DAVID The good news of Easter morning is that Jesus is alive! The stone has been rolled away! The empty tomb is a reality that challenges us to start out on a journey looking for Jesus. Jesus invites us to come out of our tombs and stop stumbling around in the dark. We don t need to figure out how we are going to get the stone blocking the entrance of our tomb moved we don t need to figure out how to get around the roadblocks in our lives. God rolls those stones away! Jesus is waiting on the other side of the tomb s entrance: he is the gardener; he is stranger along the road to Emmaus; he is in the faces of each person who has experienced resurrection. This is the season of Easter! The stones in our lives have been rolled away. Come on out and feel the Easter light warm your face. Now go into all of the Galilees of this world and spread the news that Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen, Indeed! In Celebration of Resurrection! Father David Alleluia! The retreat is led by a team of youth and adults from around the diocese. April 19-21, St. Michael and All Angels, Mission Registration will begin at 7 pm on Friday evening, and the event will end at 3 pm on Sunday. Deadline for registration is April 5, The registration forms can be download from the website newbeginnings.html or the office has the forms. Military Welcome Home Reception April 14, 2013 On April 14, 2013 there will be a reception for all the military that have returned from a deployment in the last few months. It will be held in Guild Hall following the 10:00 a.m. service. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception, welcome back the soldiers, and extend your appreciation for their service. 2

3 GARDEN PLANTING WILL BEGIN SOON Julia Adams will be coordinating the planting of the parish garden again this year. She will be planting flowers for the altar along with tomatoes, green beans, peas, corn, squash, and watermelon. The produce from the garden will be given to the Open Door and any parishioner is welcome to take some as well. Julia asks for anyone that would like to help or enjoys gardening to sign up on the calendar in Guild Hall. You can sign up for the times that you would like to contribute to the garden project. She will need help with planting, watering, weeding, etc. Julia has hoses and the seeds, but will need donations of a few pick-up loads of topsoil before planting can begin. She also needs to have donations of organic fertilizer for the vegetable garden which can be purchased at Orscheln s and Menards. In addition, you can donate money to help with the purchase of supplies and soil. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please call Julia at Thank you to everyone! Author: Augustine Congratulations to Tom & Shelley Kite on the birth of their new Grandson, Booker Vinson Kite. He was born March 29, 2013 and weighed 7 lbs., 8 oz., & 20 1/2 inches long. Parents are Kyle and Kelli Kite of Wray, Colorado. Booker has two brothers and a sister.

5 Anti-racism workshop scheduled for May 18 A workshop designed to help people explore issues of racism in society and themselves will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bethany Place Conference Center, 835 SW Polk, in Topeka. The cost to attend is $20 per person, and lunch is included. Dillon s and Hy-Vee Cards Don t forget to purchase your Dillon s or Hy-Vee cards every Sunday. The outreach committee uses the proceeds from the Dillon s card program to reach out to kids who have needs through the homeless program at USD 475. This includes food and medications needed while they are in transition. By action of General Convention, this training is required for everyone in leadership positions throughout the Episcopal Church, all clergy, those employed by the church, and those elected or appointed to any church office. Tocher Lecture on April 25 will feature Miroslav Volf The annual Tocher Lecture is set for Thursday, April 25 and will feature Miroslav Volf, professor of theology at Yale Divinity School and Director of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. His public lecture will take place at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Antioch Rd. in Overland Park. He will discuss the development of a "culture of respect" and the nature of relationships between people who are divided by strong disagreements. He also will participate in a seminar for clergy that afternoon on the same topic. Pre-registration is required for that event. Volf is the author of 16 books and has been involved in international ecumenical and interfaith dialogues. He is a member of the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Church in Croatia. Confirmation classes for adults will begin April 21 at 11:15 due to the Military Welcome Home Reception on April 14. Below are the people that will be leading the instruction and the age and time it will be taking place. Women s Summit set for April in Wichita The first-ever diocesan Women s Summit will take place April at St. James in Wichita with the theme Women and Girls: Made in the Image of God. It is designed for Episcopal women of all ages from high school and older. The cost to attend is $40. The summit, which will run from Friday at 5:30 p.m. through Saturday at 5 p.m., will address three questions through speakers and small group discussions: *What does the Bible say to us about who we are as women? *What does contemporary society and the media say to us about who we are as women? *What do we say to each other about who we are as women?
