O God, make speed to save me. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Alleluia. 1. Ant. 2. D Begotten before the day star, and before the ages, the Lord our Saviour was this day made manifest to the world. THE LORD said unto my Lord, * Sit thou on my right hand, 2. Donec ponam inimícos tuos, * scabéllum pedum tuórum. 3. Virgam virtútis tuæ emíttet Dóminus ex Sion: * domináre in médio inimicórum tuórum. Until I make thine enemies thy footstool. The LORD shall send the rod of thy power out of Sion: * be thou ruler, even in the midst among thine enemies. 2

4. Tecum princípium in die virtútis tuæ in splendóribus sanctórum: * ex útero ante lucíferum génui te. 5. Jurávit Dóminus, et non pœnitébit eum: * Tu es sacérdos in ætérnum secúndum órdinem Melchísedech. 6. Dóminus a dextris tuis, * confrégit in die iræ suæ reges. 7. Judicábit in natiónibus, implébit ruínas: * conquassábit cápita in terra multórum. In the day of thy power shall the people offer themselves willingly with an holy worship: * the dew of thy birth is of the womb of the morning. The LORD swear, and will not repent, * Thou art a Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedech. The Lord upon thy right hand * shall wound even kings in the day of his wrath. He shall judge among the heathen; * he shall fill the places with the dead bodies 8. De torrénte in via bibet: * proptérea exaltábit caput He shall drink of the brook in the way; * therefore shall he lift up his head. 9. Glória Pátri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sáncto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 10. Sícut erat in princípio, et nunc, et sémper, * et in sǽcula saeculórum. Ámen. 1. Ant. 2. 4 I WILL give thanks unto the LORD with my whole heart, * secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation. 2. Magna ópera Dómini: * exquisíta in omnes voluntátes ejus. 3. Conféssio et magnificéntia opus ejus: * et justítia ejus manet in sæculum sæculi. 4. 7. Fidélia ómnia mandáta ejus: confirmáta in sæculum sæculi, * facta in veritáte et æquitáte. 8. Redemptiónem misit pópulo suo: * mandávit in ætérnum testaméntum suum. 9. (fit reverentia) Sanctum, et terríbile nomen ejus: * inítium sapiéntiæ timor Dómini. 10. Intelléctus bonus ómnibus faciéntibus eum: * laudátio ejus manet in sæculum sæculi. 4 The works of the LORD are great, * sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is worthy to be praised and had in honour, * and his righteousness endureth for ever. The merciful and gracious LORD hath so done his marvellous works, * that they ought to be had in remembrance.* He hath given meat unto them that fear him; He shall ever be mindful of his covenant.* He hath shewed his people the power of his works. That he may give them the heritage of the heathen.* The works of his hands are verity and judgment; All his commandments are true. * They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and equity. He sent redemption unto his people; * he hath commanded his covenant for ever; (all bow) Holy and reverend is his Name. *The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all they that do thereafter; * his praise endureth for ever. 11. Glória Pátri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sáncto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 12. Sícut erat in princípio, et nunc, et sémper, * et in sǽcula saeculórum. Ámen. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen.

2. Ant. 1. g 2 Thy light is come, O Jerusalem, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee, and the Gentiles shall walk in thy light, alleluia. 3. Ant. 1. g 2 And opening their treasures the Wise Men offered the Lord gold, frankincense, and myrrh, alleluia. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord; * he hath great delight in his commandments. 5

2. Potens in terra erit semen ejus: * generátio rectórum benedicétur. 3. Glória, et divítiæ in domo ejus: * et justítia ejus manet in sæculum sæculi. 4. 7. Parátum cor ejus speráre in Dómino, confirmátum est cor ejus: * non commovébitur donec despíciat inimícos suos. 8. Dispérsit, dedit paupéribus: justítia ejus manet in sæculum sæculi, * cornu ejus exaltábitur in glória. 9. Peccátor vidébit, et irascétur, déntibus suis fremet et tabéscet: * desidérium peccatórum períbit. His seed shall be mighty upon earth; * the generation of the righteous shall be blessed. Glory and riches shall be in his house; * and his righteousness endureth for ever. Unto the godly there ariseth up light in the darkness; * he is merciful, loving, and righteous. Happy is the man that sheweth mercy, and lendeth; he will guide his words with discretion : * for he shall never be moved. The righteous shall be had in everlasting remembrance : * he shall not be afraid of any evil tidings. His heart is ready, trusting in the Lord, his heart is stablished, * he shall not be afraid until he see his desire upon his enemies. He hath dispersed abroad, and given to the poor, and his righteousness remaineth for ever; * his horn shall be exalted with honour. The ungodly shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and consume away; * the desire of the ungodly shall perish. 10. Glória Pátri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sáncto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 11. Sícut erat in princípio, et nunc, et sémper, * et in sǽcula saeculórum. Ámen. 3. Ant. 1. g 2 As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen. And opening their treasures the Wise Men offered the Lord gold, frankincense, and myrrh, alleluia. 6

4. Ant. 4. E O ye seas and rivers, bless the Lord: O ye fountains, sing a hymn to the Lord, alleluia. Praise the Lord, O ye his servants; * O praise the Name of the Lord. 2. 3. A solis ortu usque ad occásum, * laudábile nomen Dómini. 4. Excélsus super omnes gentes Dóminus, * et super cælos glória ejus. (all bow) Blessed be the Name of the Lord * from this time forth for evermore. From the rising up of the sun unto the going down of the same, * the Lord's Name be praised. The Lord is high above all nations, * and his glory above the heavens. 5. Quis sicut Dóminus, Deus noster, qui in altis hábitat, * et humília réspicit in cælo et in terra? 6. 8. Qui habitáre facit stérilem in domo, * matrem filiórum lætántem. 7 Who is like unto the Lord our God, that hath his dwelling on high, * and beholdeth what is lowly in heaven and in the earth? He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, * and lifteth the needy out of the dung hill. That he may set him with the princes, * even with the princes of his people. He maketh the barren woman to keep house, * and to be a joyful mother of children. 9. Glória Pátri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sáncto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 10. Sícut erat in princípio, et nunc, et sémper, * et in sǽcula saeculórum. Ámen. Antiphon: Maria, ut supra. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen.

5. Ant. 7. c 2 That star glittereth as a flame, and discovereth God the King of kings: the Wise Men saw it and offered their gifts to the great King. When Israel came out of Egypt, * and the house of Jacob from among the strange people, 2. Facta est Judæa sanctificátio ejus, * Israël potéstas ejus. 3. Judah was his sanctuary, * and Israel his dominion. The sea saw that, and fled; * Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams, * and the little hills like young sheep. 5. 6. Montes, exsultástis sicut aríetes, * et colles, sicut agni óvium. 8 What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? * and thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams? * and ye little hills, like young sheep? 7. A fácie Dómini mota est terra, * a fácie Dei Jacob. Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord: * at the presence of the God of Jacob; 8. Qui convértit petram in stagna aquárum, * et rupem in fontes aquárum. 9. Who turned the hard rock into a standing water, * and the flint-stone into a springing well. Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy Name give the praise; * for thy loving mercy, and for thy truth's sake.

Wherefore shall the heathen say, * Where is now their God? As for our God, he is in heaven: * he hath done whatsoever pleased him. Their idols are silver and gold, * even the work of men's hands. They have mouths, and speak not; * eyes have they, and see not. They have ears, and hear not; * noses have they, and smell not. 15. They have hands, and handle not; feet have they, and walk not; * neither speak they through their throat. They that make them are like unto them; * and so are all such as put their trust in them. But thou, house of Israel, trust thou in the LORD; * he is their helper and defender. Ye house of Aaron, put your trust in the LORD; * he is their helper and defender. Ye that fear the LORD, put your trust in the LORD; * he is their helper and defender. 20. Dóminus memor fuit nostri: * et benedíxit nobis: The LORD hath been mindful of us,* and he shall bless us; 21. Benedíxit dómui Israël: * benedíxit dómui Aaron. Even he shall bless the house of Israel, * he shall bless the house of Aaron. 22. He shall bless them that fear the LORD, * both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, * you and your children. Ye are the blessed of the LORD, * who made heaven and earth. All the whole heavens are the LORD'S; * the earth hath he given to the children of men. The dead praise not thee, O LORD, * neither all they that go down into silence. 9

But we will praise the LORD, * from this time forth for evermore. 28. Glória Pátri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sáncto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 29. Sícut erat in princípio, et nunc, et sémper, * et in sǽcula saeculórum. Ámen. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be * world without end. Amen. 5. Ant. 7. c 2 That star glittereth as a flame, and discovereth God the King of kings: the Wise Men saw it and offered their gifts to the great King. Stand Chapter Isaias LX: I S urge, illumináre, Jerúsalem, quia venit lumen tuum,*et glória Dómini súper te órta est. Deo grátias. Arise, be enlightened, O Jerusalem, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. Thanks be to God. 10

Hymn Hymn 3. O CRUEL Herod! why thus fear Thy King and God, who comes below No earthly crown comes He to take, Who heavenly kingdoms doth bestow. The wiser Magi see the star, And follow as it leads before ; By its pure ray they seek the Light, And with their gifts that Light adore. Behold at length the heavenly Lamb Baptized in Jordan's sacred flood ; There consecrating by His touch Water to cleanse us in His blood. But Cana saw her glorious Lord Begin His miracles divine ; When water, reddening at His word, Flow'd forth obedient in wine. 11

To Thee, O Jesu, who Thyself Hast to the Gentile world display'd, Praise, with the Father evermore, And with the Holy Ghost, be paid. Amen. The kings of Tharsis and the islands shall offer presents. The Kings of the Arabians and of Saba shall bring gifts. 12

Magn. Ant. 1. D We keep this day holy in honour of three miracles: this day a star led the Wise Men to the manger; this day water was turned to wine at the marriage feast; this day Christ chose to be baptised by John in the Jordan, for our salvation, alleluia. My soul * doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour. 3. 13 For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden : * for behold, from henceforth * all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me * (Here all make a profound reverence) and holy is his Name.

5. Et misericórdia ejus, a progénie in progénies: * timéntibus eum. 6. Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo: * dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui. And his mercy is on them that fear him * throughout all generations. He hath shewed strength with his arm; * he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 7. Depósuit poténtes de sede: * et exaltávit húmiles. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble and meek. 8. Esuriéntes implévit bonis: * et dívites dimísit inánes. 9. Suscépit Israël púerum suum: * recordátus misericórdiæ suæ. 10. He hath filled the hungry with good things * and the rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy * hath holpen his servant Israel. As he promised to our forefathers, * Abraham and his seed for ever. 11. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost. 12. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sæcula sæculórum. Amen. Magn. Ant. 1. D As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, * world without end.. Amen. We keep this day holy in honour of three miracles: this day a star led the Wise Men to the manger; this day water was turned to wine at the marriage feast; this day Christ chose to be baptised by John in the Jordan, for our salvation, alleluia. 14

Exposition & Benediction Motet: O Mágnum Mystérium O mágnum mystérium et admirábile sacraméntum, ut animália vidérent Dóminum natum jacéntem in præsépio. O beáta Virgo, cujus viscera meruérunt portáre Dóminum Jesum Chrístum. Allelúia! O most awesome mystery and sacrament divine and most wondrous: that animals should look and see the Lord a babe newborn beside them in a manger laid. O how truly blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy to bear and bring forth the Lord Christ Jesus. Alleluia! 16

Prayer for the Pope 1. Let us pray for our Pontiff Benedict. May the Lord protect him, enliven him and bless him on this earth, and not deliver him into the hand of his enemies. Fíat mánus túa súper vírum déxterae túae. Et súper fílium hóminis quem cónfirmasti tíbi. Orémus. D éus ómnium fidélium pástor et réctor, fámulum túum Benedíctum, quem pastórem Ecclésiae túae præésse voluísti, propítius réspice: da éi, quǽsumus, vérbo et exémplo, quíbus prǽest, profícere; ut ad vítam, úna cum grége síbi crédito, pervéniat sempitérnam. Grant him, we beseech Thee, that by his word and example, he may edify those over whom he hath charge, so that together with the flock committed to him, may he attain everlasting life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. 17

Hymn 3. Down in adoration falling, This great Sacrament we hail. Ancient types have long departed, newer rites of grace prevail; faith for all defects supplying, where the feeble sense fail. Glory, let us give, and blessing, To the Father, and the Son; Honour, might, and praise addressing, While eternal ages run; Equal praise to him confessing, Who proceeds from both as One. Amen. Pánem de cǽlo præstitísti éis. Omne delectaméntum in se habéntem. Orémus: D éus, qui nóbis sub Sacraménto mirábili Passiónis tuae memóriam reliquísti; tríbue, quǽsumus, íta nos Córporis et Sánguinis túi sácra mystéria venerári, * ut redemptiónis túae frúctum in nóbis júgiter sentiámus: Qui vivis et régnas in sǽcula saeculórum. Amen. Thou hast given them bread from Heaven. Having in itself all delight. Let us pray: O God, who under a wonderful Sacrament hast left us a memorial of Thy Passion; grant us, we beseech Thee, so to reverence the sacred mysteries of Thy Body and Blood, that we may ever feel within ourselves the fruit of Thy Redemption: Thou who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen. 18
