Children's Church Children s Church meets in Matthew Room which is through the wooden doors at the end of the south aisle. Please join us during the second hymn of the Sunday 11am Eucharist. Parents of children under four years who wish to come with their child are welcome to join us. Gift Aid envelopes are available in the back of seats for use by UK tax payers. 2 NOTICES A message from Hannah Findley, Administration and Communications Officer: Thank you so much for all the kind messages and best wishes for my new job. I am grateful for all your friendship and encouragement and I promise to keep in touch! The Tuesday Talk will be on Tuesday 13 March at 1.10pm. The theme of the series is Living as a Christian in Uncertain Times. Recordings of previous talks are now online at WALKING THROUGH LENT TOGETHER As we begin Lent, may I encourage you to consider joining in with me in reading a book together as the worshipping cathedral community. The book I have chosen is accessible, thought provoking and challenging as we enter Lent together. It comprises 6 chapters with questions for further reflection and study. It is 'The Things He Did' by Bishop Stephen Cottrell. The prophets in the Old Testament often made their points by symbolic actions which spoke louder that their words. Stephen Cottrell sees Jesus as the climax of this tradition, and he explores Jesus final dramatic actions, exploring their meanings with feeling and insight. (SPCK ). This is a great opportunity to walk the Lenten journey together and I hope you'll consider joining with me? At various points throughout Lent, we'll have opportunities to meet on 2/3 occasions at different times of the day to discuss in larger groups, so keep an eye on the notices sheet for more details. The Monday Music for Lunch concerts continue 1.10pm-1.50pm. Please take a programme for the year. The next concert will be on Monday 20 March by Birmingham Conservatoire Harpists. A varied programme chosen by the students Carrs Lane Fair Trade Shop are bringing a Traidcraft Stall to the Cathedral today as part of Fair Trade Fortnight. There will be many of their food products and some crafts as well.

3 The flower arrangers will be selling homemade Simnel cakes for sale on Mothering Sunday, at 10 each, in order to raise funds for the Cathedral Easter flowers. If you would like to order a cake, please speak to Judith Piggott. The Lay Assistants Rota for Holy Week has now been sent out by and Post. If you have not received this, please contact Ailsa ( ). The Deadline for return is Sunday 12 March. The flower arrangers will be selling Easter goodies after the 11am Eucharist on Mothering Sunday (26th March ). Proceeds will go towards the Cathedral Easter flowers. Please support this sale, the cost of flowers has increased by 20% this year. The flower arrangers will be preparing daffodil posies for Mothering Sunday on Friday 24th March from 10am until 12noon. If you would like to come and assist ( no previous experience required) please let Judith Piggott know. We hope to finish in time to join in the 5-minute midday prayers. On Sunday 19 th March at 3pm The first PAUSE for HOPE service in St Chad s Cathedral. Archbishop Bernard, Bishop Anne,The service will bring together in Prayers and Worship those affected by all forms of cancer, their loved ones and carers. You are invited to join the congregation and it would be great if you would publicise the service. Further details can be obtained from the Pause for Hope website: The Pastoral Care Team consisting of Anne James, Pauline Stammers, Paul Williamson and Ian Williams is authorised by Bishop David to take Home Communion to members of the cathedral community who are housebound. If you are aware of a someone who would like to receive Communion at home, please speak to a member of the team or the Clergy. If you are in contact with someone who is housebound and they are admitted to hospital or a Care Home please inform a team member or the cathedral office by phone on or enquiries@birminhgamcathedral.com, who will inform the clergy. If you are a regular member of the Cathedral congregation and wish to attend and vote at the annual meeting you must be on the Electoral Roll. If you are not on the roll and would like to be, please collect an application form from wardens, vergers or Mary Trumper (electoral roll officer) and return it before 24 March. "On Saturday 25th March, the Cathedral will be hosting one of the eliminator competitions for the National 12-bell Striking Competition. Five teams will compete and the best three will go on to the finals at Southwark Cathedral in June. Come and hear some of the country's finest bell ringers, between and 2.30pm."

4 Between the 25 May and 4 June, we as a cathedral community are being called to prayer as part of Thy Kingdom Come, and to use our building and space around us to gather other Christians to pray for others to come to know Jesus Christ. We will be listing times of prayer here in the cathedral and other ways you can be involved soon. In the meantime, please begin praying for the initiative, have a look at The Old Joint Stock Theatre are staging a second instalment of their A Passion for Birmingham series called The Testament of Mary. WHOLENESS & HEALING MINISTRY These services offer the opportunity for individual prayer and anointing, including laying on of hands, and prayer for healing of people and situations. 5 This week we bid a fond farewell to Hannah Findley as she leaves the Cathedral team to take up her dream job as a meteorologist. In the 18 months that Hannah has been part of the team, each one of us have welcomed her wisdom and spirit, and she has been a fine colleague to work alongside. I know many of the Cathedral volunteers and congregation members have enjoyed communicating with Hannah. Hannah has worked over and above the role, committing herself to all aspects of Cathedral life, and her faithful and graceful work has been a real blessing. The Cathedral team were happy to present Hannah with the gift of a large print. The print features a small portion of one of our Burne Jones windows depicting a rainbow. We are sure Hannah s future will be bright, and we wish her every success for the future.
