2 We are Here to Serve You Dear friends, Today s second reading opens the way to understanding the message Jesus Christ is delivering to his listeners. He invites us to look at the mission he entrusts to us as participation in his suffering. However shocking this may be for the Apostles and other listeners, Jesus tells things openly so that people may make their choices. Something very surprising here is that while Jesus is preparing his disciples for what he will endure, the disciples have another preoccupation. Their interest is focused on honor and privileges. They so blinded that the only issue that matters for them is to find out who among them is the greatest. Is not this the source of jealousy and discord among the disciples? Sure it is; and the readings from the Book of Wisdom as well as the Letter of James insist on the matter. Envy and jealousy blind us and lead us to think but evil for our neighbors. They make us overlook what God has given us and focus on what others have received but that we lack. Once we nurture them in our lives, we find ourselves comfortable when telling stories about in order to disparage them. Fighting, dissention, quarrel and every kinds of reprehensible acts or says have their roots on either envy or jealousy. To turn our eyes and hearts from theses sources of evil, Jesus places in front of us the image of a child. This reminds us of one of the childhood qualities: receptivity. Being receptive to God means for us to look not on what we do not have but to recognize the grace God has bestowed on us and which we are called to make fruitful. When we embrace childhood and become little children, we realize with Jesus Christ the process of kenosis; we empty ourselves of the desires of selffulfillment, selfishness in order to give God primacy in our lives. We surrender our inner desire and tendency to be the masters of all that surrounds us and/or occurs in our lives. A spirit of a child is the one that does not make us seek our own honor, or finds solace in recognition and rounds of applauses. Rather, it is a spirit that makes us say at the end of the day as servants and disciples that, We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty. (Luke 17:10) This is what we are called to do here at Holy Cross as we continue to pray for one another and for our parish family. May God bless us all! Fr. Emery Queridos Amigos, La segunda lectura de hoy abre el camino para comprender el mensaje que Jesucristo está entregando a sus oyentes. Él nos invita a mirar la misión que él nos confía como participación en su sufrimiento. Por más chocante que esto pueda ser para los Apóstoles y otros oyentes, Jesús dice las cosas abiertamente para que las personas puedan hacer sus elecciones. Nos hacen pasar por alto lo que Dios nos ha dado y centrarnos en lo que otros han recibido, pero que nos falta. Una vez que los alimentamos en nuestras vidas, nos sentimos cómodos cuando contamos historias para desacreditarlos. Pelear, disentir, pelear y todo tipo de actos reprensibles o dichos tienen sus raíces en la envidia o los celos. Para volver nuestros ojos y corazones de estas fuentes del mal, Jesús pone frente a nosotros la imagen de un niño. Esto nos recuerda una de las cualidades de la infancia: la receptividad. Ser receptivo a Dios significa que no busquemos lo que no tenemos, sino que reconozcamos la gracia que Dios nos ha otorgado y que estamos llamados a hacer fructíferos. Cuando abrazamos la infancia y nos volvemos pequeños, nos damos cuenta con Jesucristo del proceso de kenosis; nos despojamos de los deseos de autorrealización, egoísmo para dar a Dios primacía en nuestras vidas. Rendimos nuestro deseo interno y nuestra tendencia de ser dueños de todo lo que nos rodea y / o ocurre en nuestras vidas. El espíritu de un niño es el que no nos hace buscar nuestro propio honor, o encuentra solaz en reconocimiento y rondas de aplausos. Más bien, es un espíritu que nos hace decir al final del día como siervos y discípulos que: "Somos siervos indignos; solo hemos cumplido con nuestro deber "(Lucas 17:10) Esto es lo que estamos llamados a hacer aquí en Holy Cross mientras seguimos orando por los demás y por nuestra familia parroquial.
