In celebration of this milestone we are hosting a series of events which will take place September 14 th, 15 th, & 23 rd, Friday, September 14, 2018: Gala Dinner Dance The V.I.P. Country Club, 600 Davenport Avenue, New Rochelle 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm Saturday, September 15, 2018: Community Family Day Trinity St. Paul's Episcopal Church (corner of Huguenot and Division Streets in New Rochelle) 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Sunday, September 23, 2018: Choral Evensong A Festive Worship Service with Reception following. 2 TRINITY ST PAUL S CHURCH CELEBRATING OUR 330 TH YEAR: A Brief Sketch of Past and Present In 1688 Huguenots from La Rochelle, France, seeking religious freedom, purchased land from Thomas Pell; not only founding our church but eventually the town of New Rochelle. The first services were held in the kitchen of the Guion family and the first church was built around 1695 when the first priest arrived courtesy of the missionary arm of the Anglican Church. (It was not until 1790 that the first true Rector was hired, parishioner Theodosius Bartow, American Revolutionary hero and direct descendant of Thomas Pell. He is interred in our Burial Ground; as are many of the founding families of our congregation and veterans of every American conflict up to the twentieth century.) In 1709, the congregation voted to join the Anglican Church, becoming part of the Episcopal Church after the Revolution. There have been four church edifices on our property, the present building opening for worship on September 13, 1863 on the church s 175 th anniversary. In 1892 the parish house was built beginning over 100 years of community outreach. In 1987 Trinity merged congregations with sister church St Paul s to become Trinity St Paul s and today aside from serving its congregants is host of a noted preschool (the church has been a site of education for almost 300 years!), two 12 Step Programs, two other church congregations, and a Brown Bag lunch program that provides thousands of free lunches per year. Trinity St Paul s is a community of Episcopalians and Anglicans coming from many different cultures, countries, orientations, and economic backgrounds, welcoming all who care to worship here and take Communion. We look back gratefully on our rich past and look forward to our bright future. We hope you join us in this celebration!
