blessed we are in our own lives. Containers will be available on Sunday, March 3 rd. Thank you! Author and Zion parishioner, Mary Anne Hardy will discuss her book, 50 Hikes in Connecticut which will be released March 5, on Sunday, March 24th at 11:30 a.m. in the parish hall. Books will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author. A portion of the sales will be donated to Zion. Refreshments will be served.
