1 St. Luke s United Methodist Church 300 Ella Taylor Road, Yorktown, Virginia February 26, 2017~Transfiguration Sunday w w w w w w w (w All are invited to stand.) (Resource Key: UMH United Methodist Hymnal; TFWS The Faith We Sing) WELCOME AND NEWS OF THE CHURCH ALIVE (Please register your attendance.) PRELUDE "Reflection on Royal Oak arr. Robert J. Powell (Please observe this time as an opportunity for silent prayer and meditation.) CALL TO WORSHIP* As God called to Moses from the mountain, we are called to be God s people. As Jesus called the disciples to climb with him to the peak of another mountain, we are called to follow wherever he leads. As the disciples stood in awe at the sound of God s voice, we are called to worship in wonder and praise. RECOGNITION OF GUESTS w RITUAL OF FRIENDSHIP w OPENING HYMN, No. 173 UMH Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS REPONSIVE PRAYER* Though we want to walk with Moses and see God s holy radiance, we hide in the mist of our own desires, unable to perceive the presence of God s grace. While we want a world of justice and peace, we walk in clouds of selfishness, unable to share God s lovingkindness. Though we want to follow Jesus up the mountain, we cower in fear, unable to bear the light of God. In the blazing light of God s grace, Jesus touches us to say, Get up and do not be afraid. In the name of Christ, all is forgiven. Amen. PASTORAL PRAYER THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

2 ANTHEM, God Is Changing the World Chancel Choir {8:30 & 11:00} Words by Justin Beckett Music by Mark Hayes Before our feet walked on this land, before our lungs could breathe, God formed us by His loving hands to live and grown in Him. So we sing a song of joy. So we sing a song of joy. Let us share the melody. Let us share the melody. God is changing the world, (God is changing the world, growing you, growing me.) growing you, growing me. With our voices full of praise (with our voices full of praise) for the miracles we see (for the miracles we see.) God is changing the world, growing you, growing me. He lights the path to lead my feet, to lead my feet, the Word of God to guide. Word of God to guide, He s growing us in faith and pow r to walk in truth and light. In joyful days, in darkest hours, hours, vict ry of defeat, We put our trust in Jesus Christ to make our joy complete. So we sing a song of joy. So we sing a song of joy. Let us share the melody. Let us share the melody. God is changing the world, growing you, growing you, growing me. With our voices full of praise with our voices full of praise for the miracles we see for the miracles we see. God is changing the world, growing you, growing me. With our voices full of praise with our voices full of praise for the miracles we see for the miracles we see. God is changing the world, growing you, growing me, growing you.
